I have been thinking about updating my gameroom to the most modern it can possibly be, which of course would include buying an HDTV. I just so happen to have a 50 inch projection T.V that has component outputs. It is donwstairs, and we never use it. It is a Mitsubishi, its about four years old. If a T.V has Component outputs, would it be classified as HD? Becase If I could save my self a few thousand dollars I would be a very happy camper. And When I finally get a 360, will it be able to take full advantage of the HD potential of the console?

thanks in advance,
j

Unfortunately no. If it doesn't have that little Mitsubishi 1080i logo on it, then nope. It's most likely a 480i component input. Many non HDTV's have component inputs, it dosn't mean they do progressive scan 480p or 720p or 1080i.

Make sure you look at the front grill of that Mitsubishi. Make absolutely sure that you don't see any little Mitsubishi 1080i symbol. Or just get the model # from the back and do a google search.

If you think you might be playing HD DVD movies on it in the near or semi-near future, then be sure the TV has HDMI or DVI connections on the back. Apparently you need those for high def movies. (http://gear.ign.com/articles/691/691408p1.html) Games should still be fine without it, but you never know.
