Anybody read this book by Chris Kohler? It's an incredibly good read, and I couldn't put it down. He really goes into how Japanese culture has permeated America and the world in a lot of ways. Though much of it is due to manga and anime, videogames were the big'un. It has a lot of great quotes from interviews with the great designers out there, like, of course, Miyamoto.

Anyway, I was pretty shocked when he mentioned something I did. I didn't get credit for it in the book, but that's cool, I don't really care.

Back around the end of '03 I submitted to the Lost Levels the sales sheet/press kit pamphlet thingy I had that contains pics of the box of the US version of Final Fantasy II (the Famicom one that never came out here). As far as I know, I have the only existing copy of this. Here's the link, if you never saw it (see the second topic on the page labelled "Back in the Box!"):

On page 224 of the Chris's book (it's a section that discusses how the Final Fantasy series changed things), it was mentioned. Pretty cool I got a mention in a history book...in a strange kind of way. LOL

I know, it's not really significant, but I thought some of you may get a kick out of that, heh heh.

I read it, and liked it. His chapter on game stores in Japan is particularly helpful if you plan on GOING to Japan, as he lists pretty much the best ones in a few of the major cities.

I read it and thought it was a great read. Kohler does an excellent job of not being some sort of "I know japan" elitist, and at the same time giving great information.

If anyone has the chance, I highly reccomend picking it up.
