If this (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/699/699411p1.html) is an April Fools Joke, I will despise IGN for the rest of my days.

The article seemed to be rather hastily written, so it's kind of up in the air at this point. Even if it's not a joke, it doesn't really mean all that much. How many times did Halo 2's release date change?

Seriously, it was like 427 times. Give or take 3. March 07 isn't all that far off to start announcing a new game. Halo 2 hype machine ran almost 2 full years when the first CG movie hit to its release.

March of 07 sounds right, but I would expect that even that date will get pushed back.

Agreed.
Just expect to see some teaser footage at this years E3. Halo 3 is Microsofts juggernaut, you're gonna start seeing bits and pieces here and there come May. The March 07 seems about accurate, but hopefully we wont have to wait that long.

I'm sure there will be something new for us to gawk at. No one knows what to expect, ya know? That is kind of why everyone is excited about seeing just a little something.
Let's not make this into one of those cliché "Halo izteh gayyyy!!1" threads.

Surely they would want to get it out in the fall.

Microsoft has shown that they aren't interested in rushing development of their big games. They have taken their time with Rare and Bungie. Gears of War is going to be the big Thanksgiving game for the 360.

Concievably, a continuation of the story.

LOL RARE always "takes their time"
I expect Halo 3 to be released in the first quarter of '07 at the earliest

All bets are off on the release date until Peter Moore gets it tattooed on his buttocks.

In the latest Game Informer magazine I read that Bungie was sterring away from the title of Halo 3. They were starting some new project and was not sure of the title. It was pure speculation, but an interested read.

Did you play Halo 2? That thing was rushed horridly... I think there is a thread floating around on here about all of the stuff they had to cut out to make Microsoft's deadline (remember hearing about taking the fight to the Covenant, or playing on the moon?)
I really hope that Halo 3 is a big step forward, 2 was worse than the first in my opinion..

Welp. Guess I should get around to beating HALO 1 then...

Roffle at that.
Personally, I can't stand the Halo franchise. I would take Marathon over Halo any day. At least the Halo fans will be able to play Halo 2 on Windows Vista...when all of Vista's bugs and glitches are fixed.

But you did take the fight to the Covenant. You kind of slaughtered a small army on their capital, and took out two of their leaders.
I'd say that constitutes taking the fight :P
As for the moon bit, I think it was something with the lowered gravity not playing well with all that they wanted.
