(no 'official' console name yet though)

Rev's virtual console is going to be awesome.

I'd have to see some pic/vidz of it before I'm all "bang -a - hoe" for it.

Unless you take it to be the "Nintendo Go" from that presentation slide leaked earlier today.

good god, I mean can the revolution possibly get any better?? I would have never expected in a million years to see tg-16 games on the rev... Sega porting genesis games seems alot more likely, but holy shit, this will be the greatest with NEC and Hudson on board. Mark this up as yet another reason I cant wait for the revolution.

Hopefully it will include many of the NEC games that didn't make it to America, and not Duck Tales and Tailspin...

Plus it depends on the pricing structure...

I really think that they need to just leave the name of the console at, "Revolution." It just seems logical to do so. Everyone knows it by that name, and it seems to fit the console quite well.

This whole Virtual Console thing is really starting to intrigue me. It seems that Nintendo is taking a very iTunes music store kind of stance with this. Who knows? Maybe we will be sending these "virtual games" to some sort of new Gameboy in the future. You know, like an iPod+iTunes kind of thing?

While it doesn't really make be any more interested then i already am, it certainly is a nice addition. It should do a lot to boost the old Sega fans into buying one.

Thanks for the link, Mayhem.

When I first watched the video, I was a tad unimpressed. It looks quite rough around the edges, in my opinion, but I'm sure it is a way off a release.

If the video is anything to go by... where is this unique control method that we've been told would be used? Using the stylus to draw lines...? Do me a favour.

I'm sure it'll be good, but I want to hear more - a teaser video is not enough.

I didn't expect to be impressed, but I was. Looks good and utilizs the stylus well. I might have to check that one out!

Could do without that childish yell sound, though.

Well, I did, but I expected it to be from hacking and emulation, I must say I am impressed with the direction the big N is headed in.

BIGGG UPDATE to this topic!

Follow-up with yesterday's announcement of supporting PC-Engine/Turbografx and Genesis game software via virtual console on Revolution, Nintendo confirmed that PC-Engine/Turobgrafx CD-ROM2 gameswill be supported, but no confirmation on Mega-CD/Sega-CD games yet.

S...S...Sega...CD..on...revol...ution.

S...S..Snatcher.....on both SuperCD...and Sega..cd...

my trousers have just gone sticky.

It's back to a 2 horse race for me between Nintendo and Microsoft.

That news just made me more eager to get my hands on my Revolution.

Now, the question is, will they follow M$ and Sony's lead and make the Revolution a worldwide simultaneous launch?
Or do I just import a JPN console?

If Nintendo's smart, they'll push for release of everything on Virtual Rev. Everything. It's going to happen eventually, as XBox Live Arcade shows, and it's only a matter of time. Videogame Heaven. Where all the great classics go when they die, and live forever.

Let me play every videogame ever made, with online multiplayer and worldwide high scores, and come up with a good monthly price for it all, and I'll grab a Rev on day one. Hell, I won't even ask for new games. Just gimmie my Tempest 2K and multiplayer MULE.

Does Nintendo even own the money to maintain so many titles, though? Not only that, but they would need to ask the permission of so many companies...

Well, Nintendo is only the platform provider. The software would have to come from the software companies that own the rights. Also, whatever new features, like online multiplayer, are used would depend on whoever owns the games. I'd expect we'll see some games that are simply dumped onto Virtual Rev, and others will take full advantage of the network.

This raises problems for older games that were created by now-defunct software publishers, but I'm sure some solution will arrive eventually. The hackers will get through one of these years, and then you'll see the abandonware.

I am already planning on getting a revolution, but after reading this, I can't wait to get my hands on it. TG-16 games??? NO FREAKING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they release Dracula X somehow, I would owe my life to Nintendo for having the balls to put this together.

Don't even get me started on the Genesis games...

Still systems that I already own, with the exception of the TGCD.

As soon as I find a way to upload my existing collection to the Revolution, then I suppose it will be kinda neat. Frankly, I still prefer to play games on their original system, even if the emulation is "official". There's no way I'll pay to download a game I already own. At least with music its fairly easy to rip songs off a CD. Ripping ROM images is a more involved process.

I still say there should be a way to prove ownership of games already owned.

I doubt a worldwide release.
http://gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=15659

Further, I think that importing one wouldn't be a good idea, as it's quite possible that it'll be region-specific and us westerners wouldn't be able to download from the Japanese server. But hey, that's just my speculation on the matter.

It is looking more like the Revolution will be a "ROM" box than a console.

If it s free or legal emulation is still makes me feel hollow. I get nothing tangible and in the case of the Rev i spend $$ and i still get nothing tangible.

You can't collect ROMs and there is no sense of accomplishment from having a bunch (despite what teens with Rom collections may say).

Yup. If this is going to be the Revs "ace" then i'll pass.

Even though I have all these classic games on EMU and im far from being a "teen" ;) I still think that having Sega Genesis and TG-16 games on the Revolution is very kooool 8-) and a big + for retro fans.

the Turbographix-16 was and still is one of my favorite systems so Im hopeful for that games like Ninja Spirits will be available for the Revo.

My question is if the turbographix CD games will be available why not Sega CD,SATURN or even Dreamcast ? Now THAT would be the ultimate virtual console.

There was a statement on IGN of the possibility of NEW content for the classic platforms also.

So what do you guys think this gonna do to the collectability/value of Turbografx stuff? Will it go up, due to renewed interest and facetime. Or will it go down cause of availabilty. My personal thought is that the common stuff will go up and the rares will go down.

Things like the system and many of the HuCard games will suddenly be sought after since all the people playing Turbografx for the first time want to see what it was all about. The high-end stuff will go down, since it's so readily available. Shelling out $200 for a copy Dungeon Explorer II is no longer the only way to go. Assuming of course that DEII is available for download.

I honestly don't think TG-16 stuff will be affected that much.

I suppose there will be some people who will get interested but i'm sure there will be more than plenty of others who will just be like "why go buy it when i can play it on my Rev?"

There are tons of "retro collections" and i don't hear stories about masses of people buying older games because of those.

As cool as it is, having Turbografx-16 games on the Rev is a totally random choice. As far as I know, Nintendo and NEC never collaborated (correct me if I'm wrong, besides I like to know more than my boyfriend so if I can learn something new and rub it in, by all means lemme know!) so this decision seems totally out of the blue. I mean, Genesis makes a little sense, since now that Sega is strictly third-party software now and they've been making a lot of software for Nintendo consoles (the Sonic Mega Collection was originally GameCube exclusive, until the released the Plus edition on XB and PS2 a year or 2 later) and Genesis is the Sega console that the general public remembers the most. It's also kind of ironic. After the huge console war that Genesis and SNES had in the 90s, now they're hand-in-hand. It just goes to show that even the most bitter of enemies can bury the hatchet.
But I am stoked, because games that I can't find easily or games that I want to try before I search high and low and buy the original versions are just a download away.

I think adding the TG16 games to the virtual console library was totally out of the blue also. But I realize what Nintendo is trying to do with it. Nintendo is trying to secure as many franchises and companies as they can, to appeal to as many people as they can with the virtual console.

Ideally there'll be a way to just pop your actual PC Engine game disk into the Revolution and run the game off the emulator.

OMG! /me faints. That was already so bad ass, now it plays TG16 and Genesis! If it would only play Master System and PS1! There's no chance of PS1 w/o an emulator, but SMS is quite possible. Mmmm, that would rock.
