View Full Version : Dreamcast memory unit problems. HELP!

Every time I turn off my Dreamcast with the Visual Memory Unit still inserted into the controller, the VMU beeps loudly for a few seconds, and then asks me to enter the Time & Date again! It's not the batteries (I think), because I only replaced them about a month ago, and it'll still run anyway, so they're not flat. This happens every single time without fail!

Currently, the only way to avoid this is to take out the VMU and then turn off the Dreamcast - which is unbeliveably annoying! >:(

Can anyone help?!

the VMU is a battery hog. Even with brand spankin' new batteries, they last for a few weeks before it goes. Unless you play the mini game on the go, you can take the batteries out and forget about it. They're not needed to save game data, only to keep time and use the LCD display out of the controller.

Thanks for your help! But how come my VMU still runs on it's own?

And is there anyway to turn off that beep!?!?! >:(

VMU still runs just to preserve the clock setting when the DC's not powered on or when the VMU's out of the controller. It's a bad design somewhere actually as many other hand held devices (oh say for example Tomagachi sp?) can last for months and even years while retaining the time.

To permantly disable the beeps, just open the VMU and snip the 2 wires going to the piezo unit. (round gold-ish disc with black and red wires) There's no other way to turn it off.

Yeah, I had a VMU suck it's batteries down in less than 2 months. I'd read somewhere that they actually last longer if you take the VMU out of the controller when you're done playing. Is there any truth to that?
