I've been a fan of TG16 since it came out, and I'm constantly impressed with the total accuracy of Magic Engine. What an amazing emulator. :)

It was pretty amazing for its time, but the author(s) never really did a very good job of updating it and squashing the bugs. The focus on the project over the last year or so has pretty much shifted totally away from the PCE and exclusively towards the PC-FX, which is a shame. Anymore I stick with just Mendafen when I need to play a PCE/PCE-CD game.

But yea...back when it came out, it was pretty damn amazing.

It's a nice emulator, it's just not cool that you have to pay to use the emulator for more than 5 minutes. Sure it's a one time fee, but it's just as bad as how some translation groups baisacly making someone pay for a ips patch.

You get what you pay for and it's still way cheaper than a TurboDuo.

I'm all in favor of people getting paid for their work... but emulators are kind of a grey area, since something like 99.999999% of emulator use is for illegal purposes. The vast majority of emulator authors have probably avoided law suits simply because they don't profit off of this stuff.

In any case, I only run Linux now, and there's no Linux version of Magic Engine, so any thoughts about paying for this are pretty much moot.

Actually, I'd be inclined to say that's a good thing. After all, there are a number of decent TG-16 emulators out there now, but where else can you get a PC-FX emulator? It's one of those systems that doesn't seem to get any emulation love primarily because no one cares about it, which is a shame.

I think it's worth the $16. The latest version is really nice and polished, and it works nearly 100% for me. I have a TG 16 and many HuCards, but this is much, much easier - and I can take it on the road with my laptop. :)

Magic Engine is AWESOME, even with the 5-min limit without buying it.

without Magic Engine, the only SuperGrafx game that I would've played would be the one I actually own, Daimakaimura aka Ghouls 'n Ghosts.

thanks to Magic Engine, I've been able to play Battle Ace, Granzort, Aldyness and 1941 Counter Attack.

not to mention hundreds of other PC-Engine ~ TurboGrafx-16 ROMS, plus all of the real CD-ROM2 and Super CD-ROM2 games that I own, so I don't have to use my TurboDuo.

I found this emulator online last night and it appears to be unlocked!!

I downloaded several games to try out and now I plan on getting into the real this soon!! This emulator is awesome and I like seeing the games look as good as they can be! VGA Blazing Lasers and VGA Spriggan are great!

:hmm: Bragging about the piracy of independently-supported software is not encouraged.

Yeah, as Jorpho said, please don't brag how you've found a comprimised key file - it's terribly bad form. Some of the much older versions (pre v0.9.0 - especially the DOS builds) are out there and cracked or never had the time limitation. I used to have the old DOS version of v0.9.0 as I used it on my underpowered laptop (120MHz) but I lost it to a reformat and never had it backed up. :( The MagicEngine site no longer offers this and requests for it were never answered - and I have a legally registered copy of v0.9.5.

If you like the emulator and plan on using it, then pony up the dough. Otherwise shut up. Sorry if that was harsh but come on, you KNOW it's a pay emulator - you're posting in a thread were we all mentioned it.

Ze_ro I think there's a port of Mednafen for Linux.. which blows away magic engine anyway I think.
