Not all that funny, nor technical. :/ Besides, like 30% of the posts I read concerning NES games or other early cartridge systems have at least one person chime in how they blow in the carts to this day. Not proper but very widespread.

I am not under the belief that blowing in games is such a bad thing. They should be cleaned with alcohol first of all, but if that doesnt work by itself a good blow can make it work. I bet any grime that gets on the connectors can just be cleaned off again if necessary.

Which is why I charge $$$ to clean NES games that don't work in my refurbed NES's. When it's covered in mold and green tarnish, it's strangely no longer conductive. LOL

I'm usually rather proud of my "working" NES, but I had a hell of a time getting 1943 to work yesterday. Nowadays I think it's the connectors getting bent down, but I gave 1943 some good scrubbins with alcohol, and from then on I had to reseat it a few times but it finally kicked in.

While we're on the subject, what do you clean your games with? I use 91% Isopropyl alcohol, but I've heard that can corrode the contacts over time. I hear diluting it 50/50 with water is the way to go, but I've also heard that funk will grow on them if you do that.

I have this heavy-duty flux remover at work called Pro-Clean, that stuff is magic. I'm trying to figure out how I can hork a bottle for myself.

Disassembly and a fiberglass brush will remove all foreign matter safely.

Strange, I recently got 1943 for NES and had the exact same problem. The Game Pak looked to be in great condition, but the connectors were horribly dirty. It finally works OK now after 3 or 4 scrubs with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and 2 scrubs with Goo Gone. What a lot of work for a $5 game, but its fun to play it now!

Why hasnt anyone suggested a WHITE ERASER!
Open up the cart, and erase the shit off of the contacts.

Compare this method to goo-gone or alcahol; it gets the job done twice as fast, and twice as good. :-P

Now if only I could find my star-bit so I could follow my own advice... :beaten:
