I bought a loose NES game from a seller and asked for insurance and signature-required delivery confirmation to be put on the package. the seller is really co-operative and seems like a great guy. however, he tells me that when he tried to ship it the post office said that they don't offer options like insurance and delivery confirm. on items that are under 1 lb.
the seller has offered to bulk up the package to 1 lb. and ship it with my requested options. he's even offered to absorb this extra cost! i have no reason to doubt that this seller's intentions are pure gold, and that's why i don't want him to have to absorb the extra cost of shipping.
surely you guys all ship NES games all the time. isn't there a way to put insurance on an NES game without weighing down the package and incurring a higher shipping rate?
let me know because the seller is waiting to ship this out, and i'm (of course) getting anxious to recieve it.
p.s. - is this the best forum to get help on this issue? if there's a forum that could provide better advice on this could a mod move this thread there?
thanks!

They do offer insurance and delivery confirmation, providing he ships the items priority mail. If you ship a lesser class (ie: First) they have restrictions on delivery confirmation and insurance.

No. The ONLY restriction for delivery confirmation is that the package has to be thicker than 1/4" at it's widest part. And it has to be inside the US (APO AE do not count as inside the US)
As far as I know, ANYTHING can be insured, even a letter, although I could be wrong about that. I'm positive on the DC though, I've shipped plenty of single carts with DC on them.

Ahh...this explains why. I usually use the small priority box they provide, which is obviously thicker and this is why I never have a problem.

I just shipped an Xbox game in an oversized envelope First Class Mail with delivery confirmation and it offered me the option of insurance. This was online via Paypal however.

... it does. *punches you* :P
You can have insurance on envelopes and small parcels, but only if they're sent via Parcel Post or Airmail Letter Post. You can't have delivery confirmation -unless- he ships it via Express Mail (which is horribly expensive).
Edit:
And you -can- have Delivery Confirmation on small envelopes (First Class USPS Mail). I sent a letter a while back, and I added delivery confirmation. They had no problem with it.

The canada thing may make a difference. Also, there has to be enough room on the face of the envelope/box for a delivery confirmation slip to fit on the face of the box for 1st class mail (doesn't appy to priority mail, the delivery confirmation slip can go on any side of the box). If you ship a nes cart in a small bubble envelope and write really big, you may have to go priority to get delivery confermation...

thanks for the help. this is still a bit confusing though. as a recap- what are the options this shipper and i have if i want to be able to trust that he sent it, we want to be able to get our money back if it's lost, and he wants the security of knowing i recieved it (so i can't cheat him and say i never got it)?

Express Mail. As far as I know, it's the only USPS international shipping method that allows tracking and delivery confirmation.

There's also Registered Air Mail. It can be used in transit between basically any two countries, typically has a tracking number, and requires a signature upon delivery. It's not the most common way of mailing items, so you might need to find a clerk who knows their stuff (the clerks at my local post office give me a strange look when I use Global Priority, let alone Registered Mail).

It's actually 3/4" . I have this problem ALL the time when I forget to add newspaper to a DVD case and try to ship it first class. :/
