i know the ps2 is a huge collection to get started on and i am wondering if there is anyone out there besides me that has started to take on this lovable task of finding them all. im good with the games, but i need some demo discs that came out before i started collecting. i need demos and trade demos.

does anyone know a post on digitpress i can find some or another website that sells demo discs other than ebay?

thanks,

id also like to know if anyone has more ps2 games than i do. i think that is almost impossible but id still like to know im not ion a solo misson.

also, DIGIT press tech guys, the online guide for the ps2 games should include devil may cry 3 twice if it doesnt already, because the greatest hits release has a different SLUS number

the midnight club dub edition remix needs to be listed twice if it doesnt already because it has two different SLUS numbers.

the is a game listed on sony's website as the ESA game. it is a brand new boxed game and has three games inside. Atv offroad fury 2, Splashdown rides gone wild, and Need for speed hot pursuit 2. this has an SCUS number of 97530.

i do not know if other ESA compilations exist. please let me know if anyone has come across any.

thank you and thats my ps2 bit for the day

There are some who are as foolish as to not only take on a PS collection... but a PS2 collection as well. I am one of those fools.

Here's some answers for ya to your many questions.

I've not personally found any sites selling demo discs or Trade Demo's. I've gotten mine either thru ebay auctions, here on DP, or just getting them from the stores as I go thru them. I'm stitting somewhere around 150 but my exact number is off until I get my list updated. That also doesn't count the Online Beta's of which ive got another 8 or so.

And you have how many PS2 games? Before demo's and variants i've got at least 363 PS2 games (mind you my list is outdated so I don't know my exact number, but its at least that)

We've got another forum thats focus is for talking about and correcting/asking about the rarity guide. Oobgarm (the resident PS2 list handler) knows about the games and i'm sure has added them in, but the online guide hasn't been updated in a few months due to a game store opening and the recent illness that Joe has been diagonsed with. The guide is important, but peoples health and wellness is much more important. Fear not, the list will be updated soon.

As far as i've seen theres currently only that one ESA compilation pack and there was a thread made in the above mentioned forum about it as well.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions.

The last file I sent off was current through 12/15/05. It hasn't been added into the database yet. I've been keeping track of new releases in an offline file, so I'm current up through last week.

If you come across anything squirrley or have anything to add, do let me know as I'm constantly working to improve the quality of my section!

I started to collect PS2 a while back-but the games were still too expensive at that point to do so. I see that many of the titles are $5-10 now, so I'm sure I'll be picking up a bunch of them once I get financially stable. I think I'm sitting on 157 at the moment, after the huge 50+ game trade in of last year for a PSP. :)

i see that there have been two posts to my topic. thank you guys for you much needed replies. i wish i could ahold of more of the demos, trade demos, and online demos, but i fail in that area. if anyone has any for trade or for sale please do email me.

as to my collection. i find its best to be on top of the market as to releases because when they come out and they get sold off you may never come across them again. like a new title warship gunner 2. how many people actually care or even know where number 1 was. well number 1 was naval ops warship gunner released on the ps2. either way

that title #2 will be sold out at eb's and they might be the only company buying the title. guitar hero. thats another one. its sold and gone. just like mario ddr for the cube tey come and they go. then you see metal gear subsistance on ebay for 175? what ae they thinking. that titles here and gone.

i currently own roughly 1300 ps2 titles and have hundreds of demos. i collect the non greatest hits, and always buy the boxed games first. then when they come out at greatest hits and i havnt bought anything in a while i will go for them so in all i have about 1500 ps2 games.

but the list is growing and you might ask how do i afford all of this. well, you have to know what titles to buy and you have to know what titles are going to drop in price fast or just drop off the face of the selling shelves fast and be hard to find.

so to everyone that collects ps2 games,

good luck

and if oyu have any demos, im always up for a good trade. i also trade for nes 8 bit stuff and have about 350 extra titles to get rid of if there are any takers.

thanks,

I am slowly starting to lean towards collecting PS2 games, but I have all the current gen (home)systems and I keep buying for them aswell, maybe when the ps3 comes out and games become alot cheaper for it I will be hard core into it.

I guess I could be considered a PS2 collector as Im pushing about 180 ps2 games. I agree with PapaStu though, you kinda have to be somewhat insane to pursue a PS2 collection. I guess I have a few screws loose up top LOL .

warship gunner 2

That's definitely one to keep an eye on, I think. It won't have an audience like Disgaea or anything like that to drive up prices, but once collectors start snapping up titles, this one might be scarce.

guitar hero

Maybe if you're into variants...the recent reprint has a nicer and sturdier box than the original release. It's like a glossy flip-open lid type box, I thnk. They're everywhere now, particularly Best Buy. I think I saw 20+ copies this past weekend. The original packaging (white carboard with outer printed slipsleeve) might be tough to come by. But no way will that game be rare.

metal gear subsistance on ebay for 175?

That will die off, IMO. There's obviously a demand for it, which will probably lead to reprinting. There is no 'true' limited edition game for any console yet.

But 1300 games? Are they all domestic, or are there some imports scattered about? Do you have a list? I'd love to see it or some pictures. That's a LOT of PS2 games!

pictures of a true collection are somewhat like taking pictures of your beautiful fiance. you already have all of the images of the fiance in your head to take care of the fact that you know she is real, but pictures of the video game collection? YOU GUYS NEED PROOF?

i can get proof. i am at work and school all day today but i can put pics in a blog? my collection is 100% strictly ps2 america. not copies. not fake. and i keep it in alphabetical order. i get about 10 new games a month and i cant keep up with the constant drop in game price to 20 bucks.

if you collect all the current gen systems? you need to WEED out the bad ones. like x box? great system if you like halo...

microsoft is done supporting that system. start collecting now and you can have all their bests by christmas. pick up the steel battalion or it will be you rlast item, but to collect xbox you are gonna need the halo green xbox.

i dont collect xbox but i do have a halo green xbox in its box as to not get dust on it....

if anyone knows how to post pics let me know and i can post them. other than that i have them in my eyes and i can see them whenever i want. i laugh at ebay when i watch the prices for ps2 games like guitaroo man. what was that 100 a month ago or so. i bought mine from media play for 18.00 brand new.

either way.

IF YOU COLLECT PS2 contact me or post it int his forum. the biggest things on the ps2 to collect in the usa are the boxed games. time cris series vampire night yanya caballista all the boxed released rpg's and misprint labels

i have a madden 2005 misprint where the label is cut wront. i have a factory sealed gradius 5 with no cover art inside. that was when they still stuck the ps2 upc sticker on the top of the games. now they have switched to some stupid way of shrinkwrapping unexplainable by any game god.

thanks for all the interest in this topic. im trying to catch any collectors out there with trade stuff. maybe extra demos or betas... pm me

i do own both prints of the guitar hero. the first i bought on launch and the other soon after. never played it though except for a demo at a game crazy store.

NOT A BIG FAN OF IT

i do collect label variations too. crazy taxi for instance. one copy black and yellow. one copy black and yellow but on the cover art it includes a mini guide and one copy red and yellow greatest hits.

as i posted earlier i got a hold of a factory sealed gradius 5 with no cover art cool.

i also have dave mirra greatest hits red on red with no slus # on the spine. i wonder if this is so for all gh dave mirra games?

i have the rereleased versions of some of the disney games such as monsters inc. the free with pre order games of shadow hearts and midways treasures i think there were more but not sure im not with them.

i also have the 1st and second namco museums games. the greatest hits rerelease of the namco museum was the first GREATEST HITS TITLE to not have the same SLUS# as the original

for example newer greatest releases as devil may cry 3 and midnight club dub edition have different slus #'s

Exactly what I'm thinking, PS1 was out about 10 years and only had like 1,000 games and the PS2 only been out 6-7 years. I'd love for you to prove wrong though.

I don't full on collect PS2 so much as I buy the games I'm interested in playing and build up a nice little backlog that'll hold me over until many years after I die.

Right now I'm sitting at 128 US titles and 36 Japanese titles.

1300 Ps2 games... and you're saying you like to buy them on release? That's a lot of fucking money. O.o

I'm not actively collecting PS2 RPGs... yet. But by buying the ten to fifteen dollar titles whenever I run across them in addition to the must haves upon release and of course collector box games (which I find are pain in the ass to find complete used) I've aquired 44 RPGs. Which hey, I realize is like nothing compared to other collectors, but it's decent for a specialized collection.

As for vairent hunters... Guitar Hero has to be a complete nightmare. I've seen three distinctively different box style variants prior to the rerelease.

I'm a little over 300 between US and JPN, but I'll never try for a complete collection. They pump out way too many games to keep up with. When I first got one I thought about it, but that quickly faded away.

Good luck!

1300 Ps2 games... and you're saying you like to buy them on release? That's a lot of fucking money. O.o Yeah, I when i was doing the buy stuff new kick (all the RPG's ect) I was dumping almost everything I pulled in every month and was barely making a dent in the overall picture except for the 800+ kick to my wallet every month.

As for vairent hunters... Guitar Hero has to be a complete nightmare. I've seen three distinctively different box style variants prior to the rerelease.

UG.... I didn't want to know that. I've avoided the second boxed release..... not to mention the very hard to find Red Guitar thats only on Red Octane's website on occasion. I've had a hard enough time getting all the Big Box released DDR games, of which i'm missing the newest two still.

See... that kind of collecting to me just screams obsession. How much fun can it really be to plunk down all your money and just take anything you want? I get all excited whenever I find a decent game, in the right condition, used for a good price. To me, that's when my hobby's the most fun.

Heh sorry. :P I wanted that cherry red guitar for awhile, but of course everytime I've gone to buy it it's been out of stock. And of course now that we've moved on from playing guitar hero all the time, it's no longer that appealing.

Wow you do have alot. I lost count of mine after 200.
I would have never known there were over 1200 ps2 releases. I think it took the psx alot longer to reach that mark. I would like to complete a collection of a system but I cover all the systems and it makes it tough. Nice collection though.

About that Guitar Hero thing. I wish the release ones were the nicer boxes, because then I would have a nice place to put it. At this point, its just sitting out in the open on my DDR pad because that other box would be a bitch to open and close every time I got the urge to play a song or two.

WHen the ps3 gets going and ps2 prices drop im thinking about picking it up for all the AAA
titles i missed especially.

I think it would be foolish to start a collection now rather than wait... unless its for the hard to find titles. The more common games are going to be getting cheaper imo.

And thus the reason I stopped. I've never been a huge RPG player and alot (at the time) was going towards those or other games I wasn't playing at all. I'd say that in the last year and a half i've not picked up but one or two RPG's (Samurai Legend Musashi, I loved the first one, not so much this one and maybe one more i'm not thinking of) and no where near the amount of games like I was before. Moving to a place with much more limited space has also helped quell the OCD that I would toss at getting games (not to mention that I cover all my own bills now and simply am lucky to afford more than a DS game or two a month).

Time Crisis boxes havn't been a huge issue, but i've not gone after the last one or two because i've just not been playing them enough to warrant the money on them.

budokai 3... and budokai 3 greatest hits have totally different art work.

dont forget about the growlancer special collectors edition for the ps2...does anyone else have that title in their collection of rpg's for the ps2?

Perhaps you're overwhelming yourself? I'd be content with just one version of the game personally, and I'd try to make that one copy the hardest to find of the variants. I'd never go out of my way to collect the GH games, as they're going to be EVERYWHERE for a good long while, even after the system's active lifespan is over. But to each their own.

I anxiously await pics.

I'm pretty sure there are 1300-1500 ps2 games out yet alone the fact that yo ucould own them all.

I'm not one to call another collector a liar generally and I know there are quite a few people out there with bigger collections than me (so it isnt about that) but your n umbers dont add up. There arent even that many games out.

Lets assume that even though you work for a gamestore and go to college you are from a rich family. Ok still your numbers dont add up - 10 games a month woul dnot hit 1300 games even if some months you bought 20+

I buy around that many games a month on average (10-30) across gcn/gba/DS/psp/ps2/xbox/360 and I dont even have that many.

I have around 450 ps2 games (all US releases/NEW except for wizardry which I bought used)

Had you told us all yo uhave 900 ps2 games I might believe you but any number over 1100 for ps2 is fishy sounding.

Personally I havent seen anyone with more than 450 ps2 games on any sites yet but I am positive there are several people out there with 500-700 ps2 games.

I'd like to add that I dont doubt you have a large ps2 collection most likely larger than even mine but I really think you are PROBABLY greatly overestimating your numbers. Your idea of 1300 is probably in all actuality something like 700-800 still A TON but unlike 1300 its actually an attainable number.

There are lots of people that have complete or near complete PSOne and PS2 US collections. I am only missing a total of six PSOne games (and my collection would be complete except for the fact that I only collect sealed games) and 68 PS2 games, although most of them are sports titles, so I will probably wait a few more years so I can get them for a few bucks each.

I've only just started my PS2 collection (clocking in right around 150 games) but I'm under the impression that now is the perfect time to start. There's a huge catalog of first and second year titles that you can get used for a couple bucks. I know there are a lot of folks who only buy new, but if I find something old and in perfect condition, then I'm willing to take the dramatic price difference. By the time you manage to score all the cheapest games, a new group of games also goes down in price. The key becomes about getting the hardest ones as quickly as possible, and then taking your time to mop up the trash you find in bargain bins.

I've always put the total of PS2 games somewhere around 1200 or 1300, and it looks like those assumptions were not unfounded, as I trust Oobgarm's analysis. At the current rate of growth and then slowing, what do you think the final tally could be? I believe it could get as high as 1600, maybe higher if the PS2 budget scene is anything like its PS1 ancestor.

While a complete collection is probably far out of my reach financially, I'd be happy with 500-800 of the best titles, leaving things like the Sea World game for the great collecting netherworld. :)

Joker T

I consider myself a collector for a system as soon as I get the console, so yeah, I've been collecting since the PS2's launch day :)

I'm not a completist though. I've thought about going down that path, but I'd just end up with games I'd hate to play and really all I want is to do is play my collection in the end, so I try to be somewhat choosey (I've sold lots of games I didn't like in the past).

So I've only got 61 games for the PS2 right now - which is by *far* the most games I've owned for a current gen system and is 3rd overall amongst the systems I collect for (30+). I'm gonna miss this generation a *lot* - the prices of new and used PS2 games have been just fantastic. Xbox 360 game pricing scares me :(

I do have a bunch of PS2 demo discs from The Official US PlayStation magazine that I might be willing to part with in a trade if you or anyone else is interested. I've never compiled a list of what I have, but it starts back when they first started publishing PS2 discs and goes for at least 20 discs or so I think. They're all disc only.

I really appreciate you taking the time to shoot those photos. I had no idea how many variations there were out there. Any chance you can snap a photo of the variations in the Midway Arcade Treasures releases?

WHAT SHOULD GO HERE

SOME OF THOSE CASES ARE EMPTY GUYS. I WILL ELT YOU KNOW I CAN GET CASES FROM WORK FOR FREE WHEN WE DONT HAVE THE GAMES ANYMORE...

THE ONLY PS2 GAMES I REALLY COLLECT HAVE TO BE UNOPENED JUST LIKE THE GUYS WERE MENTIONING BEFORE IN THE POST.

SORRY TO DISAPPOINT ANYONE BUT WHO HAS THAT KIND OF MONEY? SERIOUSLY?

Yikes. Mostly empty cases? :shameful: If I took all the cases I could have when I worked at GameStop, I'd have a collection of cases like that too. Kinda wish I would have now that I think about it.

While you've got a good start to completing a collection, as discs don't change as much as cases/inserts, you've shot your cred all to hell. Which, on this forum, is of utmost importance.

By my count there are no more than 1230 PS2 titles currently available.

That's straight from the offline DP Guide file. I haven't missed a game yet. 1300 games is completely obtainable.

I wasnt questioning the guide or the numbers you said were available I was questioning the numbers he siad he owned. I mean even IF there were 1300 games which I think in one of my posts I mentioned how i didnt think there were more than like 1100-1200 games roughly which you also said there were about 1230 but even if there were 1300 the odds of someone haveing EVERY single one at this point is highly unlikely not just from a monetary sense but also from being able to keep up every week even on all the limited release games and have every single game of the 1300 people are bound to miss at least a few. Thats why I said it would be more believable if he claimed to have 800-900

As for the collection well thats still a lot of cases but im pretty sure those cases dont add up to 1300. from a quick estimate if each of your six (at least I think it was 6) cases held 200 games each that would put you at 1200 game cases. Even so one of those racks are smaller and i'd estimate that the big racks actually hold about 170ish games.

So you have closer to ardoun 1050 game cases ROUGHLY with some of them being games (not sure how many) More cases than I anticipated but also like I figured you overestimated your number.

Heh, so in either case you can't play anything in your collection? The games are all either sealed or these no discs to play.

What I don't get is you told everyone you had a complete PS2 collection for I'm guessing bragging rights. Your sig screams "show off". Then you go through the trouble of posting the pictures so everyone would believe you, then you let us know that they're empty cases? Why? No one's impressed anymore. So what was the point of this thread?

What was the point of taking home over a thousand empty boxes from work, filling your room up with crap just to to say "LOOK AT ME! I OWN NO GAMES!"?

Even if you were hoarding the cases to resell once the PS2 became a popular collectable only a small percentage of those cases will ever became remotely valuable. Mainly the card board collector boxes, and the cases to the rarer titles & some RPGs. So what's the point of bringing them ALL home?

WHY?!!?!

neonesmaster

i guess you havnt been following this thread very close. there are sickos outthere that make no sense and then there are collectors. a true collector doesnt need bragging rights and pics dont show anything. let just change the topic and end this thread if no one out there has any true questions about collecting for the ps2 system.

thats why this thread was started to begin with and then you get nice guys that think up stupid crap like im gonna steal all of the empty cases. what a nice guy.

either way. its been fun and i showed some pics of a true collectors heart, so where are the rest of you at?

thanks to everyone out there...

"IF YOUR COLLECTION BEATS MINE I WANNA SEE SOME PROOF!"

MY COLLECTION PWNS J00!!! I HAVE PROFF!!!!

By the way, STEALING (yes, stealing) stuff from work doesn't make you a collector. It does make you kind of pathetic though.

By the way BoxMasterNeo, you've got a broken link there. But since I'm dumb and/or gay, it probably just doesn't work for me. Curse my dumb-gayness.

thanks for making a great topic extinct.

This was nothing more than a topic for you to wag your wang around. Just look at your signature for gawd's sake.

If you want to start topics about "EA Sports variants on the PS2", "How not to get dust on your Halo X-Box", or "Take a look at my massive collection of PS2 Cases", then have at it. I'll either contribute helpfully, stay out of it if I have nothing constructive to add, or [harsh phrase self edited] call you out for a BS post.

Frankly, I don't know why I'm continuing to respond anyway. I may be channeling a more general anger about the state of these boards in your direction. But when you post content as cocky as you have, you're just asking for it.

Even if you did have 1300 complete PS2 games, the kind of grandstanding in your original/subsequent post(s) and in your signature is never welcome here and will only invite you animosity from other board members.

People may confuse this place as a haven for elitists (though it looks more like gamefaqs these days). But they don't realize that some of the most serious videogame collectors in the world post here post here. We value good content in our posts and shun +1 posting.

Swallow a humility pill, look both ways before you cross the street, and proceed. If you don't, someone’s going to hit you with a metaphorical bus, and you'll be out of here before you know it.

this post was dedicated to talking to others about their collections and what interests them. not what game colleciton has the most or what you do on sunday when you rmom is gone and there i no milk in the fridge for your bran flakes.

either way you have it blissful noise is all i hear. but that evil harkingof a jerk behind bars comes through with out a bit of silence and ruins the blissfulness of anything found godly.
