Does anyone have one of these? (Link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pocket-Famicom-Play-your-NES-games-on-the-move_W0QQitemZ8264863206QQcategoryZ3617QQssPageNam eZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem))
I'm tempted to buy one, but it's quite a lot of money to me. Especially considering I don't know much about it. Lik-sang are selling them for about the same price.
What's it like playing NES games on the small screen? Does it feel like good quality? Most importantly, is it really worth $70?

Something important:
+ It is handheld, so you can play almost everywhere
+ Needs x3 batteries
+ You don't have to buy Honey bee or other converters to play Famicom games on your NES
+ AV out to connect directly to a TV set
+ But NES > Famicom converter to play your NES games anywhere
+ Looks good
+ 2.5" LCD screen (DS has 3'')

I own one. They are nice and look good, but you're not able to play NES on it. It's too bulky:

Yes, it works. But it's not really portable. If you want to play NES games you should get a GB Micro or a GBA SP and a flashcard with PocketNES.

". If you want to play NES games you should get a GB Micro or a GBA SP and a flashcard with PocketNES."
How much does this end up costing? That would be awesome to be able to play NES games on a GBA SP. How many NES games can you hold on one flashcard?

Would you say it's worth the price? I don't have a NES console, so it would be something to play my six NES games on. £40 just seems a little high to me. Although, compared to ebay's NES prices, it's not too bad for a portable one. I have £15 in my paypal account from selling stuff, so considering what I paid for what I sold it wouldn't be a huge hit to my bank account.
What TV signal does it output? PAL or NTSC or both? My TVs don't support NTSC.
I put a cartridge up to my GBA and it doesn't seem too bulky, given the weight of the cartridge.
I think Cauterize bought one but he's never online any more.

I have one and the screen is to small and it blurs quite a bit.
I'd go with a GBA SP with the new backlit screen , a supercard and all the Nes roms you can find. :)

Here's a pretty good review at NES world...
http://www.nesworld.com/pockfami.htm
For the price they're not bad at all, more of a nice little pirate handheld to have for now and then. If there's one or two NES games you plan on playing a lot (and they are common) then remove the boards from inside the cartridge shells and use them like that with a converter. It will cut down on the bulk considerably, however this was really designed for Famicom cartridges and in that aspect, is one of the most cosmetically well designed portable Famicoms ever made. It's not bad at all, you can find it cheaper with a little looking around however. Also be sure to have some rechargable NiMH cells as battery life is short. If after reading the review above it still sounds good to you I'd recommend picking up a few Famicom games you like and maybe a priate Famicom multicart and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the link. They make it sound like it's not really worth £40. I think I'll pass on this for now.

It's cool for what it is and it a step in the right direction concerning the case styling of these pirate portable Famiclones. If you have the money to burn and some Famicom carts then it's a nice little collectable. It's not some expertly engineered piece of hardware though. Also NESWorld is a little harsh on some reviews. ;) $20 less and we'd all have one. LOL

Isn't this the one made in Brazil? I never thought this was a good idea because it looked like your precious cart would snap off if the wind picked up. Ultimately, if you don't already have a PSP, get that and add an nes emulator. Nothing beats playing NES games in widescreen!

You have to remember that this was never designed as a portable NES but rather as a portable Famicom - and it's decent for that application, better than most.

i have the game theory admiral. how does this compare? btw, even with an adaptor hooked up to an adaptor, i can get nes games to work on the gta fine, even when walking with it and the carts wobbling back and forth. i just wish the damn sound wasn't so shitty.

The screen is nicer and the sound is better on the Pocket Famicom. The GTA is REALLY bad compared to the PF.

If you already have a PSP you can emulate. It is absolutely incredible on that system.

It feels better than the GTA because of how the cartridges are more naturally inserted into the PocketFami rather than snapped atop the little GTA board. As jonjandran said the sound is great with the PocketFami. The big thing with the PocketFami is the better physical design over many of the portable Famiclones out there and the overall look.

Some of us like odd pirate stuff and playing physical cartridges. k thnx bye.

Also, some of us can't afford a £180 PSP. I'd probably get one if they were less than £100.
Like you said:

I'd definitely get a pocket fami if it was around £30.

Hmmm... any issues with playing with NES carts (games losing contact, not sturdy enough, etc)? I would use a Famicom to NES converter.

I read the link from NESWORLD and the review says that the GTA had a better screen (as well as better battery life). My gripes with the GTA is that the sound sucks (goes on/off, constantly fluctuating volume which goes into fuzz), and when playing on a TV, you notice that it runs slightly faster than it should with somewhat jerky motion. But on a small screen, you don't notice any of these things..other than the sound.

Well I hate to disagree but the GTA has less resolution and more blurring.

Yeah, you have to take the NESWorld information with a grain of salt. If you read through some reviews you'll see that there's a bit of backpeddling and inconsistency here and there.
