I know very little about this system, so I'm hoping some of the Famicom collectors out there can help me out. I collect Bard's Tale stuff, and I noticed that there is a Famicom version (at least it's on all the Famicom release lists). Some Famicom lists also have Bard's Tale II. However, I have never seen one for sale on eBay or any websites (though I admit I don't really know where to look). Has anyone seen one of these? Better yet, does anyone own one? Better still, anyone have one for sale/trade?

i didn't think it was THAT rare. at one point i had 2 of these. one complete, one cart only- i traded off both for a bunch of super famicom stuff, thinking i was getting the better part of the deal, lol. it's a great game, btw... :-D

i DO have a complete famicom a d & d pools of radiance, though...

@kattkatt: Sorry, I could never pay that much for a game. If you could get him to send me a picture of it though that would be awesome. It would make me very happy just to be able to see it!

Well, very rare is probably the right word for BT Famicom, but unopened.........

I had asked about both 1 and 2, but yes that was what I was expecting. Thank you! I have no idea what the back of the box says. :/

Interesting that they used the computer box design (with the grey and black maze background) instead of the red box like the NES version.

well, you have to remember, famicom stands for FAMIly COMputer, and that nintendo saw the system as more than just a new electronic toy in japan. also, from a design standpoint, the famicom box definitely catches your eye more than the NES one, i think.

you should see the pools of radiance box. the game comes in a big gold box the size of a vcr tape, and inside that is an oversize manual, and ANOTHER (regular sized famicom) box that has the game cartrige inside...

Wow do you have a scan? I would love to have that badboy :D Hey Keir I am also a Bards Tale fan. Bards Tale 2 The destiny Knight shows up on ebay every other month. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3006468250&category=11030
This seller always has it but no one buys it. Its usually at $40. I was waiting for it to come down to $20 before I would consider buying it. I am in the process of working out a trade with someone in Japan from gameTZ who tells me that the game isn't too hard to find. I wonder if it has an english menu option like the Wizardry Famicom games? Would you know Geelw?

lol- you might wanna hold onto your loot for a while. pony canyon did a full text translation to japanese on the famicom a d & d games, making them possible to play only if you know the english versions inside and out. i'm actually looking for any console wizardry games released in japan with english options myself, particularly psx/saturn ones, as the gameplay/movement speed is faster than in the pc versions, and some titles (like wizardry: new age of llylgamyn on the ps) have a few different graphics options.

you should see some of the commercials sony made to promote wizardry VII- they're hysterically funny, and sort of make you wonder what SCEA was thinking by not approving/releasing the game series here (grrrr)...

Eh? English options? Geelw, do you know which (if any) of the Japanese PSX / Saturn Wizardry games had English text? I'm an old-school Wiz 7 fan, and have been curious about the console versions...

on the psx:

wizardry: new age of llylgamyn
wizardry: llylgamyn saga*

saturn:

wizardry: llylgamyn saga*

*i haven't picked these up yet, but more than one person has told me that this collection has an english text option. interestingly enough, it's gone through 3 pressings- 2 by locus/soliton (one a "playstation best" release), and one by success (which is even less expensive than the first re-release), so the game seems to have done well over there.

as for wiz VII:

there are two different home versions of it. the psx version (1995, soliton for sony) has redone enemy/dungeon/field graphics, faster traveling/turning speed, and slightly different maps for some areas. the saturn version (published in 1996 by data east) is on a disc with wiz VI, and seems to be a direct port (visually) of the PC version- it also runs faster and has better overall control over the pc version. there are also at least 3 other japan only psx wizardry games, 1 or 2 super famicom games, and a couple of game boy games that never made it out here. :-D ..

oh yeah- both games are entirely in japanese, except for the narration and any other spoken dialogue, which is the same from the PC version (go figure)...

I have Wizardry Llylgamyn Saga for the PSX and it does have the english options. Are there english options for the Saturn Wizardry 6&7? There are 3 SFc Wizardry games. I have two of them(don't need Wiz5 since its on the snes) and I haven't been able to find an English option. I am looking forward to the Wizardry Summoner for the GBA.

and i remembered- you were one of the folks who told me it did, lol. well, wiz VI/VII on the saturn have no english options (which makes me whip out the manual to the PC game when i play it)...

i just got might & magic: day of the destroyer for the japanese ps2, and it absolutely boggles my mind why 3DO didn't release it here first, then again, the series has always had more games for japanese consoles than u.s. ones, and i guess it's revenge on US gamers for hatin' all their other games, lol... ;)

Thanks for the tip Bighab! I decided to buy it from the guy for $30. Just got it in the mail the other day. Unfortunately I can't play it to find out if there's an English menu. I have a Famicom but no way to plug it in. :|

I hope your trade on GameTZ works out!

Hey I am glad my tip helped out a fellow gamer :D I haven't heard back from my contact in Japan but hopefully I will get myself a copy. Do you have a NES and a converter to try the game on? It still looks fairly playable with or without english menus.

Scored myself a copy of Bards Tale 2 . My friend brought it back from Japan a few weeks ago. I couldn't find any english menus though :/ I miss the automap from the first Bards Tale.
