IGN have posted a preview (http://ds.ign.com/articles/698/698833p1.html) of a new game heading to the Nintendo DS this May, called Over The Hedge. It is being done by the people who brought Spider-Man 2, Tony Hawk's American Skateland and Ultimate Spider-Man to the handheld, so it is safe to say it is in good hands!

According to IGN, the game is markedly different to that of the console versions also in development - which is, thankfully, the best way to tackle the DS. This game is also supposedly something of a sequel to the movie, though I had never heard of the film before today.

This Nintendo DS game plays like a cross between Tomb Raider and Metal Gear Solid, with a little Lost Vikings thrown in for good measure.

Sounds like a good mix to me! I've watched some of the videos (http://media.ds.ign.com/media/802/802587/vids_1.html), and it is certainly looking the part. An impressive framerate, good visuals (though basic textures, it would seem).

The game has that "cute and furry" stigma attached to it due to its license, but honestly, in our early hands-on with the game, Over the Hedge is challenging and original, and at the very least a technically impressive feat for the Nintendo DS platform. The game ships in May, but get a sneak peek at the early levels of the game by hitting the links below.

"Challenging, original, and at the very least a technically impressive feat" sounds promising. As long as it is fun, I'm a happy bunny!

This game has come out of nowhere! A few choice screenshots from IGN are below...

So, did you get excited for the Shark Tale game?
Not kidding anymore... why is this game going to turn out any different than any other recent game based on a CGi films centralized around personified animal characters?

That was my initial thought as well. It looks like a standard licensed title. I'm not entirely sure what's special about this one.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply it was special. I was merely bringing it to the attention of the masses, as it has come out the blue and looks kinda sparky.

I'm a huge DS fan. Even bigger than THATinkjar, but I still think it's gonna suck. I was very excited when I saw the screen shots, but then I took a look at the video and realized it sucks.

I actually think this one has promise, sort of a 3D Lost Vikings type of game. I would have no hope, but it is being developed by the team that did Tony Hawk DS which was very well done.

Exactly! These guys have been behind a couple of the better third party games. You have to give them the benefit of the down to pull out another surprise title, right?

From what I have read in the Official Nintendo Magazine UK and on IGN (and the videos I watched), I'm looking forward to this. It doesn't take much to raise this game above the rest, to be honest.

To all those who doubted my good taste... well... IGN have reviewed Over The Hedge (http://uk.ds.ign.com/articles/705/705380p1.html).

Yay! Seems really solid!

yay, w00t! Here's another game for me to catch up with...some many years from now... :/

Will have to file this one away in the back of my mind for now, but I'm glad you brought it up.
