I found an interesting Fami-clone today at the thrift store. Its called a "Power Joy," and is shaped like an N64 controller (like a lot of them). It has a light gun, the usual AV ports, and an external 60 pin port for famicom games. It came with a 64 in 1 cart. I suspect that its made by the same company that makes the "Mega Joy" line of Famiclones with the built-in games.
My question is this... what kind of power adapter does this thing use? :hmm: I plugged it in using an NES adapter, but it didn't work right. So I'm not sure if it stopped working, or if its just the wrong type of power supply. The cart works fine, so I know that's not the problem--I was able to play it using my famicom to NES adapter.

usually, those things are supposed to come with an adaptor or run on 4 AA batteries from a battery pack (a bad idea, if they die during the last stage of milk and nuts and milk or whatever it's called this bird week). you can actually FRY a famiclone with the incorrect AC adaptor. try one of those universal multi-volt deals on the lowest setting, and work your way up- you should get a response somewhere between 6 and 9 volts...(he said, covering his ears so the resulting explosion wouldn't pop his eardrums)... :-D

I found one a few weeks ago at a thrift store. The power supply that came with it states that the output is 9 volts DC @ 200 mA. I think the Nintedo adaptor puts out 9 volts AC, which is why it's probably not working. Radio Shack usually has the universal adaptors to fit. Just bring the unit in with you so you can match up the power plug, because it is a little smaller than average. It's a fun little unit, but I wish I could get the gun to calibrate.

Don't use an NES PS on a Famiclone. I made this mistake since the NES PS does fit and I figured it was practically a NES anyway so why not try it. Ended up frying it of course.

If you try with the incorrect power supply, how long do you think it would take before it is fried?

The N64 type famiclone I have, the super Joy III, has a battery pack where the n64 memory card would have gone. it takes 4 AA batteries. The power supply that came with it is the same used with many "development" and "pirate/clone" type devices. I'll take a look when I get home but I remember it being 9v DC 500ma
