Well, it might've helped if you'd said what genres of games interest you. But some games I've enjoyed...

Intelligent Qube
Super Puzzle Fighter II
The original Crash Bandicoot games (Crash Bandicoot, Crash 2 and Warped)
Triple Play Baseball (despite the bugs)
Jumping Flash 1 & 2
Gran Turismo 1 & 2
Metal Gear Solid

And tons more...most games are cheap so buy them all! :D

There's, um, lots of good games for PS1.
Do you think you could narrow things down a bit, maybe let us know what types of games you're looking for?

the "classic" Playstation games...the ones that you must have if you have a Playstation...It doesnt really matter to me what genre they are...I like all genres

A great little (surprisingly addictive) game for the ps1 is "No One Can Stop Mr Domino". Unique and a a lot of fun.

For a good inexpensive shooter, look up Strikers 1945, thats great as well.

Just a few games that often get overlooked.

MGS is a must
FFVII just because it's FFVII and everyone and their grandmother talks about it
I liked the ealier crash bandicoot games through racing I guess.
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos I loved, but I don't know how great the game actually is.
Just go to ps.ign.com, then reviews, then sort by all games with a 9 or better rating.. poof! All the best PS1 gams. LOL

You need to get Final Fantasy IX and Castlevania: SotN

Also, Jumping Flash 2 is a surprsingly addicted and fun game. Don't let the first gen graphics fool you :)

edit: you need Chrono Cross too

Your collection would be one with exceptional quality and grace if these titles graced its presence:

Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (2-D Castlevania at its absolute peak)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Tomba! (Excellent 2-D platformer with role playing elements)
Metal Gear Solid (Pure)
Chrono Cross
Twisted Metal 2

Start here, and be revered by all friends and close associates.

Suprised it has not been mentioned yet but both Dragon Warrior VII and Legend of Mana were good RPGs..

Classic must-have PlayStation games, mostly something a little different or forgotten:

Ace Combat 2
Crash Bandicoot series
Cybersled
Dead or Alive
Descent
Destruction Derby
Einhänder
Formula 1 (original)
G. Darius
Gran Turismo
Grandia
Incredible Crisis!
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete
Metal Gear Solid
N20 Nitrous Oxide
PaRappa The Rapper
Pepsiman (import)
Porsche Challenge
RC de Go!
Ridge Racer series
--Ridge Racer
--Ridge Racer Revolution
--Rage Racer
--R4 Ridge Racer Type 4
Starblade Alpha
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo
The Next Tetris
Vib-Ribbon (import)
Wipeout series

Nitrous Oxide is horribly overlooked, it's like an acid trip version of Tempest. RC de Go! was a later release but is kind of like a polygonal RC Pro-Am.

If your PS is chipped [or otherwise import friendly], you must get Ace Combat 3, the J version.

It's superior to the US/PAL release in every possible way.

I would like to slap SaGa Frontier 2 to this list.
I persoanlly really enjoyed the game. It's like a novel....very intirgueing story, stunning enviroments, there are so many great factors in this game. Difficult ending, as opposed to most games where endings are usually a breeze if you pick up a few secrets, and it's about one of the only games to make good use out of the Pocket Station.
The downside for some is that it is short (15-20 hours), which I didn't mind at all because the game leaves you with a good feeling of completion.
I think this game definitly deserves a chance in any RPG lovers playstation.

I enthusiastically second N20: Nitrous Oxide. I would further recommend Nanotek Warrior; it's not as trippy, but still fun.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Syphon Filter. I really had a lot of fun with that one, and its sequels (the original moreso, though).

My favorite game on the system has got to be Parappa the Rapper. But then again, I'm a sucker for both music games and games with "cute" plots.
