Okay, here's a true little yarn from the other day. I walk into a local Salvation Army and see a few Genny and Nes titles. There's also this 8-10 year old kid who grabbed a couple NES games, and we said Hi. So, I pick out 2 games I want (a complete Madden94 and a complete Fifa97) and go to pay. The games are $4 each, so I'm out $8. After talking to the woman at the register for a minute, I'm struck by this feeling that I should check out the rest of the store, in case their's some hardware in the back. Sure enough, after rummaging through the electronics I find it--- a SNES console. One green console w/good looking contacts. I flip it over and it says $8 -"check for parts" -- now I'm psyched -they have the cables/controllers! Here's where I make my fatal mistake. As I'm walking back up front, I pass the same kid, who's still in there with his mom and her friend, for some reason, I hold up the SNES and say "Hey, Ya missed something" to the kid. Now, his mom wheels around and says something like "No way, you've gotta be kidding me. Plus the kid looks genuinly sad. Then she says "We've been looking for one of those systems forever, he's dying for one, can I pay you not to buy that?" I wanted to say either "Sorry, NO", or "Go to gamestop and look there." But I remember we're in a Salv Army so of course instead I look at the kid and say "Is this true-do you have games for this?" Naturally, he says yeah and by now the women are digging for cash. Mom pulls out 3 ones and I kinda hem/haw then friend lady whips out a five and I hand over the SNES for $8 total. I should have felt good to break even for my games and make a kid happy at the same time --right? Well I did a little, but mostly I was just pisssed that I'd let one of my best thrift finds slip away. I guess the moral is "Never expose your finds until the deal is done" or something like that ----OUCH! (ps -I'm definitely goin to heaven for that one) right?

Ehh, SNES at a salvation army is not really all that great of a find. I would have just given it to the kid for nothing. Hell, a certain salvation army I go to always has these systems...they had three last week...and a Jaguar...and 2 NES systems...and 2 Genesis systems. I picked up the Jag and 4 games there, and left the other systems be. I have been back there 3 weeks in a row ad the same systems are STILL there :)

Are you saying you let people in a Salvation Army store pay you not to buy something? Wow. I would have just handed the console over and said happy gaming, no hesitation.

thats pretty evil, taking $ to not buy something after making fun of a little kid, if your older than 12 you should be embarrassed.

You should of gave the SNES to the kid. SNES are easy to find. Taking the money was just wrong.
