I know a lot of xboxes have issues with this, but I don't feel like digging through 5+ years of misc posts to find the best, most up to date answer :)

Is using a cd-rw the best way to get a burned audio cd to work on my xbox? Modding is out of the question, though I can connect it to my network if there is a way to do it directly via ethernet.

Any help appreciated, yes, I'm behind the times on the xbox lol. I just got one for my birthday.

The consensus seems to be that you need to use CD-RWs. I haven't tested this yet, as I don't have any lying around, nor do I have any games that I feel like building a custom soundtrack for. My XBox is a Samsung drive as far as I can tell, and it doesn't like plain old audio CD-Rs one bit, so I'm assuming it needs the CD-RW treatment.

For MP3s:

You can buy the Xbox Music Mixer (or whatever it's called), and get a separate program for the computer(it's mentioned in the Music Mixer manual), then connect the PC and Xbox with a crossover cable.

Kinda sucks for naming purposes, but it'll transfer them over no problem.

CDRs:

The CDRW trick does work.

CD-R's work fine for me (Philips drive).

However, I can never just copy the music when I first put it in. It never recognizes it to copy music until after I play it as a audio disc, then I can exit and go to the part of the dashboard where you copy tracks to the hd and it works fine.

i've seen thompson drives that won't read retail so i'm not surprised to see a thread like this, my samsung drive accepts both cd-r/cd-rw just fine, and so does my philips drive, for the record i burn at 4x or less on maxell media (used to use Gigastorage but they aren't around anymore) using mp3's at 128kb/s, normalizing volume, using Nero. ;)
