Yeah, it really depends on what I've sold or recently gotten rid of. I've found myself with a ton of PS2 games, but no PS2 (sold it), ditto with 'cube and Xbox. Reason being is that I need to cash from the system (to buy some game for god knows what), but plan to get another down the road.

Sure, that's happened to me plenty of times. Usually the games find their way out of my collection, though. Ive had some Atari 400/800 carts (eventually got rid of them), I still have an intellivision game and no Inty, I have some Duo games, I think I have an XBox game around here (have some demos, too), I had a 3DO game before I got the console, I had SMS games before I got a PBC, I've had 5200 games and no 5200, etc. Sometimes I hang onto the games if I plan on buying the system later on. Otherwise then eventually get chucked in my tradebox. I don't like having dead weight around here.

I have Shenmue #1 for my Dreamcast....played #2 on the Xbox, and when it came time to dump my Xbox I couldn't bear to part with this title....just incase #3 rears it's head and appears on my 360.

I had black and white Gameboy games without a machine....but last week I found a clean, complete GBA (box, instructions, baggies, blow-in cards...the works) so that I could play them. I'd been searching for a long time to find one that hadn't had the shit beat out of it.

I've got a sealed Myst Jaguar CD that I won in one of those eBay contests that DP had. The description said "Game" and I won it for a penny I think + shipping. I don't see a Jaguar CD in my collection anytime in the near future. I also own a copy of Heavy Unit for Japanese Mega Drive, but I don't have a convertor or anything.

A bunch of PS2 and Xbox games, PSX games, an American SNES game, SMS games, Game.com game, some Game Gear games, and some 64 games. I had to sell a bunch of my consoles in order to move across the country :(

The way I see it, the consoles will be a heck of a lot easier to replace than, say, a complete Phantasy Star.

I have all my Odyssey 2 games from when I was a kid, but my O2 died several years ago and I threw it out. I also still have all my NES games and accessories, including my ROB. But it was stolen around 1995. I just haven't got around to getting a replacement for either.

Somewhere along the way I developed the habit of trying to keep one game for each system I've ever owned even though my actual collection of systems is drastically cut down these days.

Even though I don't have any of those systems. I think that's all the cartridge systems that I used to own, but no longer do, except for the 32X. I also have a bunch of Playstation games, but those are for playing on my Dreamcast. And tons of Atari 2600 for playing on my Coleco, too.

Somewhere I think I also have a controller removed from an Intellivision system.

I bought two SF Anniversary pads for XBOX because they were super cheap, and I don't have an XBOX. I might use them on my PC, but I'll probably just sell them.

I like hoarding cheap games for systems I don't own yet but plan on picking up.
Last year I scooped up any decent GC game I could find for under $20, and was waiting for a LoZ:TP console bundle.
When the game got delayed, I just bought a GC and played the dozen or so games I'd been hoarding for it.

I'll probably do something similar for PS3.

I just remembered the time I picked up My Hero for SMS, which I hadn't owned in years, just because it was cheap(~$5), it was mint, and it had the best cover art ever.
The box art just had a pic of a hand holding the card, and the card had a picture of some dude with a mohawk getting punched. I gave it to a friend as a joke gift shortly after I bought it, but he doesn't a SMS either.

i first did this with PS1. bought a few mega man games considering at that time, these had a tendency to go out of print and become $$. never happened, but i did purchase a PS1 about 5 years later. the only system i own games for that i do not own a system to play them on yet would be...xbox.

The only 2 systems I have games for and no system are Atari 5200 (2 games) and Sega CD (4 games). I do own like 6 32X games and a partially working 32X add-on. It doesn't show the front sprite layer so I still need to either:
1) Somehow fix it.
2) Throw a few bucks into a new one.

I did purchase a Gamecube controller nearly a year before I ever owned the system. It is a 3rd party G^3 purple controller that was on sale for $5. I couldn't pass up that deal, plus it had the expansion cable. I used it at friends houses that had the system already, and when I finally got a cube system it became my main controller.

Heheh, yeah. I also own about 25 2600 games, a Neo Geo CD game, a 7800 game, and an Intellivision game, but none of those systems. I'll get them eventully, though I'm sure it'll take me a while to get around to that Neo Geo CD.

I think its easy to own a bunch of games and not the system. Because a console is usually not as rare as a single game might be. I own about 6 xbox games, 5 of them being Sega developed. This is my only reason to buy an xbox, is to play sega exclusives that I couldn't play on another system.

So I am waiting for xbox's to drop to rock bottom prices and then I will snatch up one to play a handfull of titles.

Finally, the highlight of my moot collection - a European PS2 but no power converter to use it in the US. A friend of mine was given it because the owner couldn't get it to work on his US TV. I plan on eventually mod-chipping it, but that's pointless until I can afford a power converter!

I have a Neo Geo CD game thinking that I was going to get the system, but I doubt that now as I have 2 AES systems and 3 MVS boards (1 slot, 2 slot, 4 slot) and 2 cabs and 3 superguns to play them on. I don't even know where the Neo Geo CD game is anymore although I'm sure its just around. I also had a ton of Famicom games and Atari 2600 games with no systems as they broke but I still kept the games. Although recently I got the Neo Fami that plays Famicom games (4 Neo Fami systems total and a Generation NEX) and a 2600 from an online store so I now have the systems again to play my games on.

I never do get around to buying a lynx game to test it..
