View Full Version : What do you do when a game is worth next to nothing?

I've been digging through all of my stuff and finding plenty of games and accessories that I just don't want. But checking out eBay, I really can't get much for them. $5 would be a blessing for some of these things...

So, just out of curiosity, what would you do with games and such that you don't want that aren't worth squat?

Offer for trades. Someone will probably want one.

I keep it. If I had anything that I could trade I would.

Keep it, definitely. I never throw anything out. If I have it already, offer it for trade.

Those of you who said you'd toss it, PM me the next time you have something you want to get rid of. I'll take it off your hands if I don't already have it! LOL

I just end up keeping it if I can't find anyone who wants it. Really I just don't know what else I would do with the game, I might donate it to a store or something like that, but most games I can come up with some reason to keep it.

Yeah...folks who've chosen the "pitch it" option should check out the Orphans topic in the B&S forum.

I voted for "pitch it" only cause there was no "trade it" option. I don't mean trade on these forums, I'm talking about trading em into an EBish store. Even the $.50 I get on a loose genny sports cart is better than nothing. But I would rather throw it away than try to sell it.

Throwing away carts is bad, man. You never know, somebody might eventually want a cart for a project or somethin'.

Somebody will always buy something at the "RIGHT" price. If you look in the Buying & Selling forums here, there are things that are priced for like $1, that most people really wouldn't want, or might think is relatively worthless, but usually somebody will do a trade or something and that item will end up going somewhere.

At a certain point, sure you can end up with too many things in your inventory, and you simply must make space, but then you put everything into a big batch and do a post like "Highest offer by this weekend takes all" or some crap like that. Usually somebody will throw something at that. Also, not a good idea to throw stuff in the trash, that just contributes to our landfill problems. Might as well donate it to a thrift store and continue the cycle of life.

One man's trash, is another man's treasure.

By the way, if anybody has any old gaming magazines that there were planning on throwing away, the first thing that you should do is PM me and see if I want them :D And if it's not practical to ship or whatever, there is usually a place that you can take old magazines or newspapers to, so they can be recycled. Where I live, we have a trash can and a recycable can. I throw all newspapers and unwanted magazines (not video game ones) in the recycable can. Might as well.

I have a real taste for unknown, obscure games. As such much of my PS pile is relatively rare or at the very least uncommon to find, but not worth a while lot.

Some examples: Steel Reign, Carnage Heart, Wargames: Defcon 5, Robopit

So I keep it, since selling them seems rather pointless anyway.

Oops. I thought "pitch it" meant "trade it." It never even occurred to me that DPers would throw away a game. LOL

I keep 'em all. If it's worth nothing, and I also don't like the game, it goes into the games box in the closet. It can join the many Genesis EA sports games already in there.

From my own experience with cheap games I don't want, no one has ever bought one of mine. No ones likes to trade for old crap either. I've kept some, but I gave a bunch away about 2 years ago so that the cases could be used to make new homebrew games.

I have a few games and CDs that I've just kept because I know I'd probably get next to nothing for them all. Might as well just keep them since they don't take up much space.

System bundles my friend...system bundles :)

Yup, right there. Any super common or bad game doubles in value when added to a lot with a system. Or bundle a bunch of the lower value games together in one lot.

I just keep 'em. If they are carts and I have multiples of them, I will use them to try out new methods of cleaning my games. If they are discs, and I don't have a case for them, I put them on one of those CD spools that CD-R and DVD-R discs come on. I paid a dollar a few months ago at a indoor flea market for 28 more SMB/DH carts for NES. I just took em at that price. I know that I won't be able to get rid of them, but maybe I can use them for something else like target practice.

 ..system bundles, using the back half of the shells to replace worn or damaged back half shells on other carts (I note this so if I sell the game I'm upfront about it - but that's just me), homebrew cart projects, full replacement shells for when building Famicom to NES converters, etc.
