So, anyone looking forward to picking up the 360 version of FFXI this month? Im pretty sure it's out on the 14th, so it's getting close! Anyway, if anyone is getting the game, maybe we could use this thread to post all of your information and stuff.

We could even add it to the DP Live Crew's XBL game list.

I am still unsure if I want to get it. I retired from the PS2 version about 8 months ago, and had several high level characters (67 BRD is my highest), but the 3 new jobs make getting it very tempting....idk....another monthly fee...inflayed gil prices, heck I dont know.

Beta = Shit.

No offense to Square-Enix and they're ability to make a game, but not integrating voice chat or Live friends lists was a stupid idea.

Wah? This game won't support voice chat???

I agree that being able to have a full party with voice chat would be awsome, however having voice chat outside of battles would become annoying REALLY fast. I could see it now, 100 kids screaming TELLEPORT-HOLLA 500 GILZ /tell!

Well yeah that would be stupid. All the game really needed was a chat option between party members.

No only will it not fully support voice chat, but there are also no achievement points to earn for playing it, for those of us who try to earn them. Darn, I always wanted an achievement for getting all jobs to lvl 75 :(

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME? No one if gonna buy that game. I need achievements and everyone else does too. Square fucked up on this. The graphics looks like the PS2 version on a good tv.

Yeah the beta sucked big time. Also I don't like a crappy game taking up 6 GB's on HD.

well the beta sucked because it was over populated. The lvling up areas had like 100-300 people in them at a time, while in the normal version there were maybe 5-10 people leveling in one area at a time. Beta just had too many people. Also I saw a slight difference when running the game in HD compared to the ps2 version, however the small text and window boxes sucks.

Agreed.

You have to keep in mind that that was the beta version people.

Yes, Square really fucked up when it came to the achievement points on this one. But, that is one flaw that some could care less about. If you are a level 75 character and want to show it, people will see it in a mmorpg. That's just the way it is.

I will be picking it up, just cause I am in the mood for a mmorpg, and I can't afford to spruce up the ol' pc here. So im sticking with my 360.

...cause im a whitey.

Agreed. And thank you for reminding me I had it installed. For the last week I've been at like 8 GB free, even with all the demos deleted.

I played the beta for maybe two days and realized that it's much worse than Lineage II on a pirate server. So I should play L2 instead.

No....achievement....points?????

DOES NOT COMPUTE. ERR0R. ERR0R.

but in all seriousness, I was considering buying it, but it all depends on the monthly fee in the UK. If it's cheap enough, I'll consider it... but the thought of putting all that work into a game and not getting any achievements???
Ouchie

Well, since it doesn't seem like anyone here has actually played the final release...I'll add my two cents.

I'm having a fairly good time with it. I've been getting back into 2D fighters lately, so that is stealing some of my time, but I am at level 5 as a Red Mage on FFXI at this point.

Here's a summary:

Graphics are okay. Just ported from PS2

Gameplay is pretty fun so far. Leveling up has been at least halfway interesting. Just the normal early grind...

The systems and menus are pretty well designed.

It does suck that there are no achievements. I thought MS had a policy that ALL games had to have achievements???

I was interested in this game for a bit until I remembered that there was a monthly fee. Couple that with the lack of voice chat, and suddenly the game does not look appealing at all.
I don't mind the lack of acheivement points, it's really the lack of voice support that kills it for me. Unless you can plug in a USB keyboard to chat... But even then, I'd much prefer to use the headset.
Oh well..

I use a wireless USB keyboard plugged into one of the front ports. Works great.

I really don't see how voice chat could add to a MRPG. Sure, I can see it being useful on a party basis, but my God the chaos in a town would be enough to drive you crazy.

Besides, I prefer people type out their comments anyway, rather than have to hear the stoner voice that most people put on. Plus, most people are too lazy to to type out cursewords as often as they yell them out...

I've got it and I love it. My 360 friend and I do voice over private chat when we play and it works out pretty well. Honestly, I really don't want to listen to most of the people I run into on any game and I often play other games without the mic. The achievements are missed to a degree and so is Tetra Master. Am I the only one who liked playing Tetra Master?

But I'm also really loving Perfect Dark Zero so maybe I just have bad taste.
