The Simpsons bonus stage?

Can anyone remember the bonus stage in the Simpons ever AWARDING points? Or was it just for show?

Or maybe a dipswitch setting? I'm playing it for the MAME League and was curious that I was never awarded points for the stage, even if I did win.

only the Japanese version gives you points I think on the bonus stages, the others just give you life back since it's not automatically restored between levels (I think)
