View Full Version : EA forced to get "creative"? <GASP>

In a recent Business Week article, EA outlines its plan to shift from 30% - 50% new creative titles. This is a result of getting soaked for sports and film licenses and such.

They are enlisting help from Steven Spielberg and others in an attempt to create at least one new property per year.
Current properties will benefit as well as programmers will be encouraged to innovate with features and level design.

Exciting as this is, it is sad when you realize that for these many years innovation has been stifled at this company. Here is to a brighter next gen future as a powerhouse in the industry is forced to undergo some major changes...

Good to hear. I doubt my opinion of them will ever change, but this is still good news.

But I really need to get something off my chest. The word innovative has become the most hackneyed, cliché video game term since “revolutionary.”

Props to G4 for creating yet another stupid trend in video game journalism.

Last time I liked EA games was back in the 80's when they only distributed the games someone else created. This is a good thing for sure and it is also good to see that the market isn't buying just any old crappy game these days.

i think their early 90's work on the genesis was also quite good

There were a few good EA released [but most definetly not published] titles on the PS too, such as Defcon 5, or Overblood.

But EA and creativity just don't mix.

What happened to the days of "Jungle Strike", "Road Rash" and "Haunting: Starring Polterguy"?

I can remember when they released stuff that nobody else would (and it was quirky and fun!)

Why has there never been a good update of "Road Rash"?

Well, they also just announced Battlefield 2142(ohhhh yes), so this is a good week for EA.

All this really means is they're gonna bring back the Mutant League series. LOL

So let me get straight... EA, who everyone bitches about because they make too many sequels of their old games, announces they are going to try and be more original...and people are hoping they make sequels of their other old games.

Ok, just wanted to make sure I was clear on everything.

Let's just call most of them "yearly patches". Capcom really has cornered the market as far as cranking out too many sequels (and updates).

And i want a good update of Road Rash (well RR2 actually), a *single* game from the time when they did create unique games.

Now if i was like Man we need a sequel to "The Immortal, a new Strike game, Skitchin', a new Polterguy game, General Chaos, another Mutant League game...so on then yes you could bitch at me.

Some things are just so broken that they can never be fixed.

I, for one, believe that EA is one of those things.

Creative does not equal good. I enjoy EA's games. Hell, they might not be innovative, but they are [almost always] solidly produced, good fun, and a decent value for the money. Some of the stuff is things they did not develop internally, i.e. Burnout 3/Revenge, but nonetheless, I think people are way too hard on EA. They make good games. Some of their business practices/morals may be a little bit suspect, but their games aren't anywhere near as bad as anyone here seems to think they are.

I guess you haven't tried any of their DS games. LOL

100% stinkers.

EA's games are just so completely devoid of charm and character that I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything buy not buying them.

Their games are competent, but everything they do someone else does in a more interesting or original way.

We already got a new Haunting/Polterguy game. It's called Ghost Master. But strangely enough, it wasn't made by EA.

As for a new Road Rash game, we're getting that too. It's called Jacked. But strangely enough, it isn't being made by EA either.

Sucks for EA.

Looks like they dropped the ball then.

Is "Jacked" coming to XBOX?
