i'm a pretty big RPG fan and i usually like to get the most complete version of a game. after its death it seems that many of the dreamcasts most notable rpgs were ported to other systems but assumeing a person had both the dreamcast and the other system plus both games which version would you play?
from what i found evolution1/2 are bascicly the same from the DC to the game cube port. Skys of arcadia has added content on the GC and played like the origional with a lower random encounter rate. the only one i found that may be better playing on the DC was Grandia 2. The Playstation 2 version had some added content and cutscreens but i read it played a little choppy on a PS2. is the choppyness enough to bypass the extra content and just play the DC version?

and finally with all the ports are there any notable dreamcast "exclusive" rpg's left?

Was Elemental Gimmick Gear ported to anything else (or ported TO the DC from some other console)? I believe Silver was a PC game first. Record of Lodoss War is sort of an Diablo-esque action/rpg.

Silver and Hundred Swords were both very good, and neither got a console port - however they did both make the transition to PC, so I dunno if they count.

Nakoruru and Card of Destiny were never released on any other system, and neither was Sakura Wars IV.

I'm sure there are plenty of other exclusive RPGs on DC, but those are the ones that spring to mind first.

Almost everytime I see someone really bashing GII, I find that they've played the PS2 version. Not saying that GII is universally loved or anything, but I wouldn't touch the PS2 version with a stick. Well, except for the fact that it's in my collection - but I'll never play it!

There is no extra content. They just changed some scenes into CGI (IIRC).

Grandia II is one of the few fantasy RPGs I can stand. Hell I even LIKE that one. Then again it gets almost into horror genre anyway. Plus it works on VGA!

I wish there was an EGG port as it's an awesome fucking game and more people need to play it. I like it better than most Zeldas.

Shenmue II is probably somewhat better on the Xbox. Only US version, comes with the "movie" version of the first game, has the photo mode and some little video filters you can play with. Loads faster too I think. Plus it's under 20 bucks nowadays.

Grandia II on the Dreamcast is spectacular. I heard the PS2 version was terrible (1.5 in EGM right?)

Now, I like to get the authentic feel while playing games so I would play these games on the Dreamcast, the system it was created for. They have a look to all of them that echoes memories of that system, and to play them on Gamecube would be fine, just not the way they should be played.

Slightly higher resolution from what I remember and of course it's dubbed. I'm one of the few people that actually like the voice acting in the Shenmue games. :)

About Grandia II on the DC, it wasn't a bad game and is one of the best Dreamcast RPG's, but come on... it was SO easy (especially compared to the original) and the "ending" was pretty much nonexistant. Also what a HUGE dissapointment it was that it completely threw away the plotline and world of the original Grandia which is my favorite RPG.

I do want to point out that Skies of Arcadia is not a perfect DC port either. The audio is off (not a huge deal, but enough to bother me) and you don't get the benefit of a VMU. That being said, I would still agree that the GC one is the one to own.
