What has been the most dissapointing April Fool's relating to the game industry?

Mine was several years ago when EGM set up a website saying that Sega was getting rid of a stock of several hundred (or several thousand) Neptune consoles, and only for $199.99.

When you clicked to go through the checkout on the website it said it was April Fool's. :(

Offtopic: Does anyone know if a Neptune ever made it outside of Sega?

Im 99% sure that it never did, and the only one thats ever been "Seen" was just a mockup without internals.

EGM had some good ones. The Sheng Long trick, the Giga Intellivision, and the Sega Neptune were all pretty good. Didn't they do one for a nude code on Dead or Alive Volleyball and Tomb Raider?

I also remember the PSM one where they did a story on the first game to feature a nude female main character. I think it was called Valkyrie Wilde or something like that.

EGM's April Fools joke of 1994.

They spelled "Streets of Rage" as "Streeets of Rage" on the cover.

:hmm:

How about last year when they said if you pre-ordered Twilight Princess that you would get a copy of Wind Waker with TP graphics? I was so pissed off when I found out it was fake.

Well, if it's not real that Sonic Xtreme just leaked on the net...that would be a disappointing joke.

The Sheng Long trick

That was THE best. Egm had some good ones, but that topped it. The Simon Belmont in TMNT 2 one was pretty good, though.

I remember reading that Ed Semrad ripped people a new asshole for forgetting the April fools joke that year. Dude, the editor/boss is supposed remember shit like this, not the workers. Lol. I heard he could be a very hard and somewhat irrational guy to work for. I loved the old EGM with him, though. I always looked forward to his editorials.

I likes some of his editorials and alot of the time what he said in the little blurb in the front of the magazine was great, but when he was wrong he was *really* wrong.

I can tolerate EGM up until they went "Street Fighter 2 crazy", after that they were not 100% reliable as far as reviews.

Shen Long and Ermac were a couple of the best EGM ones.

Simon Belmont in TMNT: The Arcade Game was pretty good too.

The recent ones have been pretty easy to see through.

I remember the Shen Long trick. I also remember the Guile Handcuff trick for the home console in EGM.

Those were the days!!

And let's not forget the All-Bond Code for Goldeneye.

You Do know the real story about that, right? The whole EGM staff forgot to make a real april fool`s joke that year...so they found that mistake in the cover and said that was the april fool`s.....

Is there a word filter in place for apostrophe yet?

EDIT: Whoops, looks like there's one in place for filters now.

christhegamer

Yeah, I just noticed that theres now a filter for the word "april fools". I guess DP's idea of a prank is making everyone discuss International Tatting's without even knowing it.

lame.
