I just hooked up Playstation and I'm having a problem with it. I cannot get any picture. I can here the regular sounds(the Sony logo among loading noises). As far as I know I have everything hooked up correctly. Anyone know how to fix this?

Tune the TV in. The same thing happened when I got a PS1 recently.

We have a special subforum called the Technical and Restoration Society (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=24) for these type of topics. Posting questions such as this with as much information as possible there will yield you faster / better responses. ;) Perhaps a mod can move this over there.

Now to answer your question, to begin with have you seen this PlayStation and AV cable work with your setup before? I ask this now as problems like this (where you're getting audio but no video or vice versa) are usually caused by the TV or VCR not being set to the proper input channel or not being connected correctly. Check these connections first, happens to the best of us. :)

After that if you still have the problem, what I would do is clean the connector socket on the back with some canned air, same thing with the AV multi plug that connects to the PlayStation. Sometimes dust or dirt can get in there and cause a bad connection, a loose connection there can also cause video breakup. I used to have this problem with my first PlayStation years ago, wasn't an early model or anything, just the first one I ever had back in 1997 or so. The AV plug would need to be moved around until the picture came back up bright as it was supposed to be - was a loose / bad connection. Try that too, jiggle the AV plug around and see if it effects anything.

Last, if it's an early model PlayStation with the built in RCA jacks, try using those - this could weed out a bad AV multi cord.

Hmm, never noticed that forum before.

Anyway, yes I have used this PS before. And I'm using an RF switch and AV cabels :/

Not sure I understand that statement. My TV was just bought last year so I don't think you can "tune" it.

If you're using RF Switch and AV cables am I to understand the RF is carrying the Video and the AV is the Audio? If so, you're on the wrong channel, and you could "tune" it to the proper channel, It could be that the switch is set to channel 3 and if your running it through the VCR, the VCR could be on channel 4.

My bad, I just have it hooked up with and RF switch and not AV cabels. Sorry about that.

When I first got my Playstation (SCPH-7501) back in '99, at the time I was forced to use RF because of my crappy old TV. So, I bought a cheap 3rd party RF box at a nearby game store, didn't work. I thought the system was defective, traded in for another, still didnt work. Went to the game store, traded in the 3rd party RF switch for a more expensive Sony RF switch, worked!! I later read somewhere (I think it was EGM??) that Sony changed the A/V out on newer Playstations 5500 series and later so older RF boxes wouldn't work or something. I still can't explain exactly what the deal was with my problem, though...

Long story short, try another RF switch. Or better yet get a better TV and use the damn AV cables. Or S-Video. Hell, get an RGB monitor and use RGB cables...... but I digress.

Seriously, though, RF switches suck in general. A better solution is to plug the AV cables into a VCR and send the RF out to the TV. Or get an AV selector, like Pelican's $20 one, that takes AV in and sends RF out.
