I'm curious as to the forum's consensus on this one.

It's been getting good marks across the review circuit.

And if I'm not mistaken, it was in stores yesterday.

I played the 360 demo, and I really liked it. Laura is definately back with a vengence...

Of course, I ended up buying Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. But it was a pretty hard decision between buying the 2.

I may pick TR:L this weekend if I have some extra cash after I get the bills paid.

I as well played the demo and really enjoyed it. I found the camera controls a bit wonkey at first but you can adjust to them easily.

It's funny, I keep forgetting there is a demo on XBLA, and in this month's OPM. I need to give it a go.

my only gripe, is about how much better this is on 360 than xbox and ps2... I mean, looking at the side by side comparison on gametrailers.com, there really is no benefit to getting and paying 10-15 bucks more for the 360 ver, unless you want the acheivements of course.. but I am gonna rent it anyway.. just my 2 1/2 cents.

I took a go at it over at a friend's house, and I thought it played quite sexcellently. I thought this would be total vaporware.

Oh i also should say that I played the demo and am very impressed. If my local game shop has it in tomorrow, as they tell me they will, I will pick it up.

I saw Battlefield sitting on the counter of my store.

I looked away...

..and hugged Tomb Raider and skipped on away home for a fantastic game experience. I'm thoroughly enjoying the game, it's just a fun game simply put.

The game feels like a return to the days of Tomb Raider 1/2, which is what most of us want. Tomb raiding.. in a game called Tomb Raider? Holy hell, I would have never have guessed!

Yeah i was chatting with Grayfox about this last night. I just can't get over how much the game feels like the originals. Everything about the game is great, except for the low polygon models.

I bought it for the PC and it's really great.

The xbox 360 version, while it does look better than the ps2 and xbox versions, has slowdown I hear. Regular xbox runs at 60fps, ps2 around 30.

The PC version depends on your comp really. With the "Next Generation Effects" toggled off, it looks better than the Xbox version and runs super quick. With it toggled on, it looks about the same as the 360 version (though 360 users might be playing on HDTV). I can run it about 20-30fps normally but it dips during hectic parts. I got 1gig ram, Geforce 6800GS, 2.8ghz pentium 4. Though I hear lesser computers can run it with the "Next Generation Effects" turned off pretty well. Just download the demo and try.

As for the gameplay, it's really fun. This is what Tomb Raider should have been a long time ago instead of the constant "same old stuff" sequels. Though the game is like 7 hours long and it walks you through some of the bigger puzzles. I hate that. I want to figure it out for myself, game!

edit: the PC version is only $40 too! DVD only though so ya gotta have a DVD drive. But who doesn't nowadays?

Definitely...a low-poly image can be completely irrelevant if it's textured really well. For example, this shotgun (made by one of my current instructors) looks pretty good:

75 polygons. Not bad, eh?

I like the exploration part of the demo that I've played but the actual gun play and combat seems kinda haphazard. Also, I played this demo on my 360 on a smallish TV, and it seemed very unimpressive to me, then I played it on my huge screen in the Garage, and the game practically came alive, it was really amazing how much of a difference there was on such different sized screens.

Yeah but with Tomb Raider Lara's low-poly count are kind of offensive to eyes given the rest of the detail.

Wow! Your instructor's a master!

Anyway, originally I had thought "eh, Lara hasn't been much improved." I've been looking at the Flash banner ads all over GameSpy Forums, though, and I think the new, slightly more sophisticated look is...a bit better! If there's a PC demo of this, I'll try that out.

I got to see this Sunday's Best Buy ad early, and they're offering a Tomb Raider: Legend faceplate when you purchase the game. Looks like it is starting on Sunday, though, as a perusal and questioning at Best Buy turned up nothing yesterday.

I never liked the Tomb Raider series...I could never get used to the tank controls and sometimes unresponsive jumping...especially considering the good amount of platforming elements.

I downloaded the demo on my 360 yesterday and everything I hated wa fixed. While the contols aren't perfect, they are a huge improvement and I had a blast playing the demo.

I'll definitely be picking this one up soon.

I played the PC Demo the other night. I agree with Njiska and GrayFox. It does feel like the first two games. I'm glad. I missed exploring temples and jungle like areas. Plus it feels like they re-invented the original feel of the game. I like the breathtaking environments.

Music to my ears.

I never gave up hope that we'd see a "worthy" modern Tomb Raider one day. I'm so happy that the "accidental somersaults of death" are behind us.

I haven't had a chance to buy Legends yet, tomorrow for sure......but from what some of you are saying.....does it feel like that Indiana Jones game on Xbox?

I remember playing the original TR back when it first came out and I spent months trying to beat the game. The game turned from great, to wicked by the end and still remains one of the best gaming expriences I've ever had. I also remember doing suicide dives for fun at the end of the last level, well I did it really just about every place possible when I got stuck.

Man I really need to pick that game up again. The only one of the sequels that came close to first two was Last Revelation, but even that one got old after awile.

I really want to pick this game up, but I havn't seen it anywhere yet. Hopefully we'll have it at my store tomorrow, that way I'll have somthing to do until the food is ready Easter sunday.

Not quite, althought the grappling hook does lead to some similar moments.

PS: TR: Legend also feautures some cool Shemue like interactive cutscenes.

I bought this tonight cause my girly-girl was sick of me hogging the 360. She wanted a game to play.

Turns out, I'm still hogging the 360.... I don't know why, but theres a little Rayman 2 feel to it. I really love a good platformer. :D

I just got done in Peru...

I just got it today and it's better than I expected. It took awhile to get use to the new new controls, but after killing her a few times I got the hang of them.

My only gripe is that you can't do a dive anymore, I used to love doing sawn dives of death in the originals.

edit: Nevermind that, I read a faq and found out how. It just wasn't in the booklet from what I saw.

I don't buy a lot of games anymore (I've only bought two so far this year) but I like a good adventure game and haven't played one in awhile. Thus, I'm considering this. I do not have (and do not plan to get) an XBox 360 so I'm wondering just how good the regular XBox version is. I also have a PS2 but I imagine the XB version is better based on someone's saying it had a better framerate.

I had to blink when I heard the accent, actually, hahah.

Played the PC version demo recently - the water-on-skin effect wasn't OMG THE BEST EVER, but it's something that hasn't been done much.

I'm kinda at a loss how to say it...the game retains a cartoony feeling, but also makes good use of everything available in today's games. Pretty damn good overall. I'll probably end up getting multiple versions (Xbox and PC) sometime, hopefully sooner than later.

I play on PC, but I hate to say I'm losing intrest in PC gaming. Games are just major system hogs these days and I don't like bothering with patches and drivers, a ton of work just to play a game.

As far as Tomb Raider Legend, I'm about to try the PS2 demo now :)

I just downloaded and played the PC demo, and I liked it. Totally makes up for Angel of Darkness. I might be buying this one soon, on either PC or PS2. My PC probably looks pretty close to what the PS2 can dole out, but I think I'll go with the PS2 so I will still be able to play it 5 years down the line when this game probably wont work with Windows Vista :/

This is from a complete and total Tomb Raider hater:

Tomb Raider Legends will be one of the best games this year.

This is the equivalent of Resident Evil 4's turn around last year, maybe even more impressive given how terrible TR had become. The logical puzzles, insanely cool rope pulley thing, easy jumping, solid camera, smoother feel, and so far decent story are gripping me.

My only complaint is gunplay. Enemies take way too long go down, and the only time you can actually aim is when you can't move. Thankfully Lara can manuever enough to dodge, but it's still an ugly handicap.

People, play this game. I don't think I could stress this enough. It doesn't play like the old TR's at all, and that's the best compliment to give it.

Finally grabbed this yesterday and it's my pick for best looking 360 game thus far. The WATER....oh my.

I was practically skipping around the room like a schoolgirl and weeping tears of joy. All these years of hoping for a Tomb Raider turnaround has finally occurred. These guys deserve a medal for pulling it off.

This is freakin' awesome. Seven hour play time length be damned.....who cares? I can see myself playing this one over and over and over, just for the incredible atmosphere and environments. It's a keeper for sure.

Ms Dark could learn a thing or two from Ms Croft.

Own the 360 version, can't quit playing it as it feels like what a true TR game should feel like, exploring caves and jungles for the hidden secrets in very much fun. Only up to Japan so far.

Must own for any owner of a PS2, Xbox, PC or 360 :D :-P

Since everyone seems to like it, it appears that Tomb Raider: Legend will be my 3rd game purchase of the year. As I said before, I don't have a 360 so it's the XBox version for me. Maybe I'll eventually buy a game this year that isn't an Xbox title...

I'm stuck in King Aurthurs tomb. I'm surrounded by coffins, and the glowing statue of King Aurthur. The room with the bell/weight and huge swinging chandelier in the center of the room. I can't figure out where to go next. And yes, I found the movable piece of coffin.

What the hell am I supposed to do!?!?!? This is the only spot I can't seem to figure out.

Yeah... For some reason, I thought you were supposed to knock down the other pedistal or the little windows where the light was peeking in (behind the bell).

I just spent an hour and a half, alone, in that room. Trying to figure out what to do. And it turns out, it was super easy.

Just beat it this morning. This is one hell of a game. The last level is incredible. Slidng down, leap of faith, swing on a pole, move to unstable rock to a crumbling ledge... my god it's intense and trhilling.

And am I the only one who didn't open Lara's parachute six times on purpose earlier in the game? LOL That's a great Pilotwings flashback.

I purchased the game (Xbox 360 version) the other day and finally got around to playing with it yesterday. Everything looks nice, but I can't get over the slow down in the first level. Really apparent when spinning that camera around. Everything after that open area looked much better though.

I also can't stand how Lara and everyone else has those retarded faces. They need to give that poor girl a face lift.

Got more time into it and was able to get into the skyscraper (as in going through the obstacles to get there...not dropping spoilers). I love Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and this is what this game reminds me of a lot.

The only issue I really have is the stupid camera. I put poor, sweet Laura to death a few times due to swan diving off of ledges or poles because I couldn't see if she was lined up with whatever grapple point I wanted her to go to. This is essentially the third generation of 3D hardware (PS1/N64/Saturn was first, DC/PS2/Xbox/GC was second) and you'd think, even though developers don't have the 360 completely figured out, you'd think they'd be able to do a decent camera after eleven years of basic principle.
