View Full Version : What's the easiest system to complete - price & rarity?

Okay, I will try another one:

EXCLUDING the Sega 32X for obvious reasons, what is the system that you can complete a collection for with the least amount of difficulty?

Not just because of price, but because of rarity of some of the games as well.

Don't include imports or homebrews (PLEASE) - it changes everything.

For example, I think that the Sega CD is probably one of the easier systems to complete the games list, because there are only about 160 games or so, there aren't too many hard-to-find titles, and they aren't very expensive.

On the other hand, the 2600 would be one of the most difficult to complete because of rarities and price. Sheer volume of carts for the 2600 isn't the reason, as the NES has more games, but isn't as difficult to complete as the 2600.

What do you think?

I would say that NUON definitely is one of the easiest. Less than 10 games (7?), and other than Iron Soldier III all common. You'd spend maybe $200 completing a sealed collection, depending on how cheap IS3 went for.

yeah NUON... or Game.com lol
Sealed collection for that is like umm.... $35?
other than that the Virtual Boy and the Odyssey 2 are within reach. Also the InteractiveVision if you can find the games they are cheap. =]

have fun

Yeah, enjoy your game.com collection. Make sure to leave all games sealed, so you won't accidently play them.

And I wouldn't consider the 32X an easy system to collect for. At least not in Europe. There are some titles that are REALLY hard to get.

Saturn isn't too hard either. There are some expensive titles, but it's all fairly easy to get. No special editions, or store exclusives.

the Atari 7800 is one to consider.. I've calculated a complete boxed collection and it's well below other loose collections. In 10 years I'm assuming that the N64 will be an inexpensive collection to get loose. I think even collectors will start to sell em off as you just won't be able to get a working game pad thanks to the all plastic not metal shaft. but that isn't today.

This, of course, is only if the systems were common over there.. I honestly don't know.

RCA Studio II is pretty easy to complete.

Well depending on whether you collect boxes or not, some games are ALOT harder to find in the original boxes. Pretty much all 5200, 7800, Intellivision, Odyssey 2, & even SMS games are fairly common. There's only a small handful of very hard to find titles for those systems. Also there are not 500+ games to find like on 2600, NES, Genesis, etc. I think all of those systems are under the 125 mark, O2 is the smallest around 49 or so.

I have a complete 5200 collection, save for a few label variations and boxes, which I will eventually own. I'm around the 65-70% mark on SMS, with 86 games, some are imports, and over 50% with 7800, neither of which, I really ever started collecting. That's just what I've found locally for the most part. With a little ebaying I could easily complete those systems too.

But I think it really depends on if you'd want a complete collection or not too, for some of these are really horrible games. Odyssey 2 has a few good ones, but mostly everything I ever played on it was crap. Even if I could have had a complete collection I probably wouldn't have kept it because too many of the games I just wouldn't want to play. I feel the same way about the Sega CD as well. Just too many titles not worth collecting an entire set for.

Mattel Aquarius

The 9 games released for it are a little hard to find, but there's practically no demand for them. You could get a complete collection (system + games) for under $100.

I agree about the 32x... it might be easy to get a complete collection of USA games without too much difficulty (T-Mek and especially Spiderman being the only tough ones) but if you want to get EVERY release you're in for a hell of a time... FIFA Soccer is getting up there in price and rarity (the last Ebay I remember went for $65).

Then there are the two "holy grails" of 32x collecting...

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4 only came out in Japan and is a bitch to find.

DarXide was the last 32x game, released only in the UK, and I've only seen it come up on Ebay twice in two years. Both times it went for almost $400, and now the word's out and a lot of collectors are trying to find it.

Fifa 96 on the 32X going for $65?!?!?! That is craziness! I've sold on at least three copies of that game, and none of them got that much. In fact, I thought I'd made a killing when one went for about $30. Hmph! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for any more of those!!

Yeah, FIFA 96 is a sports game!
You can get it at eBay UK for at most 30 bucks. And that's on the high side.

Ha! I just checked and you can still buy Fifa 96 from Telegames for a mere £39.99 (about $65)...

2600?
GameBoy?

There are so many low number runs in these collections???

I think they would be the hardest.

Don't forget Virtual Boy. A trip to eBay and $100 gets you all CIB USA games. Jack Bros is the hardest to find but it pops up somewhat often on eBay and the rest are easier to find with most going for less than $10.

I'd strike 2600 from the list above, games like Air Raid is so rare you would probably never see one with your own eyes. Also strike NES out because some games like the Panesian games can set you back over $300 and then there's game like NWC, that's over 5 grands if you're lucky to find one.

SNES and Gameboy would be a hard system to complete as well. So many games just in USA, something like 800 or so (excluding Color GB mind you) and some games almost never pops up on eBay. (When's the last time you saw a French translator for GB on eBay? Personal Organizer by the same company?)

Neo Geo Pocket Color wouldn't be too tough.

CrazyImpmon is French Translator hard to find? There's one sitting in a pawn shop near here loose for $5.00. I assumed it's worthless.

Wait 'til you start looking for Outback Joey, though you really need the whole Health Fitness set up for good measure.

Dreamcast has been pretty easy so far. I've not been paying over $10 for them lately. Unless I bought it on release day, I haven't paid more than $25 for a used copy.

The only game that have been proven to be on the high side in terms of price was Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2, Power Stone 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. These should set you back no more than $20-25 each.

Why OJ was the pack-in with the Heatbeat Fitness System of course. Not much info online, but I borrowed the system from Ralph Baer many years ago and dumped the cart. Problem is, it requires a cable plugged in to the controller port to work so you can't see much of the game without the whole set up. The system disappeared from my store shortly after I dumped the rom and hasn't been seen since. It contained a Genesis with a custom top half (bottom half of the console was stock 1st gen) and cable to hook up to an excercise bike if I recall correctly.

I don't know if I ever scanned the box or not, but I didn't come across a scan online.

So you noticed my increased presence, huh? At least I got my Aircast removeable today and start PT Monday. Only 4-5 more weeks to go! ;)

Ok, so it's basically the Genesis Racermate of sorts. Maybe it's still available, like Racermate? Did the cart look production or a proto?

Either way, it sounds like a huge pain in the ass.

Good luck with PT, you'll need it! Mwhahahahaha!!

(Not really) ;)

It was very much a production item. I can't say I've looked lately, but at the time there was very little I could find on it and I think the address and phone number we had for the company was already dated, so tracking them down will be difficult.

As for the PT, tell me about it! I have absolutely no strength in my ankle at the moment and some of my leg muscles feel like they were put in a paper shredder. :(

And you were right when you asked if I lost weight last week. I checked Wednesday and I lost 25 pounds in the three weeks since the accident. :/
