Anyone who likes videogames, flea markets, and lives anywhere near Tulsa, Oklahoma should check out the flea market located just off 51st street on the west side of town. Here are pictures of just a few things The Stranger and I ran across this weekend while out shopping …

We've been meaning to make a trip up to Tulsa for a while now. Maybe on my next long weekend we'll check it out :)

That looks pretty awesome. Wishing I had an extra store around here that looked like that.

One thing I've noticed about flea markets....
Everyone that sells PC games always has a copy of Creatures. God, that game must've sucked.
Everytime I go into a place that sells used PC games, I see at least 5 copies, without fail...
I'd kill for one of those sealed Night Stalker's. :D

Thats interesting.. your american flea markets seem very organised.. around here its just everything thrown in a pile on a table.. no glass no nothing
But then again none of them know ANYTHING about games..
Never any glass though, that must be annoying LOL

I'm rather curious about that Godzilla myself.

A lot of games there because they never sell, they are way overpriced. But that is just down the street from us Flack, you should have come by lol.
Last time we were there the guy with all the games was trying to sell a poor soul "the rarest Mario game" cart only Mario is Missing for $30.
The saddest part of that flea market is in the very back someone has a stand of atari and nes that are all dirt caked and sunbleached, you expect them all to be E.T. or something. Poor games :(

Yes, Godzilla (and the two Shogun Warriors next to him which I didn't get a pic of) were all $75 each. I had two Shogun Warriors when I was a kid and I thought $75 sounded crazy! Then I came home and checked eBay and the first one I saw was selling for $120 so I guess they really are worth that much, go figure!
Ice: Coming from the east, go all the way through Tulsa just like you're doing to OVGE. The OVGE exit was Lewis; this is about 2-3 miles west of that. There's a big billboard on the left hand side that says "Flea Market, next exit". The exit is 51st street. From there just follow the signs, you can't miss it. It's only open on Saturdays from 8-5.

An icbrkr/PDF raiding party must be formed and launched toward this venue immediately. O_O

Well, $75 is a tad pricy for me.
Any old (pre-1994) EGM mags at this place?

No no no. Creatures is an amazing game. The problem is its kindof more of an experiment than a game. The guy who made it is basically some self-taught scientist with all these ideas about artificial life. He put those into the game. It basically is an A-Life game. You breed these Creatures, have to look after them and teach them stuff, then they breed and soforth with their genes passing through to the next generation (though they get very incestual, urgh). It also had a great online community - people trading creatures and there were thousands of new items and things to download. I guess the game was probably far too wacky for most people.
I live about 35 miles north of Tulsa. If my car wasn't so screwed up I would drive down there. :frustrated:

The flea market in South Carolina (where I live) pretty muchs sucks.
There is one store, and it's a tad bit pricey, but everything's behind glass and he has a lot of games. The guy who runs it is a tad odd, but he's still cool.
There's one other store teen feet away from this store that focuses exclusively on video games and guitars, but they both sell for the same prices.
Creatures was a fun game too.
There's an image of my table at the Vancouver Flea Market here (http://rrx.ca/fleamarket.jpg), although it's quite messy ;) Not much in the way of old games, since what's for sale on the table are only dupes from my personal collection, but plenty of cleaned/fixed/refurbished systems.

Just curious if you remember, what were the SNES carts behind the glass with the atari age magazines?

I believe they were both Star Wars games.

If you make it down, you've got a place 100 miles away to crash. :)

How ironic. Wife and kids ask to go to the Tulsa Zoo earlier this week and then Flack is nice enough to post a pretty cool looking store that he finds.
Let's see how this works:
Go to Zoo = Kids happy
Go to Mall = Wife happy
Game hunting at a new store = Daddy happy
It's a win, win, win scenario. All I have to do is behave and let them enjoy themeselves and then it's my turn.
BTW: Was it called "Saturday Flea Market"

Yeah, this isn't that uncommon. There are at least three vendors at the Mile High Flea Market that trade/sell video games nearly exclusively.
And they're all priced slightly under-at-over-WAY OVER eBay prices so deals are not to be found in these sorts of places for the most part.
As the hobby expands, expect to see lots more of these mom-and-pop retro gaming booths at flea markets across the country.
They typically know what they have. And what's worse is they comb the flea market before it opens to pick up carts at other booths/family sales for low prices and mark them up, thus they keep their inventory flowing.
That said, I've managed to snake out some great deals under these guys noses because they lack the encylopedic knowledge of the hobby that a real enthusist should have.
Bottom line: at flea markets, places like this are NOT a good thing for the rest of us.

That may be the case, however what you may consider overpriced may not be overpriced to someone else. All of it boils down to personal opinion.
Generally anything in Tulsa is cheaper than what it goes for in my town given the larger market in Tulsa. About the only store with good prices in my town is the local Salvation Army store.
My area is pretty much divied up between two stores and they overcharge for everything that isn't sports games. Especially Nintendo stuff. Case in point last time in Tulsa I saw Mario RPG on SNES for $19.99 loose. All the game stores in my area charge $29.95 - $34.95 for a loose copy.
Sure I may find it cheaper later on down the road, but given the price in my area and if I was dying for a copy I would probably spend the $20 on it.
