I got these from Funcoland a long time ago. I hung the Nintendo one, but the others sat aside since I had nowhere to put them. There was a Genesis one that I'd like to have gotten, but I think another employee took it. They have a hard plastic back and the letters are made of of some type of plastic-like foam board. Anyone have any idea where I might be able to get the materials to make something like that, or possibly have one made? I'd love to get the current systems done in that style too.

Well, I won't lie, I don't know, but I do know something.

I'm probably gonna try and attempt to steal that Saturn one.

You know, is that a harder type of foam? We have some mats on the floor in the physics lab where I work. We use them in places where we stand a lot, like in front of glove boxes. They snap together like puzzle pieces (kind of), and come in lots of bright colors. Anyways, they are made of a rigid kind of foam, about that thickness. It looks a lot like the foam used on those signs.

The hard plastic stuff is probably a material called Sintra. It comes it different colors and thicknesses. The thicker harder foam is probably a type of GatorBoard, custom cut, then painted. Again, this comes in different thicknesses as well. You can get a lot of stuff like this custom made at a sign shop, or a large format print shop.

I checked out the two products you mentioned, and those appear to be the ones that were used. Now I'm going to have to track some of it down. Thanks!

I have a NEAR complete set of these, I believe there is 9 or 10 in all. The Saturn one is the only one I do not have.

I have

Nintendo (NES)
Super Nintendo
Nintendo 64
Sony
Playstation
Sega
Genesis
Dreamcast

There MIGHT be one more, I will have to go home and check.

EDIT: Side note. There were only around 400 sets of these made. Managers were instructed to DESTROY these. Ours went in my car. 8-)

I'm at work, but if you need references, just ask DigitalPress or Drexel923 if you don't believe me.

@ GAC: I didn't know there was a Dreamcast one! The sign in our particular store was a screen printed sign, white on black. Interesting there were Sony and Sega ones, too.

I've still got my canvas Funcoland banner that says 'Bring Home the Fun!" as well.

Those were the days, I tells ya.

I still have 2 or 3 of my green shirts!

Oh yeah, and you remember the little crystal display that was a pyramid that said "Friendliness and Honesty are what we strive to perfect?"

Yeah I remember it too, it's sitting on my shelf. 8-)

I KNOW I have other stuff like the "G.A.M.E.S" manual floating around. ALL kinds of promos. and stacks of GI. I was an employee there 1998-2000, I got out when Gamestop moved in. And I "Brought home the fun" that was FuncoLand.

FuncoLand > Gamestop. Always and Forever.

Still got my green shirt, lol. Wore it a few times at GameStop.

The only really unique thing I got was a crystal award thing. It's a rectange, and it's for Holiday Heroics in 1997. Most likely for selling cleaners and whatnot.

One of the employees took the giant 'F' when they dismantled the Funcoland sign from the storefront. LOL

Our store front is still there. Apparently the contract with the strip mall says they are not allowed to change the name of the store. Go figure.

Hence, ours is one of the last remaining funcolands EVER!

Chandler, its a total shot in the dark, but your former place of vocation wouldnt happen to be the funcoland near Concord Pike would it?

I've got that NIntendo sign as well. My buddy at GameStop gave it to me before the merger....I wish I had room for the others at the time...this is why I need a house so badly. I would probably go crazy and get everything video game related imaginable!

thats funny, the gamestop I worked at from 2002 - 2003, lol, yeah not a long run at all, we were cleaning out the back area one day, and came across similar signs, but they are White, with brown letters, on the hard plastic, almost like painted on, not raised off the board like the ones seen here. I have A saturn one, which has the Saturn symbo... (coolness), I have a genesis and a gamegear one, my friend got the nintendo one, bastard.... but I am content with these, at some point this weekend, I can post pics.

These hard plastic signs you speak of are the 2nd run for marketing. We received similar ones for our store to replace these tackboard ones that oobgarm has posted.

Wouldn't having a second copy of everything video game imaginable be redundant? I mean, come on.. you already have one of everything...

Heh, that was a bit creepy, I lived in wilmington for a bit, no offence, but the Kirkwood Highway store was the one I frequented. I recently traveled back up there and was surprised to find that the Concord store still had the Funco sign up there.

Back on subject...The babbages I worked at had similar signs except they were black and purple. I saw them when they were clearing out the store, looked like they went from Genesis to Dreamcast. I guess thats about when they all became gamestop? (Except for this one, which was still a corporate zombie, but due to lease agreements kept the Babbage's name and marquee.)[/quote]
