and WTF? - is that realy a new valis? - i never got very far in the old games (they are on the back burner list) so i didnt expect to see those images - if something like that existed in the other titles.

Yeah, I'm a great Valis fan and I learned about this a couple weeks ago, it pissed me off hard. I mean, they're taking one of my favorite video game characters who used to be a way-cool monster fighter, and making her look all pathetic and droopy eyed with her sword up her #@%^&*, raped by everyone and their uncle with the humiliation that goes with that. (I'll never be able to empathize with how Japanese people enjoy rape so much) Being that it's from Telnet I'm assuming it's canonical, so Valis will never be the same to me. And I hate Telnet for that.

By the way, the art and chara design suck too.

No, it was just and awsome festival of anime lookin' warrior women killing monsters, my favorite subject.

$$$. They had the old Valis property lying around, so they figured they'd toss it to the perverts and make a quick profit rather than make another good game out of it.

They started on the old Japanese computers (MSX, PC-8801, Sharp X68000 etc) then went on to a Famicom port of Valis 1. (That one's neat, but the control is awful) I think Valis II was on the Sharp X68000, and later got a PC Engine SCD release. Then Valis III was released on the PC Engine, and later a Mega Drive port. Valis IV was then released for the PC Engine, and later butchered and ported to the Super Famicom. After this, they figured the first Valis game was kind of inaccessable (Only on obsolete computers) so they remade it for the PC Engine, and did a really good job. That one also saw a Mega Drive release. Somewhere in there is SD Valis for the Megadrive. The new game is for Windows.

There was also a short promotional animation for the Famicom game directed by Hideaki Anno (GAINAX director, GunBuster, Evangelion etc.) in 1986. I'm trying to get a copy, so far all I've seen is a guy selling a bootleg DVD on Yahoo Japan for US$100.00.

Not the CD-based games, and all the Valis games are CD based.
