Okay, in this thread everyone post a random tip, code or strategy for classic games. It'll be fun, won't it? :D
If enough people post enough tips, maybe we'll all learn some cool thing we weren't aware of!
Here's mine-
In Double Dragon II for the NES, start a 2 player game, select game B. After you've cleared the first round of enemies, you can attack player 2- every time player 2 dies, your lives will increase by one! You can get 7 lives at the beginning this way.
In Mike Tyson's Punch Out!, you can go directly to Mike Tyson with the password 007 373 5963.
In Kingdom Grand Prix for the Sega Saturn, you can eleminate the race element and play the game as a standard shooter with this code- at the option screen, select "sound" and input "left, right, left, right, up, up, down, down, start" if you did it correctly, "game mode" will appear and you can select "shooter".
In Castlevania IV for the SNES, when you're at the foot of the staircase to Dracula's room, jump off the ledge as far as you can. You'll land on an invisible floor, and if you go to the left side of the screen you'll get full energy, 99 hearts, a boomerang and a triple shot.
Your turn!

Man I abused the heck out of that Double Dragon II tip back in the day! Cool thread idea.
In Final Fantasy Tactics: Turn off all counter abilities and defeat all but one enemy. Turn him into a frog and surround (trap) him. Have your weakest member attack the frog while the other members speed your guy up and heal the enemy. Quick job points. For added bonus train a charactor to learn all the spells this way (white, black, time) then make them a Calculator use this trick again, transform them back into a black mage (equip with Math) and you have best character in the game.
I also abused this Double Dragon I trick (plagiarised from GameFAQs):
In mission two, after crossing the pit by climbing onto the fence and moving right, two enemies start walking towards you. When the one closer to the top of the screen almost walks past the girders (The red steel beams in the background) Climb the fence, and walk back past the pit and climb off the fence. Climb back on, and head back to where the two Williams enemies were coming at you, start kicking and punching were the williams near the girders was and you'll start hitting "Invisible Williams" Keep on kicking and punching til you get all your hearts and techniques in the second mission!
Have to mention the Konami code:
UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A
Works (some variations) in a game or two...
Batman Returns (SNES) BeatMania (GameBoy) Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (GBA) Contra (NES) Contra: Shattered Soldier (PS2) Cosmic Epsilon (Famicom) Fighter's History (SNES) Final Fight 2 (SNES) Gradius (Arcade) Graduis (NES) Gradius Galaxies (GBA) Gradius Gaiden (PS1) Gradius 2 (NES) Gradius III (SNES) Gyruss (NES) Kid Clown (NES) Konami Collector's Series: Arcade Advanced (GBA) (Frogger, Time Pilot, Kung Fu, Rush n' Attack, Scramble, Gyruss) Life Force (NES) Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2) Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES) NBA Give-N-Go (NES) Nemesis (GameBoy) North and South (NES) Operation C (GameBoy) Ordyne (TurboGrapfx-16) Racing Fighter (GameBoy) Silent Hill 3 (PS2) Smart Ball (SNES) Star Wars: The Clone Wars (PS2) Tengen Tetris (NES) TMNT Fall of the Foot Clan (GB) TMNT 3: The Manhattan Project (NES) TMNT IV: Turtles in Time (SNES) Top Gun: The Second Mission (NES) Wario Ware (GBA) Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner (PS2) Zombie Nation (NES)

Speaking of the Konami code...
In Gradius III for SNES, if you pause the game and enter the Konami code, (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A ) when you resume the game, your ship will explode. Instead, enter up, up, down, down, L, R, L, R, B, A (L,R=shoulder buttons) your ship will be fully powered up with four options, missiles, a laser and a shield. However, it takes one of your reserved lives each time you do this.
In Contra for the NES, in a 2 player game, if one player loses all of his lives he can steal a life from the other player by pressing A.

Have to mention the Konami code:
UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A
<s>You should probably mention that in Gradius III (maybe other games), the actual code is UP UP DOWN DOWN L R L R B A START...otherwise, your ship blows up. ;)</s>
EDIT: Beaten to the punch.

In Revenge of Shinobi, go to the options and select Shurikens, change it to zero and wait for it to change to the infinity symbol. You now have infinite shurikens for the entire game.

From Gamewinners, The 10 lives code in Super C for the NES is:
Right, Left, Down, Up, A, B at the title screen then press start for a 1 player game or select, start for a 2 player game.
To play as Akuma in Street Fighter The Movie for the Saturn you need to quickly press Up, B, DOWN, Z, Right, X, Left, Y at the character selection screen, if done correctly you will see a faint image of Akuma where your fighter's face is displayed. This works in all modes except "Movie Battle.

LOL, the Double Dragon 2 trick with 2 players I figured out by myself THE VERY FIRST TIME I EVER PLAYED IT. This was well before the trick was ever in a magazine. I figured, "hmmm, well if they can kill each other, then maybe I'll gain his lives." No, I'm not bullshitting...I don't know why that made sense to me at the time, but I wasn't even surprised when it worked. I think I'd seen a similar effect in other games before that, but I can't even recall which ones. I don't know why, but it was like I just KNEW. Anyway...
My favorite cheat is one I invented. Iv've posted it before, but whatever. Here it is for those of you who missed it. It works in Contra, Rush N' Attack, Contra 3: The Alien Wars, and a host of other games. Funny that those are Konami games, but they need not be. It works on a lot of games.
My favorite is in Rush N Attack. Set the game to two players. Get 2 rapid fire controllers, and place the players back to back. Place a C clamp over the B button for the rapid fire. Come back in two days. Both palyers will have the maximum amount of lives due to racking up points from the stupid enemies that run into your knife. Sure, Game Genie can just do this for you instantly, but back in the day we didn't have such luxuries. We had to make our own cheats and we liked it (up hill both ways in 20 feet of snow with no clothes)!

ok time for a real protip
in breath of fire 2, play till you get rand in your party.
go to an early part of the game where you can defeat all the enemies before they can attack you.
position yourself on the overworld map somwhere that you'll be blocked in at least two directions and put rand in the front of your party. put the button you have asigned for rand's special move on the map on autofire, rand will constantly roll into a ball and crash into one of the borders every 2 or 3 times you will encounter an enemy. have your attack on autofire as well and you can rake in some serious experience and rare drop items!
leaving the game on over night like this in one of the earlier areas will net you not only exp and gold, but the enemies near the early towns will ocationaly drop powerfood.
the trick can be done nearly anywhere, but is only really effective if you can defeat the monsters without taking damage..as you would eventually die. a great way to max out your charecters in this fairly tough game.

The 2 tricks that I discovered:
Fester's Quest:
Beat Bosses Instantly
You must have a key to do this trick. Once you reach a boss, press start and select the key. From the middle of the screen, walk left and downward, rapidly press 'A'. It will say ''Thing gives you Invisible Potion". Press start and you'll be at a scrambled screen. Wait a moment and you'll be at the staircase for the next area. Just DO NOT do this on the final boss, or the game will freeze.
Rygar:
Warp to Ligar
While fighting Belzar at the end of Lapis (Cloud Land w/ Robots), stand to the left of the door and face left. Now let Belzar throw a beam at you. If you did it correctly, you will fall back out the door, into a scrambled area and die. Press start and you'll start at Ligar.

PROTIP: Try getting practice with all the weapons in the Genesis version of Atomic Runner. Some are much slower than others, but the various item and weapon icons are probably your biggest source of points. Pick 'em up and get those extra lives!
Also, I wish more Shinobi games had Shadow Dancer's (Genesis) Non Shuriken mode.

Thanks for the Shinobi tip, that'll come in handy!
In Final Fantasy III (VI) for the SNES, you can easily kill almost anything by casting invisibility on the enemy (which makes him invulnerable to physical attacks but quite vulnerable to magic) Then cast X-Zone. Quite nice with the Gem Box relic.
In Zelda II for the NES, after you defeat a palace boss if your experience points are close enough for your current next up, you should go back through the palace and defeat enemies and level up before putting the crystal in the statue at the end. That way you'll gain more experience points from the bonus at the end of the palace- giving you two levels instead of one the bonus would give you.

Some tips on Blizzard games:
In Starcraft for the PC or consules, the best method to making money is to have 1 gatherer for each mineral field and an extra 1 for every 3 fields you have. As for gas, if it's nearby send only 3 to gather from it, and for ever 4 spaces away send an extra unit to get the gas.
In Warcraft 2, the computers are stupid. Building walls on the outskirts of your base is very important because the enemies don't have the AI to attack the walls to get through. This buys plenty of time to build an offensive air army or land forces to bust through and counter attack.
For Diablo 2 expansion there's a glitch that you can do for leveling faster than others. Get rushed to act 5 and have someone that hasn't done the Baal quest to complete it while you're in town and in a party. Get rushed again in Nightmare difficutly and do the same Baal glitch to Hell difficulty. Now get rushed to act 2 and go down into the desert areas and passage ways with a high level party and have them clear out everything infront of you and you'll get experience from it that can get you up to level 60 or so in under 2hrs including the rushed times.
Playing Black Thorne, there are passageways behind the waterfalls. :P
Lost Vikings were never lost in either game, they were just trying to find food. :-P

Super Smash Bros. fun (N64):
-Yoshi's stage has an extra cloud to the far right following the first cloud. Use this to your advantage, as tis cloud can only be seen if you actually land on it.
-Go to item-switch in the versus options menu and turn-off all itams except for the heart containers. then, select your character(s) and go to hyrule. All of the containers, such as capsules or barrels, will now be explosives!!!
-In the pokemon stage, wait for chansey to appear. If you rush derectly into her(him?!?) without inflicting damage, you'll automatically recover 5% of your health.

Here's one I made up when I was like 6. In Midnight Magic (A Pinball game for the Atari 2600) you begin by pulling the ball release knob just below the second line and let it go.... then immediately you pull the pinball pattles up (by pressing down on the Atari joystick). If you were at the right spot at the ball release, the ball should hit the 5 colored squares to get you to level 2 without you having to do anything! Once in level 2 you keep on holding the pattles up and the same thing will happen bringing you to Lv 3....4.... and finally 5 where everything is worth 5X the point value. I once taped the Atari joystick knob down and let this loop run for about 2 days. When I came back the screen was flashing white and the score read 999999999.....
I wonder if anyone knows about this one !

If there was something really hard, I'd let myself get hit and then make a run for it!
And, some random secrets:
For Super Mario RPG (from Gamefaqs, I did this once)
Many who search for all of the Hidden Treasure Boxes are stumped by the one in the Mushroom Kingdom Castle.
Ordinarily, you can find any hidden Treasure box at multiple points in the game. The one in Mushroom castle, however, has only 1 oppurtunity, and that is at the beginning of the game. On your first visit to the castle, be sure to jump on Toad's head and ride him to where the door is. You can now jump onto the ledge right above the door and find a Treasure box that can't be found at any other point in the game.

In Street Fighter 2 The World Warrior, you can often make the computer opponent jump at you by doing low forward (MK) kicks at a distance.
In Legend of Zelda for the NES, if you exit and re-enter the first labyrinth, the locked door at the top will be open.
In Bionic Commando for the NES, you need the right communicator in each stage to open doors or get information. Here's a guide to help you-
Area 1 Red
Area 2 Green
Area 3 Green
Area 4 Red
Area 5 Red
Area 6 Green
Area 7 Blue

Remember the "Bomb Arrow" trick in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening? Equip the Bombs and Arrows at the same time, then hit A and B simultaneously to fire an arrow that will explode when it hits its target.
What you may not know is the effect of the Bomb Arrow on Master Stalfos in the fifth dungeon. Normally once you knock him down, you only have enough time to drop one bomb on him. But if you repeatedly fire Bomb Arrows at him while he's down, you can actually defeat him long before you're supposed to be able to! I never explored this thoroughly as it seems to break the game: Master Stalfos will only drop a small key instead of the Hookshot, and the boss music will keep playing once you walk out of the room.

Mega Man 3 (NES): Get an object (a stool works well) to hold down right on the second controller. You'll be able to super jump and walk in certain pits and lose all your life energy... but you'll still be alive so long as you don't touch spikes. Note that this trick should be turned off at certain times as normal jumps are needed to avoid hitting spikes. When Mega Man has no energy, he also cannot fire so you'll have to use a special weapon on Rush in order to damage bosses.

An even better code for Metroid looks like this:
NARPAS SWORD0
000000 000000
This will make you invincible, give you morph ball, bombs, infinite missles, screw attack and (I think) the ice beam. This works in the Metroid: Zero Mission version as well.
In Link's Awakening (certain copies), approach the edge of the screen just before moving to the next screen. Then press the direction to advance to the next screen while pressing select for the map. If you have a version of the game with this glitch, your Link will be in the next screen over in the same spot as the previous screen. (Warning: may leave you stranded for numerous reasons including being stuck in water without flippers, stuck without the proper item, stuck in an empty room with no exit, etc.)
