A new editorial is up on PWOT, A Fanboy Intervention (http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/games/fanboy.html). It's a pretty interesting read, though some of the numbers being quoted are questionable.

Lot of Revolution/Nintendo bashing. I think he's pissed cause Nintendo is doing very good.

The "Iwata" on his sign is Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. So there you are, cheering on a man who doesn't know your name and is glad he doesn't know it. A man who matches your yearly income in the split second it takes him to whoosh into the air on his Kyoto-bound gold-plated Jetpack.

LOL

but seriously that guy doesn't seem to understand nintendo fans at all even thought thats what his article is supposed to be.

Aww. And you were doing a good job covering up the fanboyism recently, too LOL They're not losing money, but you totally missed the point of the article.

Edit: Scratch that, it's not fanboyism, just stupidity. That comment of yours really isn't relevant.

I found the CNN article The Sony Emotion Engine: Will PlayStation2 replace your PC? (http://archives.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/02/01/emotion.engine.idg/), and it's hillarious:

Developed by Sony and Toshiba, experts predict the high-tech processor will offer unprecedented gaming power. More importantly, it could provide the processing power for the PlayStation 2 to challenge cheap PCs as the entry-level device of choice for home access to the Web.

How adept is it? According to MicroDesign Resources, the processor can handle 6.2 gigaflops at 300MHz. A single gigaflop equals one billion floating-point operations per second. MDR says that makes the chip two times faster than a 733-MHz Pentium III
Oh man I bet Microsoft is really worried about that

Edit #2: The one thing that struck me as totally off-base, even for a joke, was the comment they threw in (under the guise of "we won't mention it") at the end:

we never pointed out that the Revolution is the first console in history that can be played while masturbating.
That's wrong, of course, given that the Atari 2600 can pretty much be played with one hand.

It's a lot of anti-Nintendo rhetoric with very little basis in fact. Here are his points - sorry it's long, but for some reason people love bashing Nintendo but never seem to do articles like this on Microsoft or Sony...

1. Brand loyalty is a mental illness
Not true in this case. Most of us support Nintendo and root them on due to their games, not just their name. Excitment over Zelda or Mario is no different than rooting on the newest Harry Potter flick or Steven King book.

2. Pre-release hype lowers your IQ
He then quotes cnn.com type of stuff. Pre-release information is fun. Just like all media, there is good and bad.

3. We must love one without hating another
True to an extent. I shouldn't dislike Xbox FANS, for example. But, it is a business world, and if people won't buy an Xbox or Sony due to dislike of business practices, that's their decision.

4. The "Download Older Games" service will make the Revolution worth owning...
Goes onto say that all worthwhile NES/SNES games have already been rereleased, which is completely untrue. MANY of the best games are still not easily available, and the experience of a rerelease on a GBA does not equal a console on a TV. And MANY games never had access to a TG16.

5. Nintendo Doesn't Love You
I wouldn't say Nintendo LOVES gamers, but they really do go out of their way to treat existing customers better than most other companies. Their customer service is the standard that I judge all other companies.

6. Nintendo Doesn't Need You.
Yes, they do. Expanding their audience is PART of their plan, not the whole thing.

7. Nintendo Doesn't Want You.
Yeah - this is complete BS. If they didn't want gamers to play, then explain Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Advance Wars, or even the new look for the Cube Zelda, a direct response to feedback from fans.

8. Be Honest About Your Needs
I need to have fun. I don't need the greatest graphics that I'd only appreciate on a more expensive TV.

9. Yes, I know it will be cheaper...
He goes on to talk about inflation and how older systems were just as expensive, bla bla. Inflation is a valid point, but what he doesn't mention is that budgets for entertainment are split in more directions now - home theaters, DVDs, cable TV/satellite, etc are all fighting for family budget money. Being less expensive helps get the system into the door.

10. No console is worth buying on launch day
Nintendo systems generally are solid systems that run on launch. Sony has a lesser track record, Microsoft has been better except the 360 overheating, but that's not even hugely widespread.

11. Nintendo will never be #1 again, and doesn't want to be
Nintendo would like to be #1 again - who wouldn't? They're #1 in handhelds, and I'm sure if the Revolution takes off, they would love to be #1 again. Truthfully, with the crazy DS sales, I wouldn't be surprised to see Nintendo hit the top spot in Japan.

12. You're not alone
The point of this number? To try to limit how many flames they get from 1-11. They even say it's time to grow up. I don't get this - we get older so we HAVE to move on to "mature" games?

Crappy editorial...I have no doubt that there are flaws in Nintendo's plans. Everyone is free to have opinions, but at least have educated ones.
