Recently I wanted to play through Super Mario RPG for like the 15th time, but wanted to do it faster so I turned to my trusty Game Genie. None of the codes I tried worked and I wondered why. Then, I found out the answer. I forgot that the Super Mario RPG cart had the two extra connector tabs and thus wouldn't work with the Game Genie since it doesn't have the aforementioned connector tab contacts. Now, was there any other version of a Game Genie that fixed this or is Super Mario RPG just one of the games taht just ain't compatible with it at all?

Isn't it the games with the SuperFX chip that has those tabs? I wonder if the GG could still work if your were able to adapt a GG to have a passthrough for those.

Super Mario RPG uses the SA-1 chip, so unless you modify the game genie so the extra connectors are well, connected, it won't work. Due to a design flaw, any game that uses the auxiliary connectors will not work with the Game Genie. These include any Super FX games, C4 games (Megaman X2 and X3, I believe), and some DSP games.

Was the Game Genie designed and marketed -before- any games which required the extra connectors were released? Hrm.

Pilotwings and Mario Kart were DSP games that were pretty much out at the system launch, so I would be inclined to say no (unless neither of those used the extra connectors).

You could try emulation. Load up Mario RPG on your computer and put in the codes there.

Yeah, I think that is the case.

I'm fairly sure those are normal carts, not three-pin carts.
The first one I ever saw was Star Fox...

You *might* be able to get it to work if you have a SNES Honeybee converter. Plug the game into the Game Genie, and plug that into the top of the Honeybee. Then plug another game into the back of the Honeybee. Try it out and see what happens. If you use another game that has the extra connectors as the pass-through to get the game to work, it might make it work with the Game Genie. Or it might not work at all. But if there's no codes for the game that you're trying to get to work, it's pretty much useless anyway. So I'd look to see if there's any codes for it first.

No it wouldn't work, because the side connectors need to be hooked up through the game genie itself. The reason why it doesn't work is because you need to bridge some wires to make them connect to your snes.

Waiting for someone to do a hack for this... :D
