I guess it's generally assumed that if a game comes out on all three systems that the Xbox version is the best.

Assuming you have two or three of the systems (I have PS2 and Gamecube) how would you rank the best versions to get?

Feel free to add other games to the list as well

Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer (GC framerate probs) X P C
LOTR: Two Towers (good on all platforms) X C P
Medal of Honor: Frontline (GC and Xbox have multiplayer) X C P
NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 (GC framerate probs) P X C
Silent Hill 2 (Xbox has extras) X P
Spiderman: The Movie X C P
Spy Hunter (GC framerate probs, Xbox has extras) X P C
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (better framerate on Cube) C P
SSX Tricky (rushed GC port) X P C
Time Splitters 2 (need multitap for PS2) X C P
Tony Hawk 4 (good on all platforms) X C P

Cheers,

For me the GameCube controller ruins quite a few games. The wing buttons do not act like the wing buttons on the PS2. Tricky is IMO unplayable on the GC because I learned to play it on the PS2.

I'm all about the controller - and, unfortunately, the types of games that get ported don't take the Gamecubes unique configuration into account, which is why I rarely buy ported stuff on it.

So for SSX, in which four shoulder buttons make pulling tricks off simpler, I'd go P X C

But for a FPS, like say 007 NightFire, I'd go X P C (because I like the positioning of the two analog sticks best on Xbox).

If companies would take the Gamecube controller into consideration when they were making games they wouldn't complain about poor sales on that machine methinks.

"Goes without saying the xbox version is best"

I don't really think so. Honestly, if I had all three consoles and the same game was released for all three, I would probly get the PS2 every time. Here's how it goes for me:

Simple, easy, multiplayer games - Gamecube

Online games - Xbox

Everything else - PS2

The PS2 controller is the best (Although I do LOVE the basic analog for gamecube, much more responsive, and I like the design of the cubes shoulder buttons analog with the click at the end) For that reason alone, I would get the PS2 version.

Also, I don't like the graphics on the xbox. Yeah, they're really nice, but besides DOA and PD Orta, they all look deformed to me (ESPECIALLY the sports games, all the football players look like fat midgets to me)

All a matter of taste, and that's my taste, so flame away :P

Developers do take the controllers in to account, but their primary focus us usually PS2 because that is what sells.

Here's my take:

Hunter - better on Xbox, GC version looks washed out
SSX Tricky - better looking on Xbox
Tony Hawk series - prefer GC because I learned to play Tony on the Dreamcast
Medal of Honor - Xbox
Capcom vs. SNK 2 - GC's controller makes it a struggle

And EGM magazine said Need for Speed was best on PS2, tried them all and couldn't tell the difference.

Let it be known that I hate the Sony Dual Shock. It is a tool of evil (ok, well maybe it's not that bad). It sucks for fighting games like KOF '99. I prefer a cross d-pad.

I play PS2 only for the stuff I can't get on another console.

I agree. The only games I have for GC are only on GC.that should say something about what I think.

I guess this is sort of like the SNES and GENESIS debates back in the day.
The genesis ran sports games faster but they looked better on the SNES. But the Snes had shorter , fatter, sports players.
And some people liked the snes controllers better than the genny's or the other way around.
I have all 3 new systems and here's how I see it.
The XBOX graphics almost always look the best. The PS2 controller feels and works the best and the PS2 has the best selection of games. And the Gamecube has some of the best games (Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Zelda ,etc.)
And I agree with everyone here that quick ports to the Gamecube stink. >)

Jeez, if the cube controller bothers people that much, why not just get one of those silly little adators?
