I'm addicted. Ever since I played FF tactics not too long ago, I've been searching High and Low for any Srpg. Can you guys reccomend some of your favorites, or upcoming games?

The Genesis is home to a few classics. There's the somewhat arcahic Shining Force, the still brilliant (although lacking in actual strategy) Shining Force II, and the ever difficult Warsong (the 1st and only Langrisser title to get a U.S. release).
The PS1 & PS2 have tons of them. As far as the PS1 goes, i've only played a few. Front Mission 3 is a must have for any fan of the genre. I recommend Vandal Hearts as well. Vandal Hearts II is okay, but the annoying addition of the enemy moving a character the same time you move one of your own leads to a lot of frustration and numerous attacks at thin air. The only other one I've played, Saiyuki: Journey West, is decent, but nothing special. I've heard great things about Tactics Ogre, which is a port of the SNES game (never got a Western release on this system). Quest made FFT, and since you fell in love with that game, I'm sure you'd love Tactics Ogre.

Well, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness on the PS2 is the best SRPG ever, and its sequel comes out rhis August. For that matter, all of the Nippon Ichi SRPGs are good.

I'm not hardcore into the genre but I really liked Vandal Hearts and GBA Fire Emblem.

I know I'm in the minority, but I like SRPGs, yet I hate Disgaea.
Well, I don't hate the dialogue, but I hate the gameplay. It's terrible.
Try the Shining Force games, Fire Emblem games, Front Mission games, few others.

Dude, it was the first map. Warren's castle is a tutorial level. You can't possibly think you got a good impression of the game after the first of many, many battles.

What systems do you have?
Vandel Hearts, FF:Tactics on the PSX
Shining Force III, Blazing Heroes (Mysteria) On the Saturn
Fire Emblem Games
Although not a SRPG in the truest sense, Dragon Force on the Saturn is a fantastic Role Playing game, that is very different from most other games.

I loved Kartia The Word of Fate and Brigandine for the PS1 and I second the Shining Force(s) nomination. Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn,....hell even the Game Gear release is the bomb!

My wife and I are huge sRPG fans. If you like the original FF Tactics, you will ove FF Tactics Advance. She got into Ogre Battle for the GBA too.
I personally like alot of them and also recommend the Shining Foce games. Disgaea, Phantom Brave, La Pucelle Tactics are all from Nippon Ichi and I liked them alot.
Hoshigami is O.K., but Vandal Hearts is quite good.
Have fun!

I've tried to play a few, but the only 2 that really grabbed me were Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea. Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorite games ever. Disgaea is really good and you should check it out, but the game is really easy and the storyline is cute and shallow (occasionally funny).
Others I've tried and couldn't get into: Hoshigami, FFT advance, Tactics Ogre GBA, Kartia, Mystaria, Front Mission 3. Out of those I put the most playtime into Hoshigami and Tactics Ogre GBA.
You should really try out Disgaea. The game has strategy, but a different kind of strategy. The strategy lies in exploiting the game. You have to play it to see what I mean, but you'll constantly be finding new ways to cheat the system. And it is done in a way that it had to be made this way on purpose. You could also spend a lifetime tweaking your characters.

Disgaea is a really fun game. I must have played through it at least 3-4 times. another good one is Stella Deus. Nothing can beat FF tactics though :D

Here's another vote for Disgaea, Front Mission 3, and Fire Emblem. The two Super Robot Taisen GBA games are coming out in the US as well, so keep a lookout for those. And if you're looking for somethign different, Rebel Star Tactical Command for GBA is supposed to be very fun as well.
Front mission 4 is one of my favorite ps2 games, my first playthrough took about 80 hours and i loved every minute of it, Front Mission 5 is tops on my want list for this year, the series had me finding the rest of them previous ones just to sate my thirst, as close an expierience to Mech commander as i could get on a console with an interesting dual-storyline.

Another vote for Disgaea. Just make sure you don't use a FAQ the first time through or else you'll be too focused on fucking with the character creation trying to get whatever optimal character the FAQ tells you to get to actually enjoy playing through the game yourself.
It's not a very difficult game but it does tend to encourage powerleveling (more like mega super ultra power leveling, am i right or am i right?). There's no reason to spoil anything with a walkthrough the first time through the game (new game+ for the win!).
I'd like to also through a shout out to Rebelstar Tactical Command for GBA. It's a little heavier on the strategy but you can assign points to various abilities when your characters level up, allowing you to craft their development any way you want. It's a bit clunky and slow on the real hardware, so I'd suggest throwing it in an emulator and getting familiar with the fast forward key to blast through those slow enemy turns :) (it's also from one the designers of X-Com, if that means anything to you)
I always disliked the ultra small maps of Final Fantasy Tactics and prefered Tactics Ogre to it, but now I can't really stand either one anymore. :(
Also more on the strategy side is the most excellent Warsong for Genesis.
I've been wanting to play Cyber Knight I and II for a while now.. I hear they're quite pimptastic.

Seconded! I picked up the japanese version when it rolled out because the week before a local gamestore had a demo running and it looked really sweet/interesting (....plus the intro was magically delicious) and found the unique combat system to be really well done. The language barrier wasn't even that bad for it.
Ended up eventually picking up and playing through the US version for the storyline and loving it to bits all over again.
I'm probably due for another playthrough sometime this year :)
