HOLY CRAP!!!

God of War 1 was the most amazing PS2 game ever. God of War 2 is going to be crazy delicious.

Is it for the PS2 or PS3?

I just got back from the EB around the corner from my office--and just picked it up. For those that didn't know, its a two-disc set with a ton of bonus material. There is also a limited edition guide available--but its $30!! I would like to pick it up (as I absolutely loved the first game and have the first guide) but just can't justify that much. Even with the 20% discount, we're still talking 25+ for a guide. That's half way to another new game.

Now I just need to count the hours (4) until I leave to go home and play

My focus has been upon older modern games (mostly for the Saturn and PS2), and I plumb forgot about GoW2. But from what I heard, it's even greater than the first game. All I can say is MORE BOSS FIGHTS. That right there is a seller for me. I'm going to try and pick this up as soon as I can... provided that the prices aren't too high. If it's at $50, I might want to consider a drop first... luscious as this game looks, I can somehow wait a bit. We'll see what happens.

Oh, and from what I've seen, upper female nudity persists... even though I could have done without it this time around. You'll see what I mean... :X

I'll be picking this up for sure. :D I actually need to go finish the first one LOL I'm at the end but I keep having trouble getting through the clone part! those damn bastards never all want to die! I keep wacking away at them forever until I or my family get killed then I start the whole process over. I havn't been back to attempt though in a while so I probably should.
loving the great reviews though on this 2nd installment.

Really looking forward to pick up God of War 2. Unfortunatly i must wait until the end of march for the PAL version :\ I can import tho, but id rather get the PAL in case i want to play it on another PS2 that isnt modded.

On a side note, i read that Sony has confirmed GoW 3 for the PS3 and that it will have rumble feature :)

Stay close to your family and use quick 3-4 hit combos. When you or your family take damage, knock the enemies back some and give the family some love...

Anyway, GOW is a great game, one of my favorites. I'm sure GOW2 is just as good or better. Before I pick it up though, has anyone heard if there might be a port of it coming to PS3, or even 360? I would rather pick it up for the newer systems if I could. Even if I would have to wait awhile.

There will unquestionably NOT be a port to PS3. And, in case you didn't know, its created by a first party Sony Studio. If you haven't figured it out yet, GOW is Sony's Halo. A 360 port will NEVER EVER happen.

With all of that said--I can undoubtebly tell you this is the finest action game I have EVER PLAYED. I spent 3+ hours on it last night and could barely pull myself away to go to sleep. I thought the first game was perfect. The set pieces that you play in are beyond amazing. You will find your jaw dropping left and right AND the music is just as good as the first game.

I just can't say enough about it and I've barely scratched the surface. In my opinion, there isn't a Wii/360/PS3 game that can touch God of War 2 with a 1000 ft pole. It is that amazing. There is no waiting for the next-gen---it is here NOW on your PS2.

Nope, it will only come out for PS2. God of War is a Sony game so the chances for a port to another console than Playstation are slim to nill, same as Halo would come out to a Playstation console. It wont happend :\

I never really understood all the praise GOW got when it came out. It all felt like repetitive button mashing to me, with a few simple "puzzles" thrown in the mix.

I'll probably pick this up when it goes cheap.

Can only speak for myself, but the game got alot of great combos, upgrades (combos/life), great gfx, great atmosphere and of course, one of the most important things, a great story :)

I just picked GoW2 up at Circuit City and received a "cool" GoW2 T-shirt.

http://akimages.crossmediaservices.com/dyn_li/200.0.88.0/Retailers/CircuitCity/070311_9_cmb_1al.JPG

...and by "cool" I mean a hideous, useless, piece of junk that I'll never wear. Maybe I'll sell it on ebay.

I have to chime in here about GOW. I picked this up on a 3 for $40 deal at Target and I have played a ton of video games and this is one of the best ones I've played. I did hate the underwater but with each monster requiring a different style of attack to defet I found this to more than button mashing. I never pay more than $20 bucks for any video game (stay a little behind the curve) and I might go out an buy this

I've recently started playing the first game. I'm not a big fan of M-rated games (Or games by Sony's in-house developer), but this is an exception. It's freaking amazing!

I played GoW2 for about 2 hours last night and was very impressed. The gameplay, story, music, and all around atmosphere are first class.

It's amazing what developers can do with the PS2 hardware (when supplemented with a huge budget...of course).

My thoughts exactly I played the Demo and I am amazed at the power squeezed out of the so called end of the life span ps2. When I look at gow2 and ninja gaiden black for the xbox. I (and I might be out on a limb) think these could be released on the next gen hardware and none would be the wiser.

I usually try to stay cheap and in a budget but I feel when a developer goes all out and puts out an amazing game I feel compelled and have no problem to purchase new at full retail price. My way of saying thanks for the effort.

Exactly. We need to make sure we buy the AAA games that are truly worth their $50 tags when they launch. Some may disagree, but I'm more than willing to support dev houses that make games that look and play like GOW.

My only gripe is that the game does not upscale to 720p like had originally been reported by IGN for the PS3. I can't even imagine what it would have looked like. Then again, maybe the jaggies would have looked worse at that rez. Eh, no real reason to complain. This is unquestionably the PS2's swan song--and what a song it is.

gepeto, I agree with you completly.

I usually pay $20 or less for games, but after playing GOW1, which was amazing, there is a very good chance I will go out an pay full price for this game which will be my first on the PS2!

I saw where spiderman 3 will cost something stupid like $35M and that game will probably be average at best, so no for full price on that.

I've owned the first God of War ever since I was able to grab a sealed non-GH release for $20. I didn't really play it until last weekend. Watching "300" put me in a bit of a Spartan kind of mood. I ended up playing through the game on Normal and running through the Challenge of the Gods extra.

God of War II is really cool. Throwing you right into the action against the colossus (as they did with the Hydra in the original) is a great way to start things off. I'm a couple stages into the game and I'm betting that I'll have played through it by the end of the weekend.

As for the price, I managed to have EB Games essentially pay me $7 to walk out of their store with a new copy of God of War II. That was pretty funny.

Freaking incredible game. Just finished it tonight and it was a 100% blast all the way through, I liked it way better than the original even. Loved the mass improvement on the amount of boss fights, and all the mythological characters they through in the game. I think this is one I'll defenitely replay most likely on the hardest difficulty. There's still tons of things I missed, like most of the urns.

Not me. When my Federal tax refund comes in, I'm headed to KMart to get that one. And, if it's available, its a-fucking-mazing prequel, too. (Despite what people say, they have a hell of a game selection.)

Man the combo system was kinda broken thanks to crono's rage.

drop the ball/chain lightning and start slashing away getting 100+ hit combos have gotten too easy...

Also I just beat the game and I noticed something interesting

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

in the inner sanctum of the temple of the fates (after the boss fight with the two fates), there's 3 murals on the ground floor.

Going Clockwise

1] The all consuming struggling between the Titans and the Olympians rages on.

2] A lone soul surveys the wake of carnage that surrounds him.

3] Three travelers heading to an unknown destiny. (there's a image of three figures and a couple of stars, one star being bigger than the other two)

the first one talks about the titan/god war, the second foreshadows the end of the game, but the third? Are we to believe that by killing all the Olympians, Kratos becomes the singular god of the Judeo-Christian faiths?

Kratos sent his only son to fight for our sins!!!

SPOILERS END!

definitely looking forward to the psp and ultimately the ps3 release
