So, I'm watching this auction: http://tinyurl.com/o7l9v
I've always wanted a Candy Cab. However, the seller won't answer questions I've sent to him.
1. It says it has a 1 slot MB. Were Candy's commonly released that way or is this likely not the MB it came with?
2. Why remove the face plate? I notice it has 6 buttons, was this likely some bastardized Street Fighter Conversion?
3. Is this thing even worth buying for $500+?
What do you guys think?

1) Given that it's got a 4-slot marquee, it may have come with a 4-slot originally. I'm unsure as to how these were shipped. That said, it's just JAMMA, so swapping out the 1 slot that's in there for a 4-slot isn't exactly a tough job.
2) Adding a 6-button panel would allow Capcom CPS-2 games, among other 6-button games. 6 button panels are generally seen as a good thing. I put one on one of my 4-button candy cabs.
3) Nice monitor, good working condition, nice cosmetic, sure it is.

I am no expert on Candy Cabs, but it does look like a conversion to me. AFAIK don't all dedicated Neo Geos use the 4 button layout? That 6 button deal looks like a fighter conversion to me. It's also somewhat suspicious that the top of the cab has a bunch of different marquees in it that aren't the game that comes with it, so a single slot mobo seems suspect.
Now for the good news -- if you're wanting one, I'd jump all over a candy cab in that condition for under $500. If I'd run across one at that price point, I'd own one. A new 19" monitor runs about $250 or so, and I suspect a new 29" one (I couldn't even find one just now) would be > $500 for sure.
(EDIT: Here's a 27" monitor from Happs (http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/49615700.htm) for $480.)
(Edit 2: ClubNinja beat me. :) )

I know the guy who used to own the cab (not the seller the previous owner). Great cab and he said it was in top notch shape before he sold it.

Usually they come with a 4 slot, as thats a 4 slot cab. Probably bought it with out a MB and just bought a 1 slot instead.
2. Why remove the face plate? I notice it has 6 buttons, was this likely some bastardized Street Fighter Conversion?
Like everyone said this is a good thing and I plan on doing this to mine in the future.
3. Is this thing even worth buying for $500+?
Its a pretty good price for that condition. Mine was $350 and its in a 6/10 cosmetically. I got to fix it up though, good day with it and it will be up to a 8/10
