I was looking to get both of these systems. I don't want the hassle of an old Nes though. I guess my question for the Nes is, is the Generation Nex thing any good? Also, I have never played a Saturn, thus I don't know what kind of games were made for it. My favorite type of game is an RPG, so my question for this system is; are there alot of RPG's for this system and were they any good.

The NES usually requires you to blow in carts repeatedly to get them to work. Original NES systems are more of a hassle than the famiclones, but more official.

The Saturn has a crapton of RPGs. They're jsut expensive.

Dragon Force, Shining Force III, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Albert Odyssey - all very expensive games.

They are made of awesomeness few games can match - or so I hear. Dragon Force was awesome for me, and I've heard nothing but praise for all* of the Saturn RPGs.

*Not Ronde or other crappy games I've forgotten.

metalichris, you'll get more responses to your post if you truncate that huge link in your first post. Until then *passes over with many others*

generation nex's value is much debated. the design is solid, but it's all centered around a NES-on-a-chip, an inferior chip popularized in famiclones that replicates the NES's architecture but not well enough to play some pirate games, as well as late release games that used complicated mapping.

as for an original NES they're great. all my games start up on mine every time. you can get tips on how to clean and refurbish your NES from a lot of places. once you've got a working NES the important thing is to put only clean games in it and you'll never have a problem.

saturn's great for RPG's but if you're on a budget you won't be very pleased with the going rate for most RPG offerings.

It isn't my auction. My username is chall25635 on Ebay. I was just stunned at how much that game was going for.

That doesn't matter, you need to truncate the POSTED link, like this...

LEFT BRACKET, url, =, PUT THE FULL URL, RIGHT BRACKET, TEXT YOU WANT DISPLAYED, LEFT BRACKET, /, url, RIGHT BRACKET

Hover your mouse over the URL button when posting and look at the second option, that's what you do for truncated links.

Then you'll get something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/Legend-of-Legaia-NEAR-MINT-RARE-COMPLETE_W0QQitemZ8272045893QQcategoryZ62053QQrdZ1 QQcmdZViewItem).

I'd say, yeah, get the Generation NEX. I actually haven't used one myself, but all the complaints I've seen about the system are actually complaints about the NES-on-a-chip architecture and I have used those. It's really very few games that aren't compatible with it. Mostly Koei's strategy-sims and Castlevania III (actually, I have a Famiclone that does work with Castlevania III, but the NEX doesn't apparently). Even though Castlevania III is a great game and so are the Koei games if that's your thing, I think those are minor losses compared to how cool the NEX system is otherwise. The other thing about the NES-on-a-chip is that it does a pretty poor job of replicating the sound in some NES games. It's not bad, but things are noticeably muddled sometimes. The NES didn't have good audio to begin with, in my opinion, so I don't think it's any great loss.

As for RPGs on the Saturn, there's some good ones, but actually comparatively few traditional turn-based affairs like there's so many of on the SNES or Playstation. There's more of them if you get into Japanese imports, but then of course the story is gonna be in Japanese. One good one that hasn't been mentioned yet is Legend Of Oasis. A great action-RPG and not that expensive, either. I personally wouldn't buy a Saturn just for--or even primarily for--the RPGs. The Saturn's real strength is in shooters, fighters, puzzlers, arcade conversions generally and the random uncategorizable gems.

as far as i have heard - the neo fami is the best nes clone
and i think its 50% of the price of the generation NEX

if you have a playstation there is a saturn RPG that was ported to it and released in the US -- Grandia

Concerning the Saturn, it's more of a shooter and 2D fighting game fan's dream. There are also the usual Saturn ports of Sega arcade hits of the day, stuff like Daytona USA and VirtualOn. While the ports of those games might not look super detailed graphically now days, they all play great. With a US / JPN hardmod the system opens itself up to MANY Japanese 2D fighting games (and a few good 3D ones) and a healthy assortment of Japanese shooters.

Initializing fanboy engine...

SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI: NOCTURNE, YOU FILTHY LIAR!

Terminating fanboy engine...

What? I like Nocturne a lot.

Joking aside, the Saturn has Fighters Megamix and Darius Gaiden, two totally awesome games if you like fighters and shooters.

I personally would say go with a Saturn 100%. It's one of my favorite systems and enjoy it all the time. It has a ton of great 2D games if you're into that nice sprite feeling. The RPGs are really nice but are expensive for most of them. If you come across the system, get it! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

As for the NES, I don't know much of anything about the Nintendo Nex system, but go with the original if you must. So many of the clones are tempting with top loaders, being smaller, ect. but since my friend got some small purple one and saw how some of my games were so glitched on it, I have said no to them. I'm sure others on here appreciate the clones, and that's alright.
