View Full Version : Robo Aleste for Sega CD...Foam piece?

I just got a supposedly factory sealed copy of Robo Aleste for Sega CD. I was about to drop it into my collection when I noticed by looking through the hinge that it has no foam piece inside. Of course I was pissed, immediately thinking that not only did I get ripped off but now I don't have a FS Robo Aleste. As I continued looking at the game I wondered if it even came with the foam piece at all. I have 50+ FS Sega CD games so I'm pretty astute when it comes to finding re-seals. Everything about this game looks FS. The manual looks perfect and the seams are correct. There is no hanging tag but that isn't definitive at all. So I guess I have a few questions:

1. Is there anyone around who has another factory sealed Robo Aleste that can verify whether or not it came with a foam piece?

2. All of my FS Sega CD games have a foam piece, does anyone know if every longbox Sega CD game come with a foam piece from the factory?

3. If no one can confirm the inclusion of the foam, is it possible Robo Aleste didn't come with a foam piece because it is the only Sega CD game made by Tengen, who is known for packaging variants?

Thanks

When I bought my first copy of this game, new, back in the day, it did come with the foam piece.

Mine too. I think *most* Sega CD games did, IIRC.

I have a factory sealed Robo Aleste and there is a foam piece inside. I don't know if that means you got screwed or not but i thought I would let you know.

If it's complete without foam, then I would like to buy it sooner or later. 8-)

Thanks for the info. I guess I got screwed. Now the question is should I open it or what?

You know it's entirely possible that it's still factory sealed and never has been opened. Production lines miss pickup in some places sometimes, things go out missing this or that, and it's quite possible part of the run didn't have the foam. Hell, I remember when we had to return Star Wars Rebel Assault II for the PlayStation to the vendor for like three months straight because they all had two Disc 2's in them. LOL

That still leaves the question does it deserve to be in my collection or not? Also I just noticed that even though everything else looks great the staples in the manual are rusted! If the game is factory sealed there shouldn't be any moisture in there. The plastic is not ripped either. How hard is it to re-seal a Sega CD game with the proper seams? I already know there are a few different sealing methods that were used by the manufacturers. Do you guys think I should open it and look for scratches on the CD?

What do the seams look like on your Aleste? Mine has seams on every side, not on the front or back. The seam on the top is smaller/thinner than the seams on the sides and bottom. It doesn't have a hanging tag. Are your staples rusted? I can't imagine they are.

I have a factory sealed Robo Aleste, and it is only the foam piece...game and box are missing, that is the strangest thing. I sell it to you if you want.

This is why I don't:

1) tilt at Windmills

2) collect sealed old games

So the foam is factory sealed? Hot damn! Lets make a deal!

Is Robo Aleste worth cracking open and playing? Yes. All games are worth at least one pl...stop...damn it...no...I won't make a sealed vs. non-sealed comment...blarg!

Robo Aleste is definitly worth playing. Can't you just make your own foam piece if its missing?

I would leave it sealed and contact whoever you purchassed it from. Some sellers will give you a refund if the game is exactly as they sent it to you. So if you open the game, then is is not in the same condition, and you probably won't get any refund. So don't open it untill you talk to whoever you got it from.

$10 game prolly not worth the aggravation, unless u r totally anal about sealed stuff. the question is did you want to play it or have it collect dust? and by all means, if u feel u have been wronged just return it and not bother. that's my 2 pennies :D hope it turns out 4 ya

Actually I bought it just to look at. It is an awesome (and ridiculously hard) game that I already have but I wanted a sealed copy. I was planning on selling the non-sealed copy I already had and just keeping the sealed one because I also have it on CD-R (so I'd still be able to play it).

In response to another comment it's really not worth the hassle for the $10 to pursue a refund. Additionally I'm pretty sure I'm going to let it slide and accept it as new since it is in such good condition and the seams look factory. If it is a reseal someone did a great job and spent time for little or no gain. At the very least the plastic will preserve the excellent condition of the game.
