After reading online that God of War was going to be released as a Greatest Hits, I called the local EB Games and asked them how much it was.
"$54.99", the employee said.
"Oh. I heard it's supposed to be a Greatest Hits", I said.
"Oh Lord no! We haven't heard anything about that, and we're the first to know", the employee said.
I went to Toys R Us and sure enough, God of War was reduced and had a red "Greatest Hits" sticker covering the normal top of the ps2 case.
I wonder if EB Games knew it was to be reduced, but just didn't bother, hoping to sell a few more at the higher price?
Has anyone else had EB sell at a higher price just after a game's been reduced to a Greatest Hits?

stores get reimbursed for on hand stock when there is a price drop.

Yeah there'd be no reason to sell it for the original MSRP after it dropped.
The employees there are simply retarded, we got Greatest Hits God of War in over a week ago.

We haven't had a good EB bashing in a long time. I've experienced or heard about some doozies back in the day. The last few EB's I've been in have been staffed by surprisingly helpful folks.
Here's an old one on a kind of related subject... anyone remember that OLD thread (I'm going back a good two years) to that post from the 13 year old who wanted judgements on his website? He claimed that he had gone into an EB and the clerk was playing gay porn on the overhead TV's. It was ridiculous and somewhat hateful but funny in a demented sort of way.
I don't think many members were impressed with his site.

I have this thing against buying stuff at EB, new or used.
In NZ, all the EBs I've ever been too have shockingly priced titles. I've seen used games that were being sold at prices higher than what you can find new at other stores. And of course the general used section is a total ripoff, consider most don't come with their right case or manual.

I noticed your in Canada as well. I chequed EB for this game a couple days ago but I remember it wasn't reduced to "GH" price yet but I didn't bother to get them to scan it or anything. I took my $$$ to Zellers where it was at the reduced price already. ;) ;)

How IS the gaming scene in New Zealand, anyway? I have never really heard about it. What's big there? Are you guys PAL or NTSC? (showing my ignorance here) Is EB the best place for games (doesn't sound like it) or is there something better? Are the Lord of the Rings games the biggest-selling games EVER? (Some New Zealand humor there.)
I started hitting all the EB's in my area for cheap PSone and Dreamcast titles to sell on ebay. Did surprisingly well until the supply dried up. Seems that EB's in NZ are priced higher than those in the Southern United States.

Heh, what reatards. That game got reprinted and we received about 40 weeks ago. They're obviously not the first ones to know.

Obviously you were capable of seeing how sarcastic they were, c0ldb33r, so I won't ask you if they were being sarcastic with you. Obviously.

It was MSRP $49.99 since it's launch until it became a GH. It's been $19.99 since then in the computers, and a little before the official GH sleeve variants were in stores.
Then again, maybe this is a Canada EB thing.

Here you go Fish. If you want to see what the collecting scene is in NZ, you can take a look at another local forum I go to.

As for shopping, I'm too non modern to buy new, but besides EB, there's only 1 other chain of stores that specialises in gaming.
www.gamesman.co.nz
I just buy online.
www.trademe.co.nz
And there's some insight about game collecting down in the land of NZ, this could've made an interesting topic by itself I just realised.

The first thing I would have done after purchasing it from Toys R Us would be to make a second trip to EB to show them my new purchase that supposingly didn't exist.

EB Canada is always way behind on everything.
Even if you preorder something, you won't get it until a week after walmart has it, and it'll cost you more anyway.
They also frequently price their used games higher than their new games, and the local management apparently can't fix it.
The only things they're good for are their loss-leading sales and clearance prices.
It's a shame really, because most of the eb's in my area have really good staff.
I got God Of War for 29.99 a few months ago at Target. I don't see what the big deal is, it wasn't that great of a game to be 49.99 to begin with.

EB/Gamestop isnt bad here. games are pretty much the same prices everywhere, with the occasional 5 dollars price difference for a select few games, mostly gba.
and older current gen used games are pretty dirt cheap in EB/Gamestop, unofortunately they stopped carrying older than this gen's games in most stores, but i never remember seeing a used pre-current gen game go for more than 35 bucks. and those were rare titles such as intelligent cube and ddr.
