View Full Version : What's up with the Intellivision lately?

Seems that as of late, the console has suddenly become "popular", and there are all manners of folks coming out, asking (and getting) big bucks for stuff.
Why the sudden interest? Seems like once upon a time, paying more than $150 for a game (even if you were a die-hard collector) would have been considered lunacy...

Where is this resurgance in interest? It's not happening at the AtariAge or DP message boards. Certain Intellivision titles have been pricey for a long time, such as Diner.

I've noticed that too. I've noticed the price of an Inty shoot up dramatically, as of late. About 2 years ago, you could get one (loose) for around $25-$30.
Now I see them going for prices like $60-$80. Loose. The consloes, themselves, must be getting mighty sparce. Yet for some reason, games are still cheaper than holy hell. With the exception of some, of course..
Maybe it's just where I live...

Most of the folks who troll here and there have had Intellivisions for a long time... it's primarily been on Ebay; seems there are 4-5 people who have gotten into Intellivision and are paying (in my opinion) ridiculous amounts of money for games and systems. Some of those folks have then been trying to resell stuff at high (again, my opinion) markups.
Now I admit, games like Spiker, Stadium Mud Buggies and some of the other late-release INTV titles are worth some $$$, but $300 a pop and up? I hate to see what a truly rare component, such as a Videoplexer, original Keyboard or carts/tapes for that unit would go for.

What I'd like to know is: what happened to the idea of publishing Intellivision Lives and or Intellivision Rocks on the Nintendo DS? That platform could actually do the system justice. The touchscreen would emulate the numeric pad, and the screen is small enough for the blocky graphics to look OK.

Perhaps there's a renewed interest in the top end, super rare stuff, but anything else (gamewise) can't even be given away.

Man if this is true I have really bad timing for collecting for it then. I was able to pick up a boxed system and I was thinking about trying for the complete collection because I thought it would be a cheaper one to get. I guess I was wrong.

Last I heard they were still working on it. Course, I could have sworn something was holding back release...I think it may have been the need for a publisher?

"..... umm, why would it?"
Because when it comes to message boards dedicated to that era, AtariAge is one of the biggest, despite the name, it's not just about Atari there.
Wouldn't happen here for sure, most pre NES threads gather hardly any replies.
And Intellivision Lives for the DS is still being worked on, with a publisher being looked for.

Agreed.
I think perhaps the interest in the top end stuff happened because of the Intellivision Lives discs being released so amazingly cheaply. When you see it and can pick it up for $5.00 and then remember what you used to play as a kid, you might want to go purchase the system more.

I agree with the poster above - Intellivision would rock on the DS - they could even include the little screen overlays on the screen - very cool :D
Hopefully they wouldn't screw it up with the graffiti job they pulled on the atari classics for DS.

So would now be good time to dump on the 'Bay the 4 spare Inty1's I've got?

"Now I know you're just shoveling it. Take the pro-AA/anti-DP diatribe elsewhere"
Nonsense, I post at both boards. There's not much activity here at all concerning consoles before the NES. Is that so terrible to say, or Digital Press somehow worse off for saying it?
"Is that so. I'm curious - what do you base this statement on? Comparison of message board traffic between the two? Started a poll on both boards? Surveyed people at various trade shows?"
Being a regular at both boards. I never claimed my statement was scientifically proven. Browse the topics at both sites.
Check the number of post for the username Atariboy at AA (~700 post there or so, compared to mine for here. Yeah, I'm so biased... :)
"So simply adding a 'classic games' forum on a site solely dedicated to one company makes them THE site for classic video game systems by ALL companies?"
What other message boards are there with the traffic and variety of these two? There's more specific ones dedicated to more singular topics, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find one with more traffic and variety than AtariAge is for the early generations of gaming, and Digital Press for the 8/16 bit eras and later. Unless you want something specifically dedicated to one subject, I don't think you can do better than these two.
No one was making it a anti DP/AA argument until you stepped in. I'm not intimately familiar with the stupid arguments that have taken place in the past concerning prototypes, rivalrys between classic gaming conventions, etc. So don't lump me in with that group. All you have to do is compare the topics being discussed at both boards to see what the audiences of each board like to discuss. Your much more likely to find a decent topic about variations in longbox PSX games here than you are Intellivision threads at AA, is that so terrible? Hard to take my "pro-AA/anti-DP diatribe elsewhere" when it didn't exist in the first place. :)
And the subject at hand was the rise in popularity of the Intellivision. I simply inquired where this was taking place, since quite frankly the Intellivision isn't talked about as much at the boards I visit than it was even 5 years ago it seems. And I receieved my explanation, so please let it go at that.
