anybody here own a copy of i.c.b.m. attack with the special controller? i'd like to see a pic of it. what is this item worth? could this seriously stand in the way of a complete astrocade collection for me? the dp entry says that rumlurs put production at only around 125 copies.

I sold one last year when I needed some money. I only had the game. I would post a pic but it is on my old hard drive which is not in my computer right now. Maybe the guy who bought it from me could post a pic of it. I didn't have the controller so it wasn't playable.

I'm also curious about this item. Mainly interested in what exactly the controller does differently from a standard Bally Pro Arcade controller.
If I'm not mistaken this game is sort of a Missile Command clone, right? Is the controller like a trackball or something?

Hi,
With respect to the number of ICBM Attack controller we made, it was about 100. I don't remember exactly.
We used 2 game ports and a radio shack joystick to act as the 'track ball' (the knob ports of the two hand controllers were the X and Y joystick values). There was a keypad that was wired up to the up/down, left/right switches and two 'pinball' buttons wired up to the two triggers.
The controllers were hand made in our basement.
When playing the game, the numbers 1, 2 and 3 on the keypad corresponded to the left, middle and right missile bases for firing. The joystick would move the cursor. The game was a little like ICBM attack, but only one bomb at a time. (Limited RAM and processing power...)
Hope this helps,

Thanks for posting Brett!
(I assume, though, that you meant "a little like Missile Command" in your last paragraph?)

(I assume, though, that you meant "a little like Missile Command" in your last paragraph?)Ah, yep. That's what I get for doing a quick post at work...
If there are any other questions, I can try to answer them. Besides having written ICBM Attack and Treasure Cove, I ended up working at Dave Nutting Associates (The division of Bally that did the Bally Arcade).
I'm working at Apple now...

hey brett, thanks for the response. i was wondering, i 125 an accurate estimate for the number of game/controller combos which were actually produced? i can only assume that many of these have gone missing over the years making it an even rarer find. i'm still curious as to whther or not anyone around here has got one, or knows anyone who does. i am still looking to get my hands on one.

Sadly I don't even have one. We sold everything we made...

this one's been for sale for years at this price:

the one mentioned a few posts above I think sold on eBay twice. Once for $100 or less buy-it-now (I'm still jealous/pissed about this) and then for more later (may also have been a buy-it-now). I've never heard of any others changing hands and I've never even seen a picture of the controller. I believe Mike White can make a copy of the game and someone has a made a version of the game that can be played with a standard controller.
