View Full Version : I was completely and totally wrong about something!

Well, I'm not too proud not to admit it when I'm totally and completely wrong about something. (it happens much more than I'd care to admit) Quite some time ago, last year, I made a prediction that in March 2006, you would not be able to walk into a Wal-Mart or a Best Buy or a Target and buy a Xbox 1. I know it sounds crazy now, but I actually thought that Microsoft would cease manufacturing Xbox 1 systems due to the fact that they still loose a pretty tidy sum on each unit sold. I thought they would have enough systems to cover the 2005 holiday, but then after that, the systems would just stop coming, and Microsoft would announce that they simply can't continue to manufacture it.

A lot of predictions have been made regarding the console wars; a lot of wrong predictions, at that. That's not such a big deal, though I don't see why you'd think that regular xBox units would suddenly disappear enmasse.

Yeah, i remember that post. But remember, everyone makes mistakes.
And, my dad is making a prediction, too.
It's that the xbox 360 will be #1 this coming generation of games.
If it turns out wrong, it'll be wrong. But if it's right, it'll be right.

Ironically, it's late March and you still can't go into your average store and get a Xbox 360.

Don't worry about it - you're not the only one making bad predictions.
A few years ago (many, actually) a friend and I were talking about the playstation vs. saturn and I told him that the real war will be between the Saturn and the N64 (then called the ultra 64).
I remember saying, "Sony doesn't know anything about gaming, they won't last a year"
Heh, it's funny how things work out.

Well one thing is for sure.. because of the 360, releases of new Xbox titles are drying up.
We're already seeing it.. There sure isn't a flood of new xbox games as there used to be. Soon it will just be a trickle of various companies remaining projects and titles.... and then die out.

It's funny because something like that wouldn't be obvious at all to the layman...but analysts predicted that there would be shortages (Blackfriars in particular).
Every time I see a prediction based off no evidence and which I think is wrong, I think "man I should remember that so I can ridicule them when it doesn't come out that way." Meanspirited indeed. Can you blame me for being a little bit irritated when people talk about things they shouldn't? (And yeah, that works both ways - I say lots of things I immediately regret.) I dunno, we should stick to discussing things we know about. "Common sense" discussions of the economics of gaming are a waste of time, but I appreciate it when people take the time to find sources.

I note that after the PS2's launch, the quality of new PS1 titles just dropped lower and lower. As in things just totally budget.
The US didn't get these, but PAL got a whole raft full of these terrible cheapo games after 2001 or 2000.

Apparently small time developers saw their chance to move into a space suddenly vacated by the big developers. Not quite sure why that was the case in Europe only, though perhaps it has something to do with distributor relationships being...looser?

Yes, although you can find them if you look. I have seen 4 cores in the past 2 and 1/2 months, not counting demo units.

Compare that with the stack of 8+ Xboxes I see on Best Buy's floor every I go there.

Weird.
I've seen 360's in nearby stores (except EB lol) since shortly after xmas.
Even before xmas, there were plenty of core systems to go around.
I guess the distribution is pretty uneven.
Anyway, as to the original post, I thought the same thing, mostly because rumors to that effect had been floating around since early 2005.

I made a prediction that I would have sex every day once I got married. Here I am married for 2.5 years, and had way more before I was married.
Remember when I said the Revolution was going to be the #1 selling console? Damn, what a messed up prediction. Sony beat Nintendo again.

This post would make for an excellent BLOG ENTRY. Really, you should look into that.
It's great for those 'swimming in lake me' posts or whatever you call them.

Seriously. How many times does someone have to say this?

No kidding. The first couple of months of a relationship = lots of sex.
One year later = twice a week if I'm lucky.
I think we still have shortages here in Atlanta
EDIT- I meant shortages of 360's, not sex. Some of us are having shortages in sex whilst others are getting plenty.

OK, your shops have more than my local ones do. But what type? Core? Premium? Original Xbox?

Then there was a second prediction you made that the lessening of relations would apply to other people, which turned out not to apply as generally either :P

I have heard from multiple reps that MS here in Aus
have nearly 100,000 units left in stock, maybe more,
In all honesty Xbox has hit a massive brick wall in terms of
sales on australia over the last 1 to 2 months, this could result
in a massive price cut to shift remaining stock.
I am unsure how true this is but it does come a MS rep, he
also stated that it is pretty much the case world over so maybe
even you yanks may see a big cut to shift what they have left.\?
