I never thought I'd say this, but an 11 year production run.

I'm quite impressed.

?

I heard that they were offering service up until recently, but that sounds familiar.

Nintendo stopped making Famicoms and Super Famicoms in 2003, I think is what he meant.

A 20 year production run is pretty impressive.

I think he's referring to Famicom production, which did in fact continue until 2002-03.

I know that, but I'd forgotten reading about it (both the FC and the SFC were being produced in Japan until '03). S'all good.

Atari 2800? 1977 to 1991? Anyone?

So...wait. PSX production didn't end until just recently?

Where exactly did all the ones they were manufacturing for the last 2 years end up? Must've been for specialty shops. Either way it is about time it happened.

As one generation turns to the next, the past must fade.

A grocery store near us is still selling them for $68.00.

I've been tempted to get one a couple of times. My PSOne is kind of broken, the lid doesn't really stay shut easily, and the LED is botched. (BTW, these are my fault, I replaced the case with one from eBay - the screws didn't fit all that well - let's just leave it there - I wish I had that 20 bucks back).

I've never picked up one of those little LCD screens for a PSOne. Maybe the combo packs will go down in price, I've seen those stil hovering over $100. I'd totally dig one of those :D

Also very impressive. Especially for a company that went belly up later on.

Hm.. what do you mean? Considering the last NES game came out in 1995 i doubt they produced NES until 2004.

Btw, is that why there are some new ROB/Gyromite sets for Famicom floating around? I thought someone found and old batch or something.

I read about this at the PS Museum, incidentally run by 1 of our members.

It's unfortunate, but there really haven't been any good games out for it, for years, so it's not too much of a shame.

In some countries, some consoles have a longer shelf life.

I think the NES folded in the US in 1995 or 6. They must've kept manufacturing them for Canada and other select countries. The Sega Master System had a way longer shelf life in Europe, Australia, and South America than it did in North America and Japan.

I saw a few PSones left at Circuit City today for $50. I now have a MIB spare! :D

I figured, I might as well... Keep it in the collection for a few, and let it age.

Famicom - 1983 to 2003. Roughly twenty years, man.

Official last 'new' release was Fifa 05 released in Oct 2004. Last release at all was DDR Konamix Greatest Hits version in January 05.

Master System is still in production in Brazil. I wonder how much longer it'll last.

MUCH LONGER. Tec Toy has produced some 300 more this month, and are selling them on their website. Oh, and the Mega Drive ( Genesis) is still in production.

No new Brazilan SMS games have been released since '98, though. They just keep re-packaging the hardware with incrrasing numbers of built-in titles (something like 120 these days).

I'm pretty sure I remember a new SMS game in Brazil in 2003 or 2004. But it was just a "10 in one" cart of minigames, IIRC.

According to |tsr's info, it was Twinbee 3. (Not exactly a crappy way to go out, it should be noted.)
