Ok, here's the deal: I have a Saturn and Policenauts. I played several hours and saved. But when I boot up my game, it appears there is continue option. So, I go into the Action Replay 4-in-1 Plus memory manager and see that there is, in fact, a saved Policenauts game there. But no matter how hard I try, I only get the menu options NEW GAME, SETTINGS, TARGET PRACTICE. According to several sites, the second option should be CONTINUE. I'm new to the Action Replay, so what the crap am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

You need to go into the Action Replay Plus 4M Auto memory manager and copy the save from the cartridge to the Saturn's internal memory. Games cannot access data on memory cartridges, only save data contained on the internal memory. The memory backup on a cartridge is for just that, a backup. You backup your data to it, moving saves back and forth as needed. This allows you to have tons of saves that the limited Saturn internal memory couldn't hold all at once.

This has nothing to do with the Action Replay Plus 4M Auto cartridge or the game, it's just how Saturn memory backup cartridges (that part of the AR) work.

if you uses genuine Sega backup memory carts or "Direct Save" compatible backup memory carts you could access straight from the game...

4-1 import carts by its nature cannot be direct save carts by the way

But then you'd need a Jap Saturn or a modded Saturn to be able to play Policenauts. Otherwise, you need the 4-in-1

So how are you enjoying Policenauts, Ridley? Are you using a walkthrough? I still haven't played all the way through it yet. I just checked it out enough to veryify that it works.

I thought the original poster was using JPN Saturn since it only came out in Japan and wouldn't be much fun if you don't know Japanese... O_O

Well, I'm having a hell of a good time, thanks for asking. I loved loved loved Snatcher, and even bought the Saturn version. Let me tell you something, it is HARD to play through in Japanese, even if you've played the Sega CD one to death (me? Probably 15 times).

Err, I kinda have a retarded follow-up question: If my little battery is dead in my Saturn, that will most certainly affect my game-save, no? So, if it's dead (which it is) then I probably couldn't send my action replay save to the interal battery, right? God, I fell like an idiot.

Save everything from the Saturn to your AR before you replace the battery. Otherwise, you'll lose everything in the Saturn. My battery went dead on me fairly recently too.

I also have Snatcher for the Saturn, but I haven't tried to play through it yet either. There's a whole site devoted to both games with complete walkthroughs for each game here (http://community-2.webtv.net/LiquidSnake/ThePolicenauts/).

Yup, that's why having those memory cartridges is great, you never lose your saves when the internal system battery goes dead since you can have them all backed up to the cartridge. Replace the battery (takes 2 minutes and a $3 CR2032 button cell) and you'll be good to go.

Wow, I'm surprised I didn't see this topic sooner. My answer would have been the same as prety much veryone elses', in regards to swapping your saves from the memory/import cart to the internal memory in order to use it.

Hey Iron Draggon thanks for the free plug of my site :) I know it's been a long time since I did any real updates to the site, but I'm glad people can still get some use out of it. I also felt really good when my letter about Policenauts got printed in OPM last month. Any exposure is good exposure :)

Ridley 30, congrats on getting a fine game! If you got any questions about it, let me know. Even in Japanese, it's equal to, if not better in some ways, to Snatcher. Just....kinda stay away from the PSX/Saturn remakes of Snatcher....not so good :(
