It's obviously just a rumor, but this would be HUGE. It's the sort of thing that would be momentous enough to move Microsoft that much closer to (if not past) Sony.

I for one hope this is true.

I really do not see this happening. Rockstar is a third-party developer and to limit themselves to one console would be a mistake. They have more money to gain by making the game for every system and possibly an "enhanced" version for the X360.

On a side note, did you read about the Halo MMO game?

I thought sony had a "1 year" headstart with the GTA games for at least 5 games or something.

If this is true, then the deal should almost be completed. They already have four games out for the PSTwo system (GTA3, GTA: VC, GTA: SA, and GTA: LC).

Not sure what the last game in the deal would be unless you count the GTA pack that was released on PSTwo.

I doubt it

it would be a big mistake for rockstar to do that at least IMO

Well, you really can't say that it would be a "big mistake" for Rockstar, or that "They have more money to gain by making the game for every system and possibly an "enhanced" version for the X360. " *IF* this is true, Rockstar didn't do it for free. Microsoft would have had to pay them some big $$$ to make it an XBox exclusive, and they would have plenty of incentive to do so. It would be a system seller. They have already beat Sony to market. Now it appear that the PS3 MAY BE up to 1 year in coming, giving MS a 16 month head start. Couple that with the first next-gen GTA game being a 360 exclusive, and Microsoft could be well on their way to #1.

Off topic, I predict that Microsoft will give the 360 it's first price drop right around the time the PS3 comes out. By that time it will have been out for over a year, so a price drop would not be unheard of.

I have always been a Playstation man all the way, but Microsoft has the opportunity right now to unseat Sony, especially if the Revolution is a big hit.

You'd be a fool not to expect to see it on 360, but definitely not exculsive.

On the contrary, I think this would be an excellent move for them. With all the signs (at least potentially) pointing to a changing of the guard between Microsoft and Sony in terms of console dominance, it would be very opportune for Rockstar to follow suit and go with the 360 as its console of choice. I'm of the belief that the 360 is a superior piece of hardware anyway, but this will always be subjective.

I don't expect this to actually happen, but I would love it if it did. It'd give the 360 what I feel is a much deserved boost.

Unlikely. LCS was touted as PSP exclusive, but it didn't take long for that promise to be shattered.

The PSP isn't selling as well as the 360 though. If the PSP had sold as many units as the DS I doubt it would be platform jumping. It's probably just going to the PS2 to make up for lost sales, since Rockstart knows thaey can sell a ton of GTA: Whatever to the home console crowd.

I'm with the few thinking that being exclusive could make them more money in the long run, because not only will the geet a huge pay off from Microsoft to keep it exclusive, but a lot of people who were going to buy a PS3 early in it's life will most likely switch to the 360 to play the next GTA.

Since Microsoft has the potential to make a lot of money from a deal like this, the ammount offered for excluseivity could be huge.

If this is true, then it would be huge for Microsoft and the Xbox 360. I can't see this series being one console only for a whole generation though. If anything, I would expect Rockstar to have the same sort of deal with Microsoft as they did with Sony this generation. A time exclusive type deal would be in Rockstar's best interest dollar wise.

I think the best that Microsoft could hope for or even pay enough $$$ for would be an "exclusive" for 6-9 months before the same game or even an enhanced version would be released on the PS3 AFTER its initial 360 launch.

IF Microsoft did secure the first next-gen Grand Theft Auto it would ALMOST certainly put them in first place for the next couple years......too bad there is Metal Gear Solid 4 for the 360 to contend , if it wasnt for that game alone I would say that with just a couple more of the right moves -GTA exclusive included-Microsoft could gain a major lead in the next-gen race.

But even that would give the 360 a boost especially with the mainstream gamers and combined with Sonys late launch (when compared to the 360) would put a LOT of heat on Sony that I think they are already underestimating.

Hell at the very least it would make things all the more interesting with the next-gen race.

If M$ did pay for an exclusivity deal, it'd be a time based one, just like PS2 had with the GTA series... Maybe the next GTA game will be only on the X360 for 6 - 12 months and then be released on PS3 and PC?

YES! Put market share back into the hands of known monopolists where it belongs!!

Competition is good for the consumer. I don't want this to happen.

That's what I'm thinking too. Let it be an Xbox exclusive for 6-12 months and make it available for PS3 (and PC) whenever the hell that finally happens. Win win for M$ and Rockstar.
