I'm looking for who the guy is that made a hack of Super Mario Bros. I would ask over at Acmlm's but I'm not a member as of yet. The particular guy did something to do with ASM to the game that made it so every level was randomly something different everytime you played.

And I don't mean it had just different backgrounds but that the interactive stuff was dynamicly different everytime. I've looked at a few place for it and searched around without seeing it again. Someone please help find him because he should be known.

This sounds pretty neat. I'd like to play it too :D

Let us know if/when you find it.

yeah its like playing a new game everytime you turn it on. He did something to the game on accident that makes it do this and was suprised at the result himself.

So it will randomly play any level from 1-1 to 8-4? Or the levels are are just a jumbled mess or randomness every time?

That'd be kinda cool. Although I don't see how it'd work. You'd get some pretty messed up and unplayable levels if they were random.

each level, each time you played it, the levels would have different backrounds I believe. The amount of enemy, their type and position I think would be random (I remember bloobers going through the air on levels with no water). And also something about the obstacles to some kind of extent were different and new each time as well. No joke.

I'll break it to you this way... Not seeing how it 'd work is the beauty of it... The pleasure.... and I kid you not, it was never unplayably messy that I could tell. I'll look more. This isn't new either its a couple years old already. No one but the guy who created it could see how it worked and it was a mysterious happy accident to begin with. So it really is a rare thing that happened.

You can find lots of great game hacks from these 2 sites..

http://romhacking.deadbeat-inc.com/
http://www.zophar.net/index.phtml

The hacks are just patches so you will need the original rom to run the game. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately neither of those sites has even a minority of the SMB1 hacks out there. Of course most of them are just silly sprite hacks, but there's a lot of really good hacks that are pretty hard to find. I always wanted to put together a site that was totally dedicated to hacking Super Mario Bros. 1. It would offer all the necessary tools, have tutorials on how to do the different things required for a complete hack and of course offer patches for *ALL* the available hacks. It'd be sweet.

Until then, I highly recommend that people track down at least The Strange New Mario Bros., Luigi & The Christmas Quest and Peach's Nightmare. There's lots of good SMB1 hacks out there, but those are the coolest I've seen. If you find this one you're talking about, NintenDk, please post a link to it here because I've never seen it and it sounds cool.

Wasn't that one by DahrkDaiz (of Mario Adventure fame)?

...Yup, here we are. Seems he's taken down most of his website recently, but it's still at Archive.org.
