Are there any games that you really want to like, but just don't?
For me it's Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA.
I was never into the Phantasy Star games on SMS and Genesis, so I thought this would be a cheap way to get acquainted with the series.
I've tried my best to get into each PS game on the cart. I've restarted each of them a number of times, but just can't do it.
I'm still keeping it in my collection, and I'll probably try each of them a couple of more times. Hopefully I'll like them soon :)

Zelda Wind Waker. I love the graphics but I just can't motivate myself to play through it. I was like this with Majoras Mask as well. :embarrassed: Too bad because I really liked Ocarina of time and Link to the Past.

Most puzzle base games I just can't get into. There are just that rare few that I enjoy.
For some reason I'm not that excited about Kingdom Hearts 2. The first one I loved and was addicted too, but now it just seems like meh to me. Maybe when I get my hands on it I'll change my mind.

Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks: a game that sounded like heaven in the previews I read, but turned out to be a tedious button-masher with a perspective that often made it hard to see what's going on.
Shadow of the Colossus: a beautiful and brilliant game that's just way too rough around the edges. for my tastes.

Perfect Dark Zero. Oh my god. Welcome to 2000.
Banjo Tooie. The first one is fantastic, this one took its cues from DK64 and thus shot itself in the foot with a 12 gauge.
Deus Ex Invisible War. The first one is my numero uno favorite game of all time, but this one just had waaaaay too much cut -- stuff that made its prequel fantastic -- and was dumbed down to the point of being a generic FPS.

The biggest ones I can think of off the top of my head are the Metal Gear series, and any Zelda game after The Adventure of Link on NES.

I knew there had to be more people out there.
Liking Elder Scrolls would take a lot of the flack off of me too.

Wow, same goes for me. Truer words have never been spoken such as those. I also never could get into Halo. I used to like the early FPS' like Wolfenstein and Doom, but Halo is just too overhyped for me. Same goes for Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine (though I love every other Mario game).

Baten Kaitos. I tried, several times, to get into it. The world itself looks beautiful and fun to explore, but the battle system bites, the voice-overs are horrible (not to mention done in a bathroom... *echo echo*), and the story just didn't compel me to continue.
Killer 7. I WANTED to like it. Very badly. But I just couldn't. The gimp-like character just made me shudder every time I had to listen to that distorted, stupid voice of his. I wanted to turn off the system as soon as I saw him. Usually I'd mute the game and play. After about half-way through, I just couldn't take it anymore, and shelved it for good. I may try and give it another go in the future, but not likely.
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. I loved Sands of Time. The gameplay is essentially there... but the mind-numbing "extreme" makeover ruined the feel for me. The puzzles didn't feel as fresh or intriguing. The addition of those stupid chase sequences was just too much. Couldn't do it. I never bothered to even look at the third installment.
Finally, there's KOTOR. It sounded great. First games I bought when I picked up an Xbox were Halos 1 & 2, and KOTOR. Maybe I just don't like RPGs? Anyways, it bored me to tears. I just felt slow and uninteresting. I tried another Bioware title in Jade Empire, and similarly didn't like it. Ehh. Maybe they just aren't my type of game.

But hey, they collect well. :D

The Pikmin Series: I've never really liked RTS's in general, but I really wanted to like this game. I've been able to get into it for hours at a time, but then after that I won't play it for months.
Any Final Fantasy, or really RPGs in general: I don't know why I can't play rpgs, but any rpg I'll play for a bit and then get bored with it after a while. So I'll end up playing for 15 minutes a day and then just stop playing possibly forever.
Missile Command: Yes its a classic, yes its been played by large amounts of people who love it. That doesn't change the fact that the game is just boring. Can't really explain it, just have no interest at all.

ico, colossus.
they look good , and i know that technically they are good, but god help me i fucking hate them. id rather be picking up shard of glass wiht my anus than play them =[
Project Justice great looking game seems to have a good combat system but damn I hate getting cheaply raped by the ai.
Valkerie Profile Its been sold now so I wont have a chance again. i tried to like it 2-3 times.
Final Fantasy tactics.

Skateboarding games and soccer games, because even if the game is well done, I can't get past the fact that I see no point in either affair, particularly when one involves a culture I could care less about, and the other lost its priviledges as a true sport when the wimps decided the world championship with penalty kicks.
Pat LaFontaine never needed penalty shots.

Xenosaga - I tried really hard to like this game, but I felt like I was watching a really bad japanese cartoon the whole time. The combat was fun when it was there, but there just was not enough of it. Once I met "Little Master", I had enough and wiped the save game off my memory card. Did this series ever even tie into Xenogears at all?
Halo - The combat is fun, I will give it that. I just can't stand those damn repetitive levels. I keep trying though, and will eventually pick up Halo 2. The first person that calls me a "fag" for this can eat a brick.
Phantasy Star 2 - I picked this up at a Gamecrazy a year ago, complete with the manual. I normally have no problem playing older games, but this one just doesn't grab me at all.
Metal Gear Soild - Twin Snakes
Incredible artwork, and funky game design. The camera angles and controls drives me crazy. Oh yeah and the vocal sample when you die. Snake?, Snake?.... Sssnnnnaaaakkkeeeeeee! - I persist though
Monkey Ball - You think a game with monkeys & balls would be fun. Just not my thing

Metroid Prime, Halo, any post-SNES Zelda title, any post-N64 Mario Kart, and any PSX/PS2-era Mega Man games (sans compilations).
I've tried them all, wanted to enjoy them, but just couldn't. Can't tell you why, either.

Most Koei strategy games (Except Aerobiz)

can't be alot of replay value with that though? :P

There is a certain game that I had such ridiculously high hopes for, and such extreme expectations that I really tried to force myself to like it for quite a long time before finally realizing that the game just wasn't a good game. It was October 2000 at the Playstation 2 launch. The first Madden game for the playstation 2.
Man, I had such high hopes for that game, and I had came from playing NFL2K and NFL2K1 and then I got my Playstation 2, and was hoping beyond hope that Madden would be amazing. And there were certain parts of the game that were kinda amazing, but ultimately the gameplay was much worse than NFL2K1. In fact, NFL2K1 was leaps and bounds better in the gameplay department. I'd go so far as to say that NFL2K1 ranks among possibly the 5 best Football games of all time. But like a dumbass, I was busy forcing myself to like Madden. For months and months, I tried to make that game the dream it should have been. But it just didn't work.

I really wanted Viewtiful Joe 2 to be awesome.
When I played it, it reminded me a bit of Sonic Adventure 2, in that it was awful. I sold it a week later.

Well, the first one isn't a videogame, but a PC game.
Sim Coaster.
Darn thing just quits when i play it, so i never get to save it.
Second, GTA Vice City.
Sure, it's a great game to many people (And the best in the series to many people) But it's simply boring to me.
Why?
I think it is because i played San Andreas before i played Vice City.

Only the original SNES Final Fantasies were really any good, and FFVII only has a good musical score.

Frogger on the DS. I'm wanting to like the game, but I'm stuck at the first boss battle, which is unforgivably hard. The main levels are really good, but the game's structure is so haphazard, that I'm just frustrated. Watch bad cartoon, play a level or two, bump into a couple wierd characters, something happens (or doesn't), watch another bad cartoon, then back to the actual game, without much idea of where I am or where I'm going.
Ugh. This could be the next Chip's Challenge, if it actually tried. What a mess.

Holy crap do I ever agree. I want to like Ico SOOO BADDDDD. I was so excited when I bought it. The graphics, sound, atmosphere, they're all so cool. And I love how immersive the game is. You actually feel like youre in another world. I haven't felt that way since playing "Out of this World". But, alas, I don't like it :( I find it frustrating. Commanding the girl, fighting those stupid shadows, and the bad camera, I just can't get into it. :(
Another one I forgot about is Castlevania for the DS. I know it's an awesome game, but I just can't get into it. The graphics and music are all quite good (although not as good as reviews say it is). I think it's because I got like 4-5 DS games at or around christmas, and Castlevania was on the bottom of the list, and I just haven't gotten into it since.
Fable for the Xbox was another one I didn't get into. I played the first mission and gave up.
Panzer Dragoon Orta? Same. I actually think I would like this if I actually played it, but I just don't. I LOVED the Saturn versions.
That's all I can think of now, but I could probably add more if I took the time to think about it.

For me it started with Halo and continued through Halo 2, I really wanted to like them and I played all through the first but I just hate how you have to go back through the same levels over again. But I still have hope that I'll like 3

Tales of Symphonia for Gamecube and Deus Ex: Invisible War. I've started and quite both games about a dozen times each. Good God, do I want to like Deus Ex. So badly. But I don't.
Baten Kaitos, I tried playing the game on 3 seperate occasions, all of which resulted in my being frustrated over the card system and bored all at the same time. Needless to say I turned it off within minutes.
Batillion Wars - I seem to be really bad at the game, so I quit playing after a few missions. I'll probably give it another go someday, but I really don't see my self loving it.
Katamari Damacy - I just found the entire game to be a frustraiting mess with really catchy music.

legend of zelda - man I have forced my self to get half way through this game
i never liked it from the first time i saw it in the 80s - never understood how it spawned such a glorious series
im a gamer that cant get into a series unless i do it in order – I’ve played all the others (just a little bit ) and i really want to play them -- but the original nes version of zelda is holding me back -- at least im in the middle -- i hope my save still works !!!
also metroid on the nes - never saw what the hype was all about - i pop it in every now and then and end up putting it away
now for a current gen game
ROBOCOP on the xbox -- i really want to like this game - its ok for a game i paid 7$ for but holy Fin damn does it have a problem. I wish they had just a little bit more quality control with this one. Progressing in the higher levels is achieved by luck.
Jak and dexter on the PS2 - i was disapointed with how much like crash bandicoot it was and couldn't get into it (i like crash - i was just expecting something different )

Yeah, I do regret that some games just aren't as good as they should have been. From my recent postings, you'd notice that Operation Logic Bomb falls into this category. Others as well.
Can't really get into some of Nintendo's early NES games - Zelda to a degree, but certainly the original Metroid. Still great, groundbreaking games, but I'm kinda "eh" about the whole affair. They get love because of how early and inventive they were, but the actual execution isn't quite up to the standards of later games.

Kingdom Hearts!
Seems like it's got a real cool story and all, but the gameplay is terrible! Horrible camera, atrocious button-mashing combat system, terrible lock-on, just bad controls overall.

Wow some of my favorite games have been listed.
While I never have played Kingdom Hearts, I watched my roomates play it a bit, and there were things in there that made me decide right away that the game wasn't for me. Like having to watch cutscenes over again unable to skip them when continuing, and the camera angles. And the main character.
Really, I'm just done with RPGs (excluding SRPGs). I don't have the patience for them anymore, and in retrospect I always gave the plot/storyline much more credit than they ever deserved.
I really tried to get into Castlevania Circle of the Moon a few times, but I think I played SOTN too many damn times to play a such a similar game again. I've yet to try the other GBA Castlevania because of this.
Resident Evil series. Excluding RE4, which I just finished, I have tried to get into this series (at least 3 different times) and just can't. I'm going for the fourth try here soon, I think I'm gonna play the first one re-make for GC. I just liked RE4 so much, the first one just HAS to be worth playing...right?
Bonk's Adventure. Can't say anything I dislike about this game, it just didn't grab me.
R-Type series. (Well, the two SNES titles at least)
Can we list games we've beaten?
ICO, I felt really meh about it. Pretty game, easy ass puzzles (which defeats the purpose of the game) and the "fights" consist of the most uninspired, repetitive, and bland action sequences ever to grace a game console (IMO). The pacing is really bad also.
Metroid Prime. I thought the transition to 3D was done very well. The presentation was there, and the game had enough innovation to keep me occupied for a whole 1 and 3/4 playthroughs. That said, I just don't find this game any fun. (I had such high hopes for it that I tried to play it again). And if you think I'm jaded from my SOTN comment earlier, I loved Metriod Zero, and I played that after Prime.

I too loved Ocarina and Link to the Past, but Windwaker was fun for maybe the first two islands and then I got bored of it. I tried really hard to give it a fair shot, but it just didn't suck me in like some other games did.
Metroid as a series is pretty much the same story. Maybe I'm just bitter because I never beat the original as a kid. :P

The Silent Hill games apply here for me. I really love the music and atmosphere, and the storylines are wonderfully creepy, but the puzzles just don't work with me, and the gameplay tends to drag. I'm loking forward to the movie, because if it's done well, I'll actually get to see then ending of a Silent Hill. ;)

I agree 100%. The gameplay and camera suck.
Knights of the Old Republic for Xbox is another highly touted game that just was unbelievably awful. I love RPG's, I love Star Wars, but this combination was as boring as a game can get. Terrible.
