I started playing this one today. Curious to get other's thoughts on it. I dunno why, the graphics aren't hot, the gameplay is nothing special, on the whole it seems like a ho hum platformer but it has some neat concepts (select any level to start out with, a level up system with your weapons -- range and damage). It's one of those weird average games you can't help but keep playing just to see if it gets any better.

If anyone has played it extensively, I would particularly like to get your thoughts on this game. I know it has a few fans.

Basically the games sucks, and the only reason to own it is just to collect. Now the cartoon is classic. Another show to game for the Snes that sucks is Mighty Max. Awsome show, horrid game.

Oh man don't remind me of Mighty Max the video game! Now the cartoon -- NOW THAT WAS THE SHIT. I loved it then and I love it to this day. Just a well written 40-episode run with a very creative "series ending" (I won't spoil it... hopefully it gets an official DVD release sometime in the future)

The game itself, I played it on the PC about 7 years back, and good LORD was it bad. IIRC, small characters, slippery sloppy controls and the worse screen jerking jumps I've ever seen in a 'platformer.'

Avoid avoid avoid.

SWAT Kats on the other hand, it's a decent 5.5 or 6/10 game IMO. It's worth it for $5 or less -- hell I never recall watching the show, so I'm sure I'd like it even more had I been a fan of the show. Game has its moments.

I remember renting this game when rental stores were carrying SNES games. I was about 12, so it has been awhile. I do remember it being more challenging than fun, and I continued playing just to prove I could beat it.

I did beat it, but all I really remember is flying your jet into the mouth of a big monster.

Well I have the whole series on DVD... you can get it on ebay off this seller. I'm still looking for SWAT KATS though.

well well well....

I'll be DAMNED!

SWAT Kats has grown on me like a bad zit. I spent 75 minutes with it tonight that felt like half an hour. I started playing at 1:15 AM "just to fool around" on World 1. Mind you, in my previous play I never got to the boss.

So I'm playing and playing. I lose to the mid-boss with the cool mode 7 effects, but I keep playing and playing... quietly enjoying myself. Next thing I know, I am facing the 1st boss and I make quick work of him.

Onto level 2... enjoyed this circus world, and got Game Over at the boss. But with password in hand, I'm ready to tackle him tomorrow...

It was 2:30 AM when I turned the game off.

I was like @_@ where did the time effin' go?!

And I could hardly believe it, but this "ho hum average" platformer became a solid, good one right before my eyes. I'm addicted now -- I can't help it... I must beat this game. I dunno what it is about it. Most games I just play for a bit and toss it off to the side for "some day" -- this one I disliked or at least was indifferent towards on 1st play, but instead of casting it away -- something funny about it hooked onto me.

And I never watched the cartoon!

I recommend this game. Esp. for fans -- I can only imagine you'll get a better kick out of it than me -- and I'm really enjoying it right now! The graphics get better, the gameplay is solid, the music ain't bad... and the game has an "old school 8-bit Nintendo" feel to it; which to me isn't a bad thing at all!

It just took me back to my days as a rascal youth in 1990 playing the latest NES platformer my dad rented at the local mom n pop shop in town. 8-)

I picked this game up a few months ago, but I didn't give it much playtime. Hmm, I guess I'll give it another shot.

As for the cartoon itself, I remember watching it during college and thinking it was pretty slick. I recently downloaded the entire series, and though it's not as great as I remembered (much like the original TMNT), it's still enjoyable.

I used to watch the cartoon and enjoyed it. I seriously doubt I'd still like the show these days. Probably one of those things that's better left not revisited. You know how lots of shows you watched as kids leave fond memories, but if you watch them again now, you realize that they sucked all along and you just had shallow taste back then. I have a feeling this might've been one of those shows.

Anyway, I played the game. I didn't like it. The levels and graphics felt very generic and boring. Probably belonged on the NES if you ask me. Even though the levelling up thing was different from most platformers, it just didn't click with me at all.

I've heard some people really like it though and call it very underrated.

The mode7 monster stages... oy. Club Nintendo (Mexico) warned its readers in its Swat Kats review to have carpet cleaner handy in case you puked. LOL

The game's allright, much better than the stuff companies like THQ was selling.

I freakin' loved the show. I remember playing the game a long time ago, but I don't remember if it was any good. I just remember liking it because I loved the show.

Mmmm, I hear that. Some things ARE better left in the past.

Back to the video game though -- I just beat it tonight.

Having played through it to the end, this is a SOLID action game IMO. The game said my total play time was 229 minutes 50 seconds. Almost 4 hours. It could have benefitted by being longer and more challenging -- with a password system the game is pretty easy, and any intermediate gamer could finish it within a couple days.

Worlds 2 and 3 IMO were the best in terms of design and fun. W4 and W5 were somewhat disappointing but still decent. The final boss is DARK KAT.

Overall, I think this is a highly underrated overlooked game. I give it a solid 8/10. I was playing it last night and before I knew it, 2 hours had passed and my clock read 3:40 AM

I spent 50 minutes tonight beating the final level. World 5 is definitely the hardest, and the boss is a 2 former... it taxed me to a fair amount, but I beat it.

Anyone else beat this game? You can't enjoy this game as a ROM and keyboard, no way. Put that controller in your hands... game's pretty sweet. It's been a long time since I actually played through a game and beat it without cheating or reading any FAQs. Tell you what -- it was a friggin' awesome experience.

I found myself thinking "I wish it didn't end so quickly."

A sign of a good movie, book... or video game. ;)

Yeah, a lot of stuff is that ways for me...like Power Rangers (I used to watch it every day. It's still fun to watch to see how cheezy it was), Bomberman Hero (I used to love that game until last year, when I realized how crappy it was!), Super Mario Sunshine (Loved it when I was a Nintendo Fanboy, now I dispise it, wondering where Myamoto's sence of fun went), Cartoon Orbit (Crappy Digital Trading Card thing over at Cartoon Network. I lost interest after a year), etc.

The only things that I liked when I was younger and still enjoy are Diddy Kong Racing (I still consider it to be the Best N64 Game Ever), Zelda: Ocarina of Time (The 2nd gest N64 game), and Beast Wars: Transformers (I still watch it on occasions).

Anyway, on the topic of SWAT Kats...I used to watch the series in 2001, back when Cartoon Network played it during weekdays. I liked it, but hey stopped playing it. In Summer last year, Boomerang started playing it, but I could never catch it while it was on (I was eather out doing running or I was watching X-Play). Then I though Cartoon Network started playing it again, only to discover that the info was wrond and they where playing Ozzy and Drix! DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH- (Hits Head with a Game Boy Pocket) How can the idiots at TV Guide (They do the digital guide for my Satalite) get SWAT Kats mixed up with a cartoon based on Osmosus Joans (Or however you spell that)?
