I now know why the forums have been slow for a good part of the last 24 hours, though I haven't pinpointed the cause.

Our "Ultimate Game Room" pages are getting in unprecedented number of hits in a surge of visitors that began at around 7am EST yesterday, died down a little last night, and has picked up again big-time today. If a significant number of people are loading those large images simultaneously, it will affect our bandwidth - and that's what you're experiencing.

My best guess is that the page was featured on some prominent site, but I'm sure it will die down. We had the same kind of spike when Ariel Andrews' "nude" pictures appeared in a similar way, and heavy traffic bogged us down everywhere else as a result.

If anyone knows the source of this feature I'd like to see it! But in the meantime, hang in there, it's a very temporary thing.

FYI I took the Game Room pages down temporarily so we can actually enjoy "normal speed" for a little while. I'll put it back tonight.

I do remember seeing the GamesRoom link on a couple of UK boards I go to recently... though they aren't large volume boards so no huge amount of hits coming from them...

Well I "disconnected" those pages last night and we were flying again. Turned them back on when I logged off for the night. I'm hoping that gameroom external traffic dies down, we're really not ready for that kind of volume yet.

I'm not sure what host you use for digitpress.com, but if you have access to your web logs you should be able to check the referals on all those hits to the game room pages.

It'd definately be interesting to see where the traffic came from. :)

We host our own site!

But my admin is a rather busy fellow so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
