OK based on my research from the past 6 months, I've just upped the rarity rating of two Sega Genesis titles to a "7". THIS because I have not seen these titles anywhere.
1. Barbie Vacation Adventure
2. Simpsons: Itchy & Scratchy Show
Both of these games exist on Super NES and may also exist in Europe on Mega-Drive but I have not seen a Genesis version of either game. I'm asking that if anyone here owns one of these games (even just the box or manual) that they step forward.
For further information, see this research:

I have no tangible proof to send you, but I could point you in the right direction...
I know that GamePro Reviewed Itchy & Scratchy for the Genesis.
So if they reviewed it, wouldn't that make definite that it was relased? I would assume so, but don't KNOW so for sure...
So if you know anywhere you can find old GamePro reviews from around the time of it's relase, that should be a little help...
I could send a scan, but I lost all my GamePro magazines in a move...
Had complete collection of GamePro and GamePlayers for every moth between around 1993 and 1995...
well, it was only magazines... not the actual games!!!

Magazine reviews aren't good enough. Nintendo Power reviewed "California Raisins" for the NES and that didn't come out, why would GamePro be any different... keep in mind that magazines very commonly get beta versions of games so they can review it in time for its release.
I have an Itchy & Scatchy ROM so I know the game exists in some form, I'm just not sure that it was commercially released for the Genesis.

Barbie Vacation being a Sega Club title supports the rarity of it. Have yet to remember seeing Itchy and Scratchy in any capacity, but I may have passed it over, being it was a more pricey Simpsons license title.

I've seen the Barbie one just a couple of days ago. The thrift store wanted five bucks for it. So I skipped it. Damn.

You sure it was "Vacation Adventure"? Because the other Barbie (Super Model) is as common as dirt, and they're not very different looking from the packaging.

Ive been looking for Barbie Vacation for a while now on ebay (3-4 months) with no luck. Definately none local. Im fairly certain I remember seeing Itchy and Scratchy a while back on ebay but I could be wrong about that.
They deserve a 7 alot more than Genghis Khan 2 does.

For those of you who "think you saw it", just remember that these games were both available on Super Nintendo. And I don't know why the Barbie Adventure artwork looks "fake"... it looks more believeable than the Barbie Super Model box and THAT one is for real!
Another note: I've been collecting for Genesis from DAY 1 and have never encountered either of these games. They're 2 of the ... hmm, less than 20 now! Genesis titles that I need.

I have been working on and off at GameStop/ Funco for about 6 or 7 years and never come across either of those that I recall. I will try to keep a closer eye out but so far nothing has turned up on either one.
Joe, what genny games are you missing? Just curious, I can look for those too.

Believe it or not they're *mostly* sports titles, I'm not too concerned about filling those in (I saved the sports stuff for last), but AM concerned about these two. If they really do exist I'm gonna have some trouble since I've been hunting for so long and have yet to turn them up. I'm missing Aerobiz Supersonic and Miracle Piano too, but they'd be the only other "toughies" in the group. Oh yeah, and that Blockbuster cart.
Then again, one thing I've learned recently. WRITE about it in Tips & Tricks and suddenly things "pop up", like the Sonic Adventure Limited Edition I never thought I'd find. A few days after the column came out a handful appeared on eBay, some of them even citing the column!
Hmmm...

Barbie vaction adventure, exists......A local gamestore that I'm friends with here has trade in books that list anygame that comes through the store....The barbie Vaction adventure game was listed in their genesis section, so they've had it at some point in time, the itchy and scratchy game was not listed, which doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but has not been through any of their 6 stores. So Barbie exists, still a ? for itchy and scratchy here.

I just talked to my GameStop store and we don't have either game listed. I do not know of any list like the one you mention in any stores so I am curious what you mean by that. Regardless I would not constiture that as evidence of the games existance.

See this is always the dilemma of maintaining a list like the one we have online. No visual evidence. To me, this is is "hearsay". How do I know it wasn't entered incorrectly or wasn't the OTHER Barbie game? It's not that I don't believe YOU, but I really do need a little more proof. Like someone saying HERE IT IS [scan]. Thanks for the info though, always appreciated.

well, I know for sure is wasn't the other barbie game...they had them both listed and had the other one was in stock too....they're 2 different prices too, so I know they have the right one entered, as for it being entered incorrectly, that's a possibility....I'll probably go back and have them give me a call if another one comes in so that I can get hard confermation.

I would like to throw out something that hasnt been mentioned yet:
Isn't it possible that these two games were only offered on the Sega channel? and not for retail.
I know that the Itchy and Scrachy game came out for SNES, and another member said the barbie one did too. So is it possible that Sega recieved liscensing to play the game on the Sega channel, but that they game never came out for purchase?
This would explain why there are pictures of the game, and rumours of the game, but no evidence of an actual game cart.
I'm just thing that out there.

Is it possible? Yes. But not probable. :)

Not really. As previously discussed, games are often reviewed in magazines and have mobk up box art for promotional use. Like Joe said, until someone produces a scan of the actual carts/boxes everything is just hearsay.

For what it's worth, I have the Barbie Vacation Adventure rom on my Smashpack compilation disc. So it existed in some form, at least, for Genesis.

Got that too - as well as Itchy & Scratchy - but as I stated earlier, these could have been pre-release/beta/proto ROMS that were dumped, or may have even been Mega-Drive titles (I haven't investigated the latter option at all or know if they were released on Mega-Drive at this time).

Hey Joe, I live in Mid Michigan and visit the funco in saginaw alot. They recieved a huge lot of genesis titles from a store in Detroit shutting down. Since i dont really collect for the system my knowledge on rarity for it is not always up to par. I did however search through all of them and i can tell you i am 99.9999% positive i came across the itchy and scratchy title i remember picking it up and looking at it. The only reason i don't say 100% becausse i dont have it in my possesion, But i clearly remember the game. I know i don't have the proof but to my knowledge it is out there. I hope this helps you in some way. Sorry i could not give you proof.
Chris
Now i am on a mission to find out for you it is bothering me LOL
I am trying to contact acclaim on the matter and will keep searching. You will know if i find anything.

Just an update on my searching for the itchy and scratchy game. From the people i have contacted in my search they all make it sound that this game was released but still no real proof. As for contacting acclaim has anyone had the fun experience of contacting game companies and getting the most dumb answers you have ever read.
This is not my first experience of dumb people returning my e-mails from game company's. the e-mail i got back from acclaim had nothing to do with my question he was like " uh we no longer have this game for sale try searching the internet or ebay". I sent another e-mail and will make a phone call next. I will keep searching and will find out one way or the other what the deal is with this game.
Has anyone else found anything yet?

Speaking of unreleased games that were supposedly released...
I noticed on some Pack In Posters that came with Sega games 3 games that I have not seen ANYwhere else
B-Bomb
Jester
Young Indiana Jones' Chronicals (not Instruments Of Chaos)
I have found the rom for the Indy game, but Haven't seen hide nor hair of the other two... were they ever released even as beta copies anywhere?

I dont think this game exists for sega genesis, I think it was supposed to be released in 1994 and the upc code on the box was 087855000485. before the release date, sega creators went ahead and put screen shots and the cover picture in magazines along with reviews 'probably fake unless they came from the creator of the game' like they did with the majority of games they released and hyped up for sale. however it doesnt look like they ever actually released the game on genesis like promised, that happened with a few games actually. There may be some out there for the uk version megadrives, which would explain the screen shots and review found at the following link, they say it exists for sega genesis but I would be willing to bet they had a megadrive game if they actually played the game at all, not the us version that seems to be non-existant. check out the following link I found and maybe ask them if sega genesis made this, they gave a review and put up screen shots. I hope it does exist and I am wrong because I would love to own it if its out there but unfortunatly I beleive this one never actually made it to the store shelves:(
http://www.gamefabrique.com/barbie-vacation-adventure.html
oh yeah and the itchy & scratchy game was supposed to be released in 1993 and the supposed upc was 021481610021 for this one, although to the best of my knowledge this is another game they hyped up and then never put out either, infact ironicly this one was advertised the same time they advertised the barbie adventure game, if you look at the old promo posters- itchy scratchy game & the barbie game are advertised together, ironic or did they never come out for sale?
I am a collector of sega genesis games and I think I have every single one, including the 32x games like spider-man web of fire, and all of the bible tree games too. I saw someone mentioned aerobiz further down on this thread and I have seen it complete condition on ebay from a seller named 'videogames420' . I have shopped there before and found most of my rarest sega games by shopping with that particular ebay member.

I've been collecting for the genesis for ten solid years now, and I've never once seen a copy of Itchy and Scratchy for Genesis. I wasn't aware of the Barbie one, so I'd put a little more stock in that. I'll keep my eyes peeled now. Anyway, I'd tend to lean toward they both, or at least i+s never made it past the beta stage seeing as how other rare games, even popular ones, turn up once in a while/linger on ebay with high prices forever. Spider-man WOF? Chase the Chuck wagon? These are holy grail games and if you wanted to spend some money, you could have them on ebay right now. I'm not willing to rule out a coelacanth situation, but I think they would have shown up by now. On ebay.

Maybe because it was cart only, we all look for the game in complete shape.

Those games are just ROM dumps of proto games. There are tons of games like that we all played on our computers. I've been playing and collecting sega genesis games and these games were never seen or sold at any place in tri state area that I can remember. All these sightings remind me of those urban legends you always hear. A friend of friend or I glanced it at a store but didn't buy it etc.. Until pictures and actual gameplay is seen, I'll continue regarding these 2 games as protos and nothing else. Doesn't mean they aren't fun. Who knows, maybe the Barbie game is a blast haha

a five year old quote, awesome!
if this game store you are talking about is Slackers those books are not every game that has ever been traded in. the retro lists were stolen from Funcoland back in the day. Akira was listed for the NES as recently as 2 years ago.
